    On the plus side, it's a very pleasing motif, but yeah the main theme gets overused. Also I think the criticism about the girl is valid, yet this remains my favorite Christmas film to date. Happy to see one of my favorite UA-camrs make a video about it.

    Genuine issue with this movie:
    So it’s implied the depressed looking kid is this way and is skeptical of Santa because he’s very poor. He has shitty pajamas and lives in a small disheveled house on the outskirts of town.
    So... was Santa NOT giving this guy presents? Why did Santa give him less presents or no presents? Because he was POOR?
    The movie creates this rift basically to answer why poor kids get less presents... because they don’t believe hard enough. And they don’t believe hard enough because... their parents can’t afford to buy them gifts. Kind of paradoxical and pretty harmful.

      The Force theme gets maybe half as many utterances per Star Wars movie at best, and people seem to remember that one alright. :P Alan Silvestri has a habit of really enthusiastically hammering in his themes, if he has one he's really proud of. Back to the Future, Predator, The Abyss, The Avengers, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Stuart Little, and many others he's scored definitely stick in your head for that reason, and I adore him for that sometimes.

      I think the problem is mainly that a leitmotif should be a core idea that is developed. The force theme in a New Hope is also used A LOT. (I should know, I played the whole score in concerts a few times).
      The instrumentation, dynamic and often harmonics vary heavily depending on the scene though, not making it repetitive at least in that movie.
      Here there are about three very similar versions that are completely interchangeable. Shame to see

      @moviemaestro800 4 роки тому +4

      @@the_bottomfragger Silvestri has a habit of doing that, if he really appreciates a theme he wrote. That's why they're so memorable, but can sound a little repetitive when just listening to his scores on albums. That said, I'd be lying if I didn't enjoy his music all the same. There is good reason for many of his scores also being popular for concerts, like his music for The Avengers, The Abyss, Back to the Future, Predator, or Forrest Gump.

    I love this movie for all the symbolism you can draw out of it. I personally love the theory that it could be based on Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol', where the ghost represents the ghost of Christmas past, the conductor the ghost of Christmas present and Santa the ghost of Christmas future. Quite an interesting parallel when you look into it - I'd recommend looking the theory up for more details.

      That kind of thing is usually the fault of the producer or the director. Often when people cast an actor, it is because they want the actor to give a similar performance to one they've given before. It's a safe and easy way to cast actors, but it doesn't allow them to use their range. Still, you can't blame the actor for doing exactly what they're told. That's what they're paid to do.

      Yeah I don't get the real world message. Do they want kids to believe that Santa is real? Are they trying to get kids to believe in supernatural stuff so they are more vulnerable to religious indoctrination? How is any of this good?

      Amphiuma III you are insufferable. It’s more about instilling childlike optimism than it is indoctrination

    Say what you want about the main theme, but this soundtrack is gorgeous

    At least they didn't try to split the children's book into three epic movies like a certain other example.
