@@Alidoir Non ho fatto un paragone, ho voluto solo far presente che i testi di alcune canzoni italiane vengono talvolta studiati a scuola (mio nipote ha studiato anche il testo di "Guerriero" di Mengoni, che tra l'altro e` molto bello...) L'effetto Maneskin sta permettendo anche ad altri artisiti italiani di farsi conoscere nel mondo ma non credo che uno youtuber straniero, di sua sponte, andrebbe a cercare una canzone di De Andre` o di Tenco.. vanno "guidati" .... As others have mentioned: With Sally, Vasco refers to himself. He has often said that he feels a strong feminine side within him, but when writing this song he felt it would not have been relatable to anyone if he sings " he's a man that doesn't want to fight anymore", so he wrote it about a woman, but it's him to a large part.
Fun fact: he wrote this song on vacation in St. Tropez, France. He was at a bar where he encountered (as he said) an incredible amount of incredibly beautiful women, falling in love with every single one. But, after chitchatting with everyone he decided to go home, and to detour the sexual energy he had accumulating that night into his guitar and the words of a song. The song was written in one session that night and it became a classic.

It was for friends but I also used this method of translating songs to better my english, learn new words... I was so lost into translating a song.. my english was scholastic and bad at it too.. i did as best as I could given the tools I had at the time. Hi there I am Elisa. That was my old account I had made ages ago when I moved from Italy to the US and i made a few translations of my favorite songs for my American friends. Ok, Sally is one of my favorite Italian songs. This is a story about a lonely girl that was framed as easy for any hug, any touch, any relationship. How a fragile girl suffered and missed childhood where things werent as hard. How she ends up walking around numb not giving a shit anymore. Then Vasco speaks of one shouldnt give up, how things can get better. Suddenly it all changed when she finds some hope. Walking around now she sees her surroundings. Life has hope for her now. (this song is about Vasco Himself tho, he used Sally as a "cover". He had a rough life. Drugs, party, then he grew up and changed his life around).
Vasco begun in early 80s and for Italian standards he was considered an outcast. He was a pioneer of a new genre, soul genre, rebellion genre which went rampant all the way to the 2000s in Italy. So much difference from the "canzonette" sung up to that point. Music til then was stiff, chaste, all about good love or sad love or family. Swipe under the rug generational pains vibe. He crashed those standards. Even tho he never was the most amazing vocalist (I tho love him and his voice), he became incredibly successful becasue how he was able to connect with a real pissed off and angry youth.
Another singer in his lines, that came out a bit later is Marco Masini. Masini tho was even madder, even angrier. An amazing voice and energy, a crazy need for change and speak up all the black shit happening int he world, from incest to drugs, from bad bad break ups to tll the music world to go FK themselves for their standards... Masini sadly never got the success he deserves. I did translate 2 of my favorite songs opf him in that old channel of mine, called Vaffanculo and Principessa. Translated would be Fuck You and Princess. Check them out :)

In a now distant interview, Vasco said that this song is about atypical females in their thirties, completely different from those who go to parties and clubs or go shopping and no longer try to attract the eyes of males. So you should listen to some old Ligabue's rock song ("Tra palco e realtà", I ragazzi sono in giro", Urlando contro il cielo"). A good reason is his amazing guitarist Fede Poggipollini.
