At least Mike is willing to change in the end. And that's all that matters. And Mc is right to set boundaries and have her family have a relationship with her kids on her terms.

Sarah and Tom did the right thing when they decided to distance themselves from her parents and her brother only to allow both the parents and brother to visit Emily and Ethan once they are older.

You had every right to drop your family, for years they ignored you ,and a second chance is out of the question. Family is not just blood,it is being wanted and loved.

And yet, no one ever does but that´s ok! Loving one kid more than the others doesn´t automatically lead to you neglecting and favoring the kid you love more. Neglect and favoritism is allways a choice, you can choose to give all your kids equal attention and affection because in the end that is what you signed up for when choosing to have kids. There is ALLWAYS going to be a kid you prefere over the others, just like every kid has a favorite parent we NEED to destigmatise this!

I tell my parents that the reason why Mark turned into a screw up is because of spoiling him to the point he went into this life of Indulgence and aimless life goals. I mean every kid should have a back plan for a career incase it doesn't work or will take time to achieve.

Now, this is what I mean when I say someone really needs to let it out. I know people aren't supposed to yell at people even when their frustrated, but sometimes you need to get dramatic to be heard.

I'm with Sarah. Here you have a successful daughter. Living her best life. Yet, her parents are enabling their favorite child's behavior and letting him ruin the family. Here parents are so blind that they cannot tell right or wrong.

Let me tell you one thing about The Golden child is that they always fall on their faces they wind up not doing good or they turn into junkies so if you have one in your family don't bother with it don't bother your parents just take care of yourself prioritize yourself and we'll be in go to school get a job do your good life and just sit back and watch them crumble

This is why parents who have more than one child should never play favorites because the outcome in later years never ends well. Siblings will begin to resent each other or worse do things to make the other look bad or much worse eliminate the favorite sibling because the others are sick & tired of mommy & daddy giving golden child all their attention. Or when mom & dad get to the point where they can't look after themselves their other neglected children will want nothing to do with them. I don't blame Sarah I would be pissed too as well as cut my family off for neglecting me over my sibling for years.

just let it all out, really what took her so long, even if they are her parents they needed a wake up call there's a right way and a wrong way to treat your children
no she was right to put up boundaries for her kids.

I may be the only one, but I’m definitely the type of person who very much doesn’t believe the whole “better late than never” ideology. I don’t care if you changed your ways. That doesn’t take away all the trauma that happened before. I’m not a forgiving person either so I guess that reinforces that resolve more. You can’t just give the whole “we’ve changed, we’re not the same people we were before” bullcrap, because I’m not having any of that. Stuff like that should have never happened in the first place and that’s what irks me so much. You all can call me a negative person, it’ll just help me realize how blind a lot of people are by forgiving people who cause you this much trauma. There’s no room in my heart for forgiveness and I had to learn that the hard way. There’s no room in my heart for forgiveness, especially for situations like this.

At any rate, TERRIFIC story with excellent narration! 👍👍

I would say that Sarah had every damn right to cut off her parents and her brother you know. I mean look at me, I had to cut out my own former mother from my life. Not only that but even my older sister wants nothing to do with our former old bag and and even our dad doesn't want nothing to do with her either.

I'm pretty sure that Sarah parents got criticize and scolded them for not having any common sense to treated them with love and care equally. So i guess they didn't live a comfortable life around the neighbors since after give them cold stares to avoid and distance from them including their families and relatives who they apologize to Sarah for their excusable behavior and terrible attitudes who allowed to spoiled mike to do anything besides discipline him. 🤦🏽‍♀️what an embarrassing to brought shame to the family name.

I think you did the right thing by cutting your parents and brother out of your children's lives because you don't want them to go through what you went through. The best decision you could have made is to not let a toxic relationship negatively affect your children so they can have a good and healthy childhood. Her parents have been dishonest with her her entire life and have given all their attention to her brother while she had to work hard to get their approval, only to disappoint her even more. Children should not be treated differently from each other by their parents and every child deserves to be valued in the family and these people were judging them based on their gender and their preferences, they should be ashamed of themselves for even being parents. So in the end, not only are they no longer part of their daughter's life, which they don't deserve, but they also have the opportunity to attend their grandchildren's, and they will regret it for the rest of their lives, filled with remorse. 😡😠😤

If my parents want to coddle my sibling & give him everything he wants I'm not going to bust my ass trying to fight for my parents affections. I'll just focus on me quite frankly I'll be the one getting away with stuff & doing my own thing just don't expect me to help the family out.

If Mike wants to be a successful musician, he has to go into rehab, go to music school, then try perhaps at first with a band, but put some discipline in his life.
As for OP's parents, they shouldn't show favoritism towards one of the twins; that breeds resentment.

The "golden child" wasn't so golden after all. I don't mean that to be unkind, but in most of these stories in which favoritism is the subject, the so-called favorite is the one who ends up not being successful.
