MTB Derbyshire: Hope Valley in Storm Isha

- It's winter 2023/24 and yet another storm batters the land....
This one is called Isha, a lovely sounding name but it brought havoc to many parts of the UK. To be fair we got off relatively lightly in this part of the country. Don't get me wrong, it was a bit rough out there and later on in the evening it took a turn for the worse but overall I have been out on the bike in rougher weather.
Joining me on this ride was Paul who I have known for years but we haven't been on a ride for ages. We finally managed to get out there and though it was fairly short, we had a great ride. Loads of laughs and surprisingly for once it wasn't me hitting the deck this time. Paul experiencing a couple of minor incidents on this one, only suffering some minor dents to his pride.
Both of us riding the hardtails. We certainly found plenty to test the lack of rear travel in the stunning Hope Valley. My Ragley is really impressing me with how it rides. It is such a fun little hooligan and it almost seems like the rowdier the trail gets the more it rewards you. Just brilliant, loving it!
Enjoy the ride!

You do indeed need a dropper. These cold spells weve had in early Jan have highlighted that, a few night rides = frozen dropper and boy does it make the trails hard work, nice vid enjoy 2024 👍
Cheers matey! Yes without a dropper post riding is so much more awkward 🤣. I fitted the one from my Cotic....luckily it's the same diameter.
Great video, weather sounded as brutal as the climb out of Jagger's clough! 😂 Seems like a pretty sweet bike you've got there👌
The bike is a proper bit of kit for silly money. I really hate the Jagger's climb...could you tell? 🤣🤣🤣
Great video Jonathan looked a bit sloppy but we’ve had a lot of rain, perhaps 12 speed may help on jaggers climb! Good to see Paul out and enjoying the ride. Not a full susser or e-bike in sight !! Love it!!
Well 10 and 11 speed doesn't work. So maybe 🤔 🤣🤣🤣
I honestly can't get enough of my hardtail, so can understand where you're coming from mate, glad you're enjoying it. Love that descent down to where that ice was. Good stuff pal.
Really loving the HT. That descent is a fun and fast one for sure. Cheers Phil 👍
Great vid dude 🎉
Cheers Mr Diz
Awesome vid mate! Conditions looked tough! Glad you’re enjoying the ragley! 👍🤙
Absolutely loving it mate 😁
Great video mate, won't be saying glad your enjoying the Ragley as know just how good they are myself, instead, knew you would love it!
That ride brings back frozen memeories for me ❄️ Think that is still the coldest I have been when out on the bikes, even if I did have to convince you to still come! Keep the HT content coming mate 😊
No fear of there not being more HT content. Really enjoying it at the moment 😎👍. I know it was the coldest I've ever been on a bike without a doubt....how I've still got all my fingers and toes I'm not sure 😄
@@MTB_Derbyshire 😂 I know my back was frozen solid at one point! I did chuckle when I saw the snow in this video 😂
@ElectricMountainBiker I didn't chuckle when I saw the sheet of ice in front of me on that last descent I can tell you. 🤣
@@MTB_Derbyshire 😂 fair point
Great vid Jonathan, conditions looked a tad worse than last time 🤣i was on the hardtail last time, you certainly notice the difference haha, you seem to loving the new hardtail anyway, i bet you're glad you got one now 😀👍
A little slippy 🤣 still ok great fun
Cracking video mate. You may have missed the worst of the storm but the trail conditions looked interesting for sure.
Hardtails rule 👍
Conditions certainly kept us on our toes 🤣. Fir once it wasn't me falling off though . Hurrah 😁 Thanks Jason!
@@MTB_Derbyshire It seemed to be keeping Paul on his @rse 😂
@Stopadoodledoo he had a couple of tumbles....
Nice one. I got a Hard Tail about 18 months ago and still enjoy riding it more than my Full Suss, but still don't understand why, it just feels 'more fun'
Ha, yep great fun aren't they. I think it's that they are more out of control .....ultimately that is fun and a little scarier. They're also lighter and as a result handle in a more responsive way. You can also feel the trail so you feel more of what's happening. They're my thoughts 🤣
Great videos I live in Derbyshire and didn’t know about them 👍do you put the routes on and sites cheers
Cheers mate glad you enjoyed it. I put most rides up on the Komoot app. It's free and if you follow people you can easily follow their routes 👍
