RIP Sleepy Labeef, a Rockabilly legend and gentle giant! I was lucky enough to meet him several times years ago at a local record store (The Rockpile) and was taken back by his enormous stature yet kind voice...He told me stories of life on the road and how he had shared the stage with some major talent and as a backing musician for many as well, Bonnie Raitt comes to mind. We reminisced for awhile each time we met until it was time for one of us to meander on....I’ll always remember his kind words, stature, massive hands, deep voice and the big ole Caddy he crossed the country in countless times.....rest easy Tom!

I saw Sleepy in Somerville. Johnny D's a few years ago. We got there early and Sleepy was just standing there alone. We went up to him slowly and he said come over here fellas I'm going to tell you about the old days. He sure did. We talked to him for a half hour and I could have listened for hours. I had so many questions, but I kept it to a few and let him tell us about the old days. He told us he knew Elvis personally and also Johnny Cash. He told us he knew 300 songs and maybe more. He said I was never a rich man but I did okay. He said he was rich with pride and honor when he saw the crowd cheering for him every night .When he had to leave to go get ready for the show ,he said tell my story to everyone you want and God Bless my friends. So I just wanted to share. He was such a kind man. So glad I finally got the chance to meet him. I've been seeing him since 1977 and didn't miss many shows. He lived in Boston for some time back in the day.

First heard this tremendous talent many years ago at the Hillbilly Ranch on the edge of Boston's infamous Combat Zone in the late 70's and had an opportunity to hear a few more time in some very intimate setting's around Mass. suburbs. America has lost a gentle giant and a great man, R.I.P. Sleepy!

Only had the good fortune of meeting SLB once at the Zoo bar in Lincoln, NE around 1985. He was great on stage, of course, but what i will never forget is when he left the stage for a break and pushed through the crowd, he extended his hand to me and friend Mike, with a great, happy smile, and said "Hi, I am Sleepy LaBeef, glad to meet you!" A real simple honest man of great talent and little ego. RIP Sleepy.

    Tore Up Over You
Ever since you been gone I just cried the whole night long
Since the day you said goodbye left me sore, no lie, no lie
Tore up over you, and I just can't find my way.
Tore up! Yeah, yeah, yeah, tore up.
Woh-oh-oh tore up! Yeah, yeah, yeah, tore up.
Tore up over you, and I just can't find my way.
Never loved me like ya told me so if you did how could you go?
It was you, not me, that left and went away with someone else
Tore up over you, and I just can't find my way.
Tore up! Yeah, yeah, yeah, tore up.
Woh-oh-oh tore up! Yeah, yeah, yeah, tore up.
Tore up over you, and I just can't find my way.
Tell me what can I do to make to come back and stay?
Tore up over you, and I just can't find my way.
Tore up! Yeah, yeah, yeah, tore up.
Woh-oh-oh tore up! Yeah, yeah, yeah, tore up.
Tore up over you, and I just can't find my way
    I ain't got no home
    No place to roam
    I ain't got a home
    No place to roam
    I'm a lonely boy
    I ain't got a home
    I ain't got no sister
    I ain't got a brother
    I ain't got a father
    Not even a mother
    I'm a lonely boy
    I ain't got a home
    Woo-woo-woo-woo-woo-woo-woo-woo
    Well, I got a voice
    And I love to sing
I can sing like a bird
And I can sing like a frog
    I'm a lonely boy
    I ain't got a home
    I ain't got a girl
    I ain't got a son
    I ain't got no kin
    I ain't got no one
    I'm a lonely frog
    I ain't got a home
    Woo-woo-woo-woo-woo-woo-woo-woo
    Madam, take me in
    Let me be your friend
    Won't you take me in
    Let me be your friend
    I'm a lonely boy
    I ain't got a home
    Woo-woo-woo-woo-woo-woo-woo-woo
    Love is a burnin' thing
And it makes a fiery ring
    Bound by wild desire
I fell into a ring of fire
I fell into a burnin' ring of fire
    I went down, down, down
    And the flames went higher
    And it burns, burns, burns
The ring of fire, the ring of fire
I fell into a burnin' ring of fire
    I went down, down, down
    And the flames went higher
    And it burns, burns, burns
The ring of fire, the ring of fire
The taste of love is sweet
    When hearts like ours meet
I fell for you like a child
Oh, but the fire went wild
I fell into a burnin' ring of fire
    I went down, down, down
    And the flames went higher
    And it burns, burns, burns
The ring of fire, the ring of fire
I fell into a burnin' ring of fire
    I went down, down, down
    And the flames went higher
    And it burns, burns, burns
The ring of fire, the ring of fire
    The ring of fire...
    And it burns, burns, burns
The ring of fire, the ring of fire
    The ring of fire...
