    I used to do sizing's and crown changes at Van Scoy. I really did not have much the pleasure of truly working with the metal. Gold is a fabulous material to work with. After leaving the Van Scoy Diamond Mine shop, I did not have much luck finding work. It seems smith's like to have their own shop, and I guess no one wanted a protege'

    Talking is WAY BETTER than music. Music is relaxing etc but talking gives like +200% more content and knowledge.

    beautiful work and awesome result! need to ask you a couple questions, what kind of glue do you use to stick paper to the metal, do you have Facebook page or Instagram account etc..?

      Thanks man. I used a simple general purpose wood glue back then. I'm living in the UK now, and find a prit stick works well too. I'm on Instagram. Find me under 'Jaco the jeweller' on Facebook I'm under Jewellery Works. I'm currently not running my own business, so haven't posted too regularly but you are welcome to message me on those mediums and I'll give you advice if you need it.

    what kind of torch do you recommend to smelt metal

    • @jacothejeweller
      @jacothejeweller  5 років тому +1

      Back then I used a cutting torch. I had a dedicated melting area with extraction and was able to really add heat at will. It was a great setup. Since I moved to the UK I simply use the Little torch with the multi jet melt head. It doesn’t do the volume as well and only melts about 40g at a time, but does the job if space is an issue. Platinum is no issue either. Just a bit more time. There are a few larger torches out there which works great. But for me it was a cutting torch from the hardware shop. Simple and cheap.

      Jaco Jordaan so i’ll be honest didnt know what a cutting torch was but, searched it up so its a oxyacetylene torch? and one more question does it last long for just melting lets say an ounce of silver like would i be able to get a good amount of melts with those little canisters they sale of the oxygen and acetylene bottles?

      Jaco Jordaan thanks for replying btw lol

      morpheus 420 I would suggest to use the big oxygen and propane bottles - I was only referring to the torch. Get a beefy torch and plug into the big bottles. That way you get months of melting pleasure.
