  • The Revolutionary Tech Behind Tokyo 2020 Olympics ~ Tech Sonic
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics will see 206 countries competing in 33 sports with more than 11,000 athletes in all categories of sport. The Tokyo Olympics didn’t happen last year due to covid-19 restrictions. The games are billed for 23rd July to 8th August 2021. Tokyo has had a great feat when it comes to technology.
The Chinese computing and online retailer, Alibaba has partnered with the Olympics to produce world-class tech games. The American multinational tech company, Intel has also partnered with the committee for the games this year. The International Olympic Committee has declared that Tokyo 2020 will be the most innovative Olympic Games ever. The partnered organizations provided tech support including advanced artificial intelligence and immersive experiences through automobiles. Alibaba and Intel pledged in 2019 to make the games the most technologically advanced sporting competition ever. The companies explained that apart from integrating world-class technology to deliver an improved experience for all, they hope to establish the crucial essence of technology in business advancement.
The companies will work together on a 3D athlete tracking system. The athlete tracking system is a product of Intel. The technology records every angle of the player’s movements on the field. The goals, the saves, and the tackles are all going to be captured in 3D and replayed from whatever angle
The Itel true view gives you the moments as they happen from a 360-degrees point of every athlete. So that the last-minute score line-changing moments can be relived. The technology has 38 5K ultra-high-definition cameras positioned all over the stadium. The videos are recorded and processed on the Itel processing power, Voxels in a 3D view of the pitch. The video processors who receive the data from all available cameras piece the videos and images from all the angles together to form a single 3D image. The best part of the technology is that the viewer can choose whichever side of the pitch they want their view to be. The athletes are also aligned in the true positions on the field so that there is a clear idea of where the athlete is standing and the distances involved. You are allowed to also see the moments that you want to relive from the point of view of the other athletes. For the Olympics, the athlete tracking system will be installed by Itel and hosted on Alibaba's cloud. All athletes will have four cameras on them to provide a 3D view of their movements in competition. The improvement to the already tested technology is that there are algorithms that assess the performances of each athlete and then create a performance assessment for the coaches based on motion, form, and biomechanics during the competition. The sports journalists will also report and analyze the games with the help of performance assessments.
The use of 5G for significant tasks at Tokyo 2020 will put Japan on the map as a major technology player globally. The 2020 Olympics in Japan will only bring the world's best record-breaking sports moments but also the most innovative technology in all aspects of the events. The technology covers infrastructure; the moment you stepped foot at the airport and won’t stop until the closing ceremony. The problems of the previous Olympic Games will be solved by digital technology. Japan is also trying to teach a lesson on how the highest technology can fix all problems.
Are you getting ready to watch the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games, and what do you make of the cut-throat technology that will be implemented? Are you looking forward to more technological advancements for future Olympic Games or, are you comfortable with the current rate of technology?
