Jordan, how can you defend having these sites less than 200 metres from schools and daycares??? How did 10 of 17 sites end up being basically right beside schools and daycares in the first place? How can anyone defend it?
What I find infuriating is that most commentators, like Jordan, pretend as if this is about shutting down safe injection sites entirely. They conveniently forget to mention that it is only applicable to sites within 200 m of a school or daycare - something that I was shocked to learn wasn’t the case in the first place. And David and Kory totally let her off the hook on that one.
@@goldenyogis It infuriates me that we spend tax dollars on this when we already ration healthcare. I say help the people who genuinely want to get clean and leave the rest to fend for themselves. Then we can either save tax dollars being wasted on this or transfer that money to primary care.
Jordan's outline of Canada's immigration system was superb. Yes, the system is very complex, but it helps greatly to begin discussion with a clear picture of the main elements of the system, how they interact and how they affect the economy and society.
Been waiting all day to hear Kory eviscerate whatever the hell Frank Graves was on about last week. 🥃 I hope he doesn’t disappoint! 😂 Update: disappointed 😂
I completely agree with you all that the issue with immigration is based on housing and not nativism, but with one caviat. It did not come up in the conversation, but I can't help but think that some of the changing views on immigration have to do with the pro Hamas protests that we have been seeing in major cities from coast to coast.
The Hub had a great discussion about whether Trudeau is staying or going. Sean Spear's belief is Trudeau is leaving which Hurley confirmed ( 35min.into program) is an opinion gathering a lot attention. We shall see.
The foreign student / uber eats scam scenario is happening all over Trudeau's riding. I know. I was displaced from there a few years ago by a new landlord, part of the wave of well-heeled students and those serving them caused on the southwest corner of Papineau (Park Ex). That is ground zero of Canada's housing crisis.
Employment/unemployment is also solved through EI reform, which no federal government has had the stomach to really take on. The most recent attempt, courtesy of the Harper government, was immediately undone by the Trudeau government.
Younger people aren’t having children because they can barely afford housing and groceries much less the added cost of daycare which is like second mortgage.
I never thought I would actually hear a person with money, with a high level of consumption admit that they want the carbon tax gone because it's costing them too much. I always knew that the carbon tax actually benefits those who are consuming the least and making the least amount of money. And yet Cory you had the guts to admit that you don't want to pay your fair share for your high level of consumption and you don't want to pay your fair share to help us with climate change. OMG I never thought I'd hear it. Thank you for being honest.
Nothing screams hypocrisy quite like accusing your opponent of being a threat to democracy by being a threat to democracy and installing unelected candidates via a mini coup. 😂

she was "installed" after receiving 4567 delegate votes at the DNC, just like Trump was "installed" after receiving 2388 delegate votes at the RNC. Every person who voted for Biden voted for Harris as their campaign was registered as a split ticket from day one. Whether a candidate is "elected" also doesn't matter, like at all. The UK has a perfectly functional democracy and largely lets MPs choose their party leader, it's been the same in Canada for most of our history.
Did Jordan really just say that we need mass immigration so that people like her can benefit from more social programs? Putting aside your thoughts on the justification itself, that might be the worst possible way she could've possibly framed it lol
I don't know how that's how you read what she said. What I think Jordan meant (I am almost certain, because its frankly true) is that as Canada's population is declining, in 30 years there will not be enough people left in the country generating enough taxable revenue to fund the CPP, EI, and Healthcare systems for her generation when they retire;; hence we need immigrants to keep our economy from shrinking with the natural born population.
@@conwaysmith9167 That's probably more or less what she meant. I just find it funny how she framed that argument around her wanting to personally benefit from social programs off the back of mass immigration. It's such a horrendous way to frame it.
okay, but how? Release ads enticing women to undergo nine months worth of drastic health changes, 24-48 hours of grueling agony, and then spend 18+ years struggling to afford additional mouths to feed when most young people are already struggling to provide for themselves? Most people under 30 in the county don't have a realistic chance of ever owning a home; it doesn't make sense for them to willingly raise another generation in their parent's basement because Doug (53 from Red Deer) doesn't like the people working the Tim's drive-thru having an accent.
@Tomyum19 because housing, groceries, and education were simultaneously affordable 50 years ago. One person working a regular job could support a family of four; one person who is 25 today likely cannot afford all of those things for themself, even with support from middle-income parents. Are you high? Also - having 10 kids 50 years ago wasn't easy, it wasn't easy 100 years ago; through religious and social pressure, and the illegality of contraception people didn't have a choice.
@Tomyum19 as yes, because having an airfryer and iPhone while still living with your parents or in a two-bedroom $2400/month apartment at 28 provides sufficient security to start a family. You're a genius man, if these kids in their twenties just avoided UberEats they could afford the additional $17,000 a year per child. If they didn't go on vacations, they could afford the additional $17,00 a year per child. Also, just to help you out: this isn't a "people like you" situation. I do not face the issues most of my generation face. But I understand that most people probably won't receive $70,000 in scholarship funding to avoid student debt, don't want to move to rural Newfoundland where housing is still relatively affordable, and won't immediately find and enter a high-paying job after graduation. People in the 60's, for reference, also didn't want to have a bunch of kids. Happy that you've enjoyed the experience but the steep decline in birthrates after the legalization of contraception and abortion clearly indicates people generally don't like having massive families when given the choice; which is what this boils down to. No one wants to raise their kids in their parent's basement, or when they're $60k in student debt, or when they're living on $40k a year, $29k of which goes to rent. This might be a good moment for you to reflect on how out of touch you are, because you're sounding like a "them darn kids" kinda guy.

@Tomyum19 Maybe because years ago parents fed their kids and paid for their kid's expenses. Now taxpayers with no kids have to help pay for them.
