Despite Australia’s ongoing obsession with all things SUV, car makers keep a fleet of plucky passenger carriages in their fleet.
A discerning buyer will realise that he doesn’t need to corner at warp ten, and will never go further afield than a proper Australian country lane. That’s not to say there won’t be a grassy slope at the polo match to contend with, and there is the sports gear to consider.
Audi A4 Allroad is an absolute belter.
It has all of the things you want in an SUV, but none of the nonsense that goes with it. There is a ton of internal space, but you don’t have to worry your pretty head about knocking the paint off on low hanging carpark signs.
The Looks:
A4 is a bit of an understated stunner.
A4 is the one who sits quietly in a corner of the bar, but everyone notices. A4 gets loads of drinks bought for it, and never goes home alone.
A4 is no tart, oh no.
A4 is dressed smart casual. Nothing is over the top. The front end is lit with a veritable Christmas tree of LEDs. The headlights are fully automatic. At night, the high beam turns on and off as if by magic.
The rear is similarly strewn and LED arrays. Audi has always done a nice line in lighting.
Wheels look huge, and at 18” are big enough to be going on with. They’re deeply dished, with a 5-spoke V design. Highlight inserts in graphite, sparkle in the sun.
Matching grey plastic arches are a nod to off-roading aspirations. Better to scratch those than the paintwork on the driveway at your country pile in the highlands. It sits slightly higher than the regular A4, just in case the muddy track needs filling in.
Roof racks in polished aluminium, glint attractively, to give the roof a final bit of jewellery.
A4 Allroad looks expensive, but unassuming.

The volume/radio control in the middle console enable the passenger to easily access these functions. For the driver, there are controls on the steering wheel.

...and it is not there because Audi designed it for a left hand driving car but because it is more convenient. Right hand Siri ING cars have it on the other side.
Getting my first Audi ever in two days A4 Allroad can't wait.

The A4 allroad is not produced in China, although Audi has a production line in China to produce the A4 series, so last year I waited 8 months to get my customized A4 allroad, great car!
