Great video really like seeing how you created the earrings. A lil unsure on the mechanism but as we all know sometimes its a you gotta make it thing and then you can understand it a lil bit better. Great video. Thank you for sharing it with everyone

So helpful! I am wondering if you would ever do a video on what health and safety you employ in your workshop, eg. Do you use a ventilation system for soldering, and the reasons why or why not etc. :)

Great video Jaco & Damia, really interesting although I'll have to 'pause and play' to take in what you are doing (the edits make it appear that you don't stop for a breath... 🥵). I'll give these a try in brass or silver before I move onto the big boys bullion! Thanks to you both and please keep these videos coming!

Jaco, at around the 6 minute mark, you used some kind of dapping blick to keep the earing parts circular. What is this called please, and any clues about where to purchase? Thanks Dave

What kind of oil do you prefer to use in your ingot mold strip?

Loved this technique video. Thank you very much, Jaco. I have a question on this pair, how do you get such low karat gold (9kt) to look so yellow in the video? 14k is very light, hardly yellow, I don't understand how 9k can look like 22k in this video. Is it just the lighting? Also, I find it interesting that 9k is considered desirable in the UK and Europe, etc. In the US, 14k is the low bar. It's certainly stronger, and that is a benefit. Any idea why the difference in cultural acceptance? I've always wondered.

Thanks - yep, 9ct is still alive and kicking. In the UK we don’t see as much of it and I would say 18ct would be the standard here. It still remains popular for gents rings for its strength. 14ct is 58.5% AU where 9ct is only 37.5% AU. I hardly work in 9ct these days but in this case the customer provided some of it, so I mixed the higher carats down to 9 to get the volume. As for the colour, I would imagine that as it’s mixed lower down with brass, it could possibly be darker than 14. But that’s a whole other subject. Damia also edits the colour slightly for the videos and we do film in a darker environment which enriches the colour to avoid the strobe effect from the bench lights. Hope this answers it - 👌🏻

@jacothejeweller Jaco, that completely makes sense. Thanks for the explanation 👍🏻 I love how you explained the geometry of those hoop earrings. I've always wondered - having not made that particular style before - how the ear bar keeps its shape and tension. Now I know. I appreciate the advanced instruction. There is very little of this level being shared so well. Very grateful.

Ooh, one more question while you're in the mood 😃 I didn't quite get what you meant by turning it on when drawing your heavy wire with your rolling mill. Is it electric? I have a mill, but it sure isn't electric. It's driven by my personal slave (me)! I also have no draw bench, and it is a BEAR to draw wire. Please elucidate when able - perhaps a demo with more info? I've never seen or heard of drawing wire through a plate with a mill. I'd love to see that 🙏 please, and thank you!

Jaco, love your videos, BUT, I have made these earrings before. You may be spending a little too much time telling what you DON'T want to happen rather than showing what you want the result to be. When looking at your hand movements sometimes I have no idea what point you are trying to get across (I do the same thing lol). Thank you for the videos and keep up the great work.
