Yes sir. Drumming gave me tinnitus, tendonitis, carpal tunnel and ulnar nerve surgeries on both hands and elbows. I’m 64 now and have arthritis in every joint. Fair statement that drumming is a full contact sport. Be careful friends and stay healthy. And great job George.
Same, add to that almost 15,000 hours of jet helicopter in flight noise, 11 motorcycles and 3 decades of drums. I sleep with hand braces on. 67 years old. But I’d do it again….
Hold the stick between the thumb & middle finger not the index finger. Dave Weckl said his career was saved cause he switched to this. More natural bounce with this grip. I got rid of tension in the hand when I switched. I still use the old way for a couple of things but not much.
71 here drumming 50+ yrs. Arthritis hands , knees etc.. Still drumming w/ bands It’s some of the best therapy. Crossovers are like mini double punches, like ghost boxing, particularly on the cymbals. George does very well. All four limbs are in motion because of the 5th limb, the head. Tweaking the brain with such rapidity is better than two Xtra Large coffees . Or whatever lifts your skirt.
I've always said that Bonham's sound and touch are the most evasive to recreate. I've never heard anyone come close. I can honestly say this isn't close. This is right on top of. More than anything I'm in awe.
Freezing in admiration. There are no words. The beat that makes the music complete. Incredible. This is a professional and, most importantly, free lesson for all those who are interested in Rhythm areas. Let's donate for this wonderful work. Thank you, George
I'm blown away AGAIN! It's like i'm watching what Bonham would have put out if he was still alive or I have unlocked hidden solo's.. Amazing, thank you!
George, I had no idea you were struggling with tinnitus and tendonitis. This video is great and helpful for us drummers. You are resilient, thank you for being vulnerable and giving us tips on how to improve drummers' health. Power and love to you!
@@BONHAMOLOGYhey George I'm curious are your bottom heads tighter or lower than the top? Or do you mix n match? Currently I've found I have 1 of 3 toms where the bottom head is lower. It just seems to work
Sorry guys, my english is bad, I think in portuguese, and I wrote in portuguese. I have Tourette syndrome, and I want to make a video playing drums, but wen I play in front of the camera is so dificult! Im working on this, ans I hope to show my talent for you! By the way, great job George, I love your amazing job! God bless you!
All I can say is that such a cool, effortless, shake your money maker groove. Terry from Bonzoleum, yourself and Brian Tichy have the best interpretations of Bonham’s style, along with his son Jason. Two thumbs up👍👍 Cheers from Fiji👊🤙🤘😎🇫🇯
All I can say is absolutely amazing.I've been a bonzo fan for forty years And there ain't no one that can touch you. Absolutely amazing thank you so much.
Brother sorry for the health issues but my friend i need to say that you entire video is packed full of amazing drum shops in Dynamics and groove and if you are obviously trying to you know kind of give it a Bonzo spin brother you have nailed it and I mean nailed it well and the tone and tuning of your kit is great.
Thank you for posting this. I have had numerous cervical and lumbar surgeries in the past 1.5 years and still have neuropathy in both arms and legs. I want to get back to playing, and this workout is now one I plan to use! Great post!!
George I’m so glad you mention those semi yet very irritating health problems because every time Iv shown or sent one of you videos to someone over the years I always mention when John Bonham was playing this solo or live show he was in his early to mid twenties George is not I’v always taken that into consideration over the last 10 years of all your videos. This is the best drumming exhibition Iv ever seen.
The drums sound perfect to me. I’m always super picky about getting my rack tom right where I want it. Between the room, mics, tuning, and your technique and feel - you nailed it!🤘
George, excellent and inspiring playing, you are amazing! I am 69, playing since 5th grade. I so much appreciate you, your comments and insights as well as all of your followers. Your playing is over the top!
In 1981 I auditioned for a band & they asked me who's the greatest rock drummer & I said John Bonham. A girlfriend of the leader of the band said "No, Neil Peart is the greatest rock drummer!". I didn't get the job! THANK GOD! ✌️😁👍
As usual ALLLLLLL of us fellow drummers appreciate your talents and AND LESSONS that you share with us!!! ALLLL for FREE!!! SORRY ABOUT YOUR health YOU ARE A LEGEND AND INSPIRATION TO YOUR FANS!!! THANKS 😊BROTHER 🥁 DRUMMER!!!
Resistance bands helped me loosen up my issue with tendonitis. I know this is a just UA-cam comment, but I highly recommend getting the ones with handles and putting it around a doorknob and figuring out all the basic exercises it can simulate. Bench press, arm curls etc. can be a great stretch. PT often will utilize them. Swimming as well. Heard you throw in that Roy Haynes stuff on the rim. slick!
I always used protection during rehearsals. It's all the concerts I've been to where I would stand by the PA without earplugs that gave me constant ringing.
Starting out with the live outro of Dazed and Confused from TSRTS - that section of that version doesn't get talk about enough --- it's totally killer -- on the drums, bass and the guitar soloing is out of this world. Unique for sure... sorry about tinnitus, George.😊
Hello George, I often think about the many pioneers in drumming that passed at young age and wonder what influence would they have upon the music today. I regard those past and present artists that have had an impact upon drumming as your peers. Although, I as a drummer cannot do what you do, I appreciate beyond words how a piece like this has the ability to bring us in and carry us along. This happening as you are developing the piece. Yes I hear Art Blakey. I hear Elvin. I hear Tony. I feel groove and time. Purdie has the same ability to play musically for 30 minutes, and the rhythms are methodical and soothing. Thank you for your influence and impact upon drumming.
Been a professional touring and recording drummer for 30 years and my unsolicited advice is 1) wear hearing protection every single time you play (unless you’re on a pad). In my rehearsal room I love the Vic firth cans and on stage I use molded in-ear monitors. Yes they are expensive but if touring is your job it’ll save your life. 2) learn to enjoy warming up as part of practice and as part of your backstage pre-show routine 3) learn to enjoy working out, both a bit of cardio and a bit of resistance training. Good luck out there drummers and thanks for the content George you sound great
You are amazing, what stamina you are one of best I have ever heard I wish I could talk to you about your ailments I may be able to help you just by sharing some knowledge and information with you that you might not be aware of !!!!!
I hear you George (no pun intended)! I’ve lost most of my hearing in my right ear because I always set my amp up to my drummer’s left like Pagey. I’d be down on my knee twiddling with my pedals at soundcheck and *crack* he’s whaling on that snare! F**ked me up for life. Glad you’re addressing the issue.
Absolutely love this! You have the Bonham "feel" and it sounds great! Reminds me of many live bootleg Moby Dick solos I've heard for over 40 years. Really enjoy your videos. THX!
Maybe I'm late on the observation, but I saw/heard Terry finally mic'd up his drums, George. They don't sound like doo doo no more in his videos. Help him tune that snare, though 😆
Brilliant- such a brilliant demonstration of fabulous Bonham / Terry work out. You seem so relaxed as you do it. The build up and fluency is fantastic. Agree absolutely with your health comments. Sorry to hear you have tinnitus and some tendinitis. I too have tinnitus from playing without protection when younger and also through working in steel and paper mills. Also have some arthritis in the base of my left thumb meaning I have to change grips during a gig. Walking and weight absolutely. I’m retired from my day job and walk our border collies up the of back lanes some of which are steep ! - it’s very hilly here. It’s not just playing - it’s carrying the gear and setting up too ! Thanks again George - a brilliant video !!! 🥁👍🏼🥁
I’m sure it’s covered in one of your other videos but I’d love to see a lesson on some of the more complex parts. Like 8:15ish (can’t figure out what you’re doing with your left hand) and 9:45ish. I can play the basic engine but can’t get too complex with it.
Good timing for this as I recently had surgery on my right collar bone (an old injury reared its ugly head). I just started today with my practice pad and hope to be back behind the kit soon getting back in to gig shape.
Sto seguendo i tuoi video e devo farti i complimenti. Aldilà della bellezza del SOLO , bisogna sottolineare il SUONO . Right. People commonly talk about his power but it really about dynamics, endurance and pulling sounds out of the drum kit.
