MTB Derbyshire: West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester Big Ride!

- Ventured out from Derbyshire to take on a big ride from West Yorkshire into Greater Manchester all in Christians (@ElectricMountainBiker) back yard.
Personally, I've never ridden in West Yorkshire, so this was always going to be something different. Christian lives this way, so he planned out a route and shared the GPX. Originally it came in at 28 miles and over 3,600 feet of climbing.
This was always going to be a tough nut. Now one thing I've noticed when riding in the north Yorkshire area is that distance is deceptive. This is because it's either very steep up, flat, or very steep down. there aren't many steady climbs or places to chill Marc (@HallMarc_Trails ) had an extra challenge.....he had only been on the turbo trainer a few sessions after hurting his wrist 6 weeks previously and was still recovering. Hats off mate you did really well. No sun attge end we were all ready. in fact we ended up cutting two more climbs and subsequent DHs.
A sign of the nature of this ride was the fact we set off about 9.30 am and I got back to the car about 5 pm. It is a group ride of course and we had plenty of stops, for laughs, faffs and cake. Time is never wasted.
There was nothing major technical on this ride, though here were a few sections of hike a bike, but the views at times were epic and well worth all the effort. There were also some sections where the exposure in the left was definitely knee trembling.
I for once wasn't the "crash bandicoot" of the group...I left those honours to Marc and Christian. Marc played out a very graceful pirouette before my eyes on an incredibly greasy and steep grassy descent. Christian however took a much more covert but potentially more damaging fall out of our sight (but thankfully not Marc's camera 🤣) Luckily the soft mud broke his fall.
I really hope this film captures the fun and laughs we had, after all that's what it's all about right?

Some great tough descents out there , Christian is lucky having it on his doorstep 👍
We ended up missing out some as we were knackered. Don't tell me ... ebikes are ace 😂. Yep it's a, great spot.
Great, great video of the day mate!! It had it all, monster climbs, wild swimming at points through that first stream, me taking an impromtu mud bath, Marc sliding in the mud, and yet somehow you never crashed 🤷🏻♂️🤣 We even had hike a bike up a rock face 👀
Climbs were a killer at times, but worth it for those views. A chance I am doing this again on Sunday with Lorna this time...
Was a top day, no crazy descents as such, much more of a get out and explore, whilst having a laugh along the way.
Marc still cracks me up with the slow downed bet I put hole in my bl#### shorts 🩳🤣🤣 More to get back and ride still yet.

A fantastic first ride back after my injury, I was worried how the wrist would hold up (with good reason) I was very cautious at times, I grew more confident as the day went, followed by a slipping out on the slippery grassy descent 😬 i knew there was a reason i hated wet grass 🤣 luckily i fell on the opposite side, other than that, it was a great test for my wrist and fitness, I really can’t complain, a top day out in the hills. Definitely a rest. To be honest we were all spent by the end. Great day, definitely one for the memory banks that one.
Nice vid. It's a cracking route round top of Chew and an awesome descent back down to the rez . Much more fun on an eeb though 😁Was good to see you at the caff. We got you all a pint in at Riverhead too but you never turned up 🍺😂

She's a hard task master 😂. This weather is absolutely awful. Really hoping changes come along soon.....but looks very unsettled for the foreseeable....
