"Sally" is an absolute masterpiece... Everyone here in Italy knows it (sometimes, in Italy, the lyrics of some songs are studied at school, because some songs are authentic poem as songs by Fabrizio De Andre`, Luigi Tenco, Lucio Dalla, Francesco Guccini, Francesco De Gregori and many others) and many important italian singers made a cover of it... I suggest you to hear the version by Fiorella Mannoia

This splendid song is one of the most beautiful in the Italian music scene and beyond. In an interview Vasco Rossi says that she was born suddenly while he was on holiday in Saint-Tropez, France, on his manager's boat. One evening he went to a club full of beautiful women, but he couldn't go out with any of them. Frustrated and a little drunk he went back to the boat, picked up his guitar and thought of a 35 year old woman he knew who had had a lot of trouble in her life and he wrote this piece about her. In reality this moving song talks about himself, but also about all of us and the problems we have to face to move forward in life and in the end it gives us hope because it says that "...maybe life hasn't all been lost, maybe something he was saved, maybe it really wasn't all wrong after all...". When Vasco sings this song in his concerts many people cry because they identify with Sally and with the possibility of overcoming disappointments and difficulties. Greetings from Milan, Italy
This song is wonderful but when it is sung by a woman it takes on a very special meaning.... it breaks the heart, because you can feel the fear,, the lonlyness, the yearning and the bitterness....
This song has one of the best lyric line in Italian music (and let me say, poetry too)... "Perchè la vita è un brivido che vola via / è tutto un equilibrio sopra la follia".
"Forse davvero non è stato poi tutto sbagliato, forse era giusto così, forse ma forse, ma sì" - "Maybe it really wasn't all wrong, maybe it was right that way, maybe, but maybe, oh well, yes" - This part gets me every single time. No matter what mood I'm in, I got a little tear in my eye. This song is a masterpiece. I agree with you, the bass here is beautiful. Subwoofer at its best in the car for this one 🙂🎶
As others have mentioned: With Sally, Vasco refers to himself. He has often said that he feels a strong feminine side within him, but when writing this song he felt it would not have been relatable to anyone if he sings " he's a man that doesn't want to fight anymore", so he wrote it about a woman, but it's him to a large part. Fun fact: he wrote this song on vacation in St. Tropez, France. He was at a bar where he encountered (as he said) an incredible amount of incredibly beautiful women, falling in love with every single one. But, after chitchatting with everyone he decided to go home, and to detour the sexual energy he had accumulating that night into his guitar and the words of a song. The song was written in one session that night and it became a classic.
Grazie Blasco, grazie
This song "kills" me inside every single time I listen to it. I can't help crying my heart out since the very first time I listened to it! Vasco can touch some deep chords of the soul. Thank you for this video!
Now you know the meaning of the lyrics... So watch Sally in a live concert, you will enjoy it and feel it deep inside. Thank you so much for your reaction. You never disappoint. 💜
Vasco has walked 40+ years of music, thru drugs, perdition, failure, recovery, renaissance and still on top the hill, alive and kicking, still pulling 300.000+ spectators at concerts. Myth.

Vasco is a poet. Sally can be anyone of us. It's the melancholic time when youth is almost over and you think about your mistakes and misfortunes. You know that when a great part of your Life has gone away you have to think about the best and worst things you've gone through. But, in the end, it's always worth living and trying to do one's best, and Sally knows that! Anyway, as a woman, I always feel inside me all the female characters Vasco has depicted through all his long career...Jenny, Susanna and why not 'la strega' 'the witch'😁 Thank you Ang for commenting!

I think you nailed it, because that is what Vasco is all about and the reason he has been loved so much in Italy for so long. He speaks directly to the heart. I think you are on the right track to fully understand the phenomenon that is Vasco Rossi I'll put it in his own words: "(singing in front of people is) like a sublime sexual relationship, it is a very intense relationship with the audience, because you share the same emotions in the same moment. Sharing this between two persons is already delightful, sharing with many is the miracle, the mystery of a concert...... I write my songs like when you're in the dark and you sing to overcome your fears. The truth is, I tell about things I hold within myself, and when people hear it they recognize themselves and feel the same things inside. When you feel the same emotions with somebody else, especially those emotions you are ashamed of because you think you are alone with them, well that is the moment when the magic is so powerful. You feel less alone and the sharing is real"

@mad ang you're great as always! Great video, great sensitivity of yours. I'm happy you've listened to one of the song I've suggested to you (sure together with a bunch of other viewers, because this is one of the greatest songs of Vasco and maybe one of the greatest songs ever written). Keep on going on your journey, man! Here in Italy we're really appreciating what you're doing! 👍
Vasco likes it because in each of his pieces he tells stories and emotions from the point of view of those who have been through a lot and does it in a poetic key that is sometimes sweet and sometimes very hard, thanks for making these videos you are great
I am touched by your sensitivity to lyrics. Great gift, in my opinion. In a now distant interview, Vasco said that this song is about atypical females in their thirties, completely different from those who go to parties and clubs or go shopping and no longer try to attract the eyes of males. Now that I'm in my thirties, I see myself completely again. Of course there is a bit of sadness, but also an awareness of my possibilities and limitations that makes me calmer. Vasco is very good at capturing the moods of outsiders. and this song is the best proof of that
This angel is one of the best singers on our planet. Reactionaries, who have already made almost 7 thousand reactions (check my playlist) call her the queen of goosebumps! I invite you to discover this wonderful talented young singer. Please make reaction to Diana Ankudinova - (rarest contralto with polyphonic overtones) I was stunned to find that the first performance (Show "You are Super") I heard was when she was 14!!!! She's now 18 and still developing. She sings in Russian, French, English, Spain and Arabic. The covers she performed on that show are very popular on UA-cam. Many UA-camrs publish reactions on these performances, which include the ethnic song "River" (in a new musical arrangement), "Blizzard", "Wicked Game", "Human", "Derniere Danse", "Take On Me" and others. Please react to one of Diana's songs and I promise she will surprise you.
You must react to Vascos medley "BOLOGNA 2008, Ridere di te, Brava Giulia, Toffee". 9 min long video with him and his band on acustic instruments singing with the public
Please react to his first ever single... 1977 !! "Jenny è pazza" please please :) you're gonna love it. music and lyrics. True Vasco before he became popular.
Explaining to a non-Italian who Vasco is, is not easy (because he's part of my life). Vasco is history, Vasco is rock, Vasco is emotion, Vasco is suffering. Vasco makes you feel ALIVE.
Finally an American that reacts to Italian music. I appreciate you. I suggest Ligabue (my favourite), Litfiba (only in Piero Pelù period) and Zucchero "Sugar" Fornaciari. They're great! Bye
Not a "fanatic fan" of Vasco Rossi. I appreciate most of his songs but, sorry, I appreciate other Italians "cantautori" much more (Guccini, De Andrè, Battiato, Gabbani, Dalla, Conte, De Gregori, ...). But this song is, IMHO, simply a masterpiece. Excellent and competent reaction as usual, thanks Mad Ang.
Nice that you are discovering italian rock music. You should also know about a sort of "rivality" (not real, as often in music) between Vasco and Ligabue, the two "stadium filler" of Italy. So you should listen to some old Ligabue's rock song ("Tra palco e realtà", I ragazzi sono in giro", Urlando contro il cielo"). A good reason is his amazing guitarist Fede Poggipollini.

Someone in the comments below talked about other great Italian songwriters. In this video you can listen to Vasco's version of 'Generale' a song by Francesco De Gregori. A poem against every War. Let's make love not War 😁😍 All the people sing along because it's a song that every Italian knows. A sort of pacifist anthem. This song brings tears to my eyes each and every time I listen to it. Really moving.
Masterpiece,Vasco number one! 👑 Thank you so much for listening this song and for all your reactions! Anna from Italy 🥰🇮🇹🎸
there's a bit of "Sally" in every one of us
this is the greatnes of Vasco. In every his song, you can fell he is speking of you too
Vero
I am 35 years old and I am crying listening to this song.
Its really Unbelievable How strong is the shivers it can bring to Your skin
Grazie Vasco
many people here in italy have a tattoo on their bodies with this sentence " Perchè la vita è un brivido che vola via..è tutto un equilibrio sopra la follia". it is iconic sentence by Vasco.
Vasco is speaking about himself in this song ... Grazie Vasco ❤️
if you still don't have enough of Vasco Rossi I suggest you listen to REWIND, better in a live version. Pure energy. Thanks for your reactions
Sally is a great song, intense lyrics , a real poetry, the message is so strong and not easy! One of my favorite song of Vasco,!
Wow…such a classic!! I lived in Italy 11 years! I’m glad you are checking this out!!
Please make reaction to Diana Ankudinova -
(rarest contralto with polyphonic overtones)
I was stunned to find that the first performance (Show "You are Super") I heard was when she was 14!!!!

⬆️ Wicked Game (Chris Isaak cover)
You must react to Vascos medley "BOLOGNA 2008, Ridere di te, Brava Giulia, Toffee". 9 min long video with him and his band on acustic instruments singing with the public
Absolutely, you have to react to this. It is such a magic, intimate moment. When I saw it the first time I really cried of joy watching it.

Sally is one of the greatest masterpiece of all the italian music.
Absolute amazing song from heart
Thank you
Please react to his first ever single... 1977 !! "Jenny è pazza" please please :) you're gonna love it. music and lyrics. True Vasco before he became popular.
“because life is a thrill that flies away, it’s all a balance above the madness” is the most common line in italian people tatoos.
Bye
Every Vasco songs give you vibration ;)
Not a "fanatic fan" of Vasco Rossi. I appreciate most of his songs but, sorry, I appreciate other Italians "cantautori" much more (Guccini, De Andrè, Battiato, Gabbani, Dalla, Conte, De Gregori, ...). But this song is, IMHO, simply a masterpiece. Excellent and competent reaction as usual, thanks Mad Ang.
Fantastica canzoni...
Sally is one of my favs song of Vasco; it's so beautiful 🖤
Nice that you are discovering italian rock music. You should also know about a sort of "rivality" (not real, as often in music) between Vasco and Ligabue, the two "stadium filler" of Italy. So you should listen to some old Ligabue's rock song ("Tra palco e realtà", I ragazzi sono in giro", Urlando contro il cielo"). A good reason is his amazing guitarist Fede Poggipollini.
Listen to "Una canzone per te" by Vasco. I think it's one of his best love songs. :)
sally is a real masterpice. the song in it self (melodi and lyric) goes over music genre.
“It’s all a balance over the madness”.
Even the translation (absolutely rare) is deeply devastating. Vasco is a genius.
This song was my dad's favourite 🤍
Every song is fantastic...but Vasco is better live, because in a concert he lives the song with you ❤
Sally is a manifesto. It always gets me. Not matter how many times I listen to it, I always feel something really powerful. I'm happy you like it
in Italy Vasco Rossi's song Sally is present in textbooks and is studied at school
I love this song, my favourite of Vasco's
Sally at the end is a song that restore hope in the future!!! And we need it so much, specially these days of pandemy and global disasters.
Share the love.. spread the words. This is Sally.
This is not just a song but a real poem.
I of course know Vasco and I appreciate him even if I'm not listen to him, I like your point of view about him, you introduce me to his music
Me and many others have been sally at some point. This song means a lot. Provoca turbamenti hehe
Someone in the comments below talked about other great Italian songwriters. In this video you can listen to Vasco's version of 'Generale' a song by Francesco De Gregori. A poem against every War. Let's make love not War 😁😍
All the people sing along because it's a song that every Italian knows. A sort of pacifist anthem. Obviously Vasco's live version is gorgeous.❤️

"Perche' la vita è un brivido che vola via
È tutto un equilibrio sopra la follia"
"Because life is a thrill that flies away
It's a balance fully built on madness"
Bellissimo!
Listen "Gli spari sopra" 🤩 very different from Sally but really Amazing!
@@cloverbee7401 another cover that Vasco made was Creep by Radiohead "ad ogni costo"
PURE LOVE FROM ITALY MAD YOU ARE TOP ❤️💪🏼
Thank you soo much for letting know new generation this musicians and artists 🤙🤙🤙
"Because life is a shiver that flies away, everything is a balance over the madness" this is POESIA.
Complimenti!!! Saluti dall' Italia
Vasco absolutely live!! only live!!
I listen sally one million time and every time i cry.
Vinnie Colaiuta as a drummer!!!!
Sally is Vasco Rossi, once in an interview he said: sally talks about me, but it would have been too pathetic. So he wrote a song with a female character, that is is him.
You are now in "iconic italian Song" please, make a stop to enjoy De André: nothing rock, but pure poetry.
"Via del Campo" (maybe most famous) or "Fiume Sand creek" (about an american historic event)
Agree! De Andrea is amazing & worth your time.

My favourite De Andrè song is probably Dolcenera but it's impossible to choose. They're all masterpieces
Hey man you have to liste the live acoustic version of this song, amazing!!!
Vasco @Bologna Live.08 - Toffe-Ridere Di Te- Brava Giulia-Dormi Dormi.
We are all Sally sometimes.. we all know guilt and need to believe we can forgive and love ourselves or at least bare it. If not we can just listen to the beautiful sound of the pouring rain… it’s so hard to understand this in another language!! Thanks so much for trying!!
Complimenti per i tuoi video! Vasco é Vasco! È il TOP della perfezione artistica! Artista completo e grande poeta! Una leggenda!
