I'm an avowed cruiser guy. Having said that an acquaintance of mine let me take his zx10 for a ride one day. Lifting the front tire at 70 mph with just a blip of the throttle was a life altering experience...
I had a laundry altering experience myself. Trying to explain to the wife why I'm throwing away 'perfectly good' underwear and not washing them. I ride a Tuono every day so I thought I was used to lairy motors 😢
That is a completely incorrect description of the function of a steering stabilizer. It's function is to prevent head shake in high speed sweeper curves, since the steep rake and short trail of a sport bike's chassis can easily become unsettled and/or unstable in hard cornering situations. A steering stabilizer will prevent tank slap in these situations, which could tear the handlebar out of the rider's hands and cause an accident resulting in severe injury and/or death.
Harley Adam if you think about it, he's right, because tank slaps occur when the front wheel is picked up and set back down at the wrong angle. How else do you get a tank slap besides the front wheel coming up and touching back down crooked?
the only time my gsxr has become unstable is when you go over a hill at 120mph at 11k rpm and the front wheel barely glides on the pavement. never experienced headshake in a corner.
yep slaps come when that front wheel is starting to come off the ground a bit, usually in straight line under acceleration or when you hit a nasty bump, shouldnt come in corner
One thing I can agree on is speeding is easy, but braking and handling is hard. I have a sv650, and my friend has a k8 gsxr 750, I lose him in the corners every time. But on straights, he pulls on me everytime.
Tank slap (high speed wobbles) are caused by the left & right front shock absorber extending & compressing at different rates to each other, causing the opposite side to compress ,extend. It only takes a small variation to start the repeating compressing & rebounding at different rates to each other. Usually after exiting a corner under acceleration at which point travelling up to the forks to the handle bar. The centrifugal force of the rotating wheel amplifies the force applied to the suspension until it is impossible to control the handle bars. The steering damper is designed to absorb the tiny variation difference between left & right fork thereby eliminating the tank slap before its even started. When tank slap starts especially if it does not have a S Damper the best way to stop tank slap, is get the front wheel off the ground (Wheelie) then put the wheel down 12 o’clock straight both shocks compressing evenly together. If you get tank slap often, check your fork heights left to right, get your leaky forks fixed. Short wheel base bike suffer this problem most often.

I started on a Ninja 250 in the early 90s, graduated thru the ranks to a zx9 ( many years ago, and more bike than anyone ever really "needs" ), an my current ride is a Ninja ZX6 ( older bike ). More than enough bike. Save the racing for the track and ride like you want to make it home. Always ride in safety gear. Tee shirts and flip flops are for beaches.
Actually he is 100% correct, when you wheelie at higher speeds and your front wheel comes back down the damper absorbs the shock preventing tank slap or wobble as beginner riders call it. Any seasoned rider knows exactly what he was trying to say....
You are right. But you CAN ride slowly on a zx14 or s1000rr. The problem is that newbies have no idea how fast bikes are. As in 0-150 in 10 or 12 seconds. Get a dirt bike and learn to really ride BEFORE the r6... :)
Srkcycles i just meant you could be careful with the throttle if you know what you are riding. And not waste money on a bike you don't want...Counterpoint?
SNAKE'S aNIGER my counterpoint would be that it's way to fucking tempting to twist that throttle more each time and you will probably go too fast for your abilities before you realize it
Man I want a 600 so badly I've been saving for a bike and a part of me knows it's going to be a whilr before I can buy another. So starting on a 600 would mean I wouldn't have to turn around and sell my shit only to get what I truly want. Everything about a 600 is bad ass. The sound, looks and of course the speed (Wich I'm not terribly obsessed with) My dream bike is a 2008 cbr 600, the lines are perfect the exhaust comes out the back which looks sexy. And the over all stance spot on. But sigh, my brother is showing me ads of a Yamaha r3 for $3000. And deep down I know it's the right thing to go with.
I'm in your shoes brother! It really stinks where the money to purchase one isn't the issue but the lack of experience is. I went to a Triumph dealer and the salesman actually talked me out of purchasing a Trident 660 as my first bike. I was totally amazed at his total honesty and purchased the whole dealership a pizza party for his information he conveyed to me. He told me I wouldn't have time to put a metal license plate on the Trident before I was in a coffin. This was after I agreed to full MSRP with all the extras. Alex at Miami Triumph has to be the most honest salesman I've ever met. I'm probably still alive today because of him!
If there is a patch of dirt/sand, oil whatever on the road. Your going fast, on a high HP or what ever bike. Any how even on what ever cc/power bike there will be a situation past your limits. Rain/sleet/snow. Look/keep your eyes on the road ahead of you, where you want to go. YOU DON'T NEED TO DO MOCH13 AROUND CORNERS. I am so glad I was tough counter steering, and weight exchange. At a young age, well anyways knew about it. Watch the road and look far ahead, very far. you will be fine. Yeah and it helps if you started on a starter bike, with the help from good friends.
People with issue on the steering damper comments... head shake/speed wobble can occur for any reason but usually when accelerating hard! That front wheel gets light at the top of the RPM band on these 600's even in full tuck especially if you are a lighter rider. It's happened to me under full acceleration at the top of 3rd going about 130 indicated. I shifted into 4th and immediately let off the throttle not even thinking about it. Well the light front tire and the sudden deceleration caused a full tank slapper. THE scariest moment of my life, hands down. Wished I had a damper in that moment for sure.
Have a 2017 R6 with no stabilizer from factory... had few wobbles.. there a lot that come in play 1- suspension sag front/back to rider weight 2- speed, road conditions with a lot of bumps 3- body position etc...
I like your commitment comment on the corner...I recently bought a 88 ex500 and am putting it together slowly but surely ...an no didn't talk me out of it..,
Did my theory last Tuesday, cbt Wednesday, session on a 500 & 600 friday. Module 1 and 2 booked for full A licence! Getting a 600cc sport bike for my first bike :) 🤷♂️
Have you ever ridden a 2007 Mv Agusta f4 1000r? Pretty cool sound, and in my opinion a level 5 for all that power with little rear Nissin brake grab. The fron is the mighty Brembo's, with a curb weight of 443 pounds, at high speeds needing to maneuver while braking. That's probably why people sell em' so cheap! Very odd ball ergonomics, rwhp 163 stock and upto183 with mods.
In the majority of European countries you basically need to start riding big/fast bikes, like a supersport or whatever( at least 600cc) if you want to take the unrestricted license. For example the driving/riding school I attended used Honda cb1000r as learner bikes. You can get hurt even with 50cc mopeds, or even on budget bikes such as 250-400cc "beginners" bikes, if you use your head then get what ever you want as a beginner bike.
Pillokun my driving school had Suzuki Gladius 650 :) rented it for my drivers license test-day and succeeded! rode my baby Ninja 300 with the biggest smile in my life 😂
In the Majority of Euro countries, the licences are staged from light to heavy classed bikes and a driving school that uses 1000cc supersports is stupid and bankrupt within months (also: no insurance company would cover those bikes)
Nope. I daily an ‘03 954RR. The only time I get any wobble is under hard acceleration where the front barely comes off the ground. If I bring the wheel up even the tiniest bit more and the front stays stable. Or, I could slow down.... Nawwww. I haven’t had any wobble translate to the body but I’ve also not picked the front end up at crazy high speed. I do lots of power wheelies but I don’t ever clutch up.
My first road bike was an srad gsxr, straight onto it after my test. Advice my father gave me was, a bike will only go as fast as you make it go. I've only ever went fast on clear conditions on twisty roads, never in rain and never on bad roads. Its how you ride that causes accidents. You ride like a douche your going to come off. At 50yr old I'm still on a gsxr and Kwak. Keep the rubber side down, stay safe
I love your videos but they're always so misleading he put the title and I'm thinking this is going to be about Kawasaki and how they're not reliable how they leak oil a shake or something like that I started off on a dirt bike then on my friends 650 Suzuki I took the motorcycle course got my license and ever since then all I ride is Kawasaki I never had a problem with any of them and I thought that's what you were going to talk about in this thing my first bike was a ZX10 and that was just too powerful and now I just drive a Ninja 1000 and I like the comfort and the reliability keep riding and God bless
Headshake is caused by weight transfer onto the front end while the front wheel is not parallel to the path of travel. Each fork experiences different loading, and can travel up/down out of sync with each other to compensate for the unequal load. The forks moving in different directions causes the front wheel to turn side to side. That's what causes headshake. It's a scary but inherent part of motorcycle design.
Unintentional power wheelie followed by panic throttle chop with the front wheel not straight is one cause. Other causes can include hitting bumps, braking while leaned over, steering during heavy acceleration/braking, improper suspension settings, or any combination of the above.
There are several things that can cause, or make a bike more susceptible to headshake, not just wheelies. Bad wheel alignment, improper suspension set up, uneven pavement, power curve drop-off and rev limiting, even unconsciously putting too much pressure on the right handlebar while twisting the throttle can increase the risk The design geometry itself of a sportbike makes it less stable than, say, a cruiser or tourer, so it's not a bad idea to add a damper just for safety if it doesn't come with one.
Jeremiah Baker I think it’s sales tactics. He talks the older guys interested in cruisers into cruisers by telling them how great it is and why they should buy it. Then with sport bikes that are aimed at young guys he makes it sound like they can’t handle it, the easiest way to make a young guy do something is to tell him not to do it. That and I think he does care enough that he really doesn’t want someone to buy a bike from him and go kill themselves on it.
These are road legal race bikes. That's why inexperienced/new riders shouldn't get them as a first bike. That's all. In terms of sport bikes, FZ/MT-07, SV650, the new Ninja 400 are made differently than the R class of sport and supersport motorcycles. They're more forgiving and easier to learn fundamentals on. The aesthetics of sport bikes are the most appealing thing. I think that's why I like the combination of looks and performance that the Vulcan S sport cruiser has.
I was hooked at "reasons NOT to buy the bike" and then the wheelie talk nonsense was corroborated by your oh so awesome words of "wisdom". Yep, I got unhooked real quick.
Okay so I am going between a zx6r and an mt07 for a first bike You didn’t talk me out of a super sport for a first bike but I am a little worried I won’t be able to control it Most people tell me to just have throttle control and I’ll be fine and I would just keep it in b mode Do you think I can control it or should I get an mt07 ? Also what is the difference in power and torque between an mt07 and a zx6r in b mode ? Ps I’ve ridden atvs and mtb my whole life and my friends dirt bike for a bit. Thanks
First off I only clicked on the video because I thought you was going to talk about the quality of a Kawasaki 600. Not too listen to you tell me how a steering damper doesnt works.Which you know nothing about. Ever hear the word tank slapper? Not sure how wheelies have anything to do with it. Other than putting down the bike with the front wheel straight. You could have done a better video on a 250r you never left second gear.

I'm not sure what to get, any help would be appreciated. I was thinking of either getting a ninja zx6r, a Honda cbr 600f4i, or a yamaha fz6r (with a handlebar swap maybe?). And the furthest I'd go is like 2 hours in distance.
Sit on them all and one might fit better. If absolutely love the looks over another you can improve the riding position with different clip-ones and rear sets. But will be an added cost.
FZ6R will be the most comfortable period... You can improve comfort on any bike...but doesn't mean you can make it comparable to another.. For instance, the tallest windscreen you could get for a ZX6R or F4i will still sit lower than a stock fz6r windscreen. Same for clip ons… My personal opinion... don't try to make a bike gear for comfort when it wasn't meant for any of that. You're just wasting time and money. If you're looking for slight relief then by all means go ahead, but if you're looking for a sporty, but decently comfortable bike... stay away from zx6r and F4i.. IF you're young the seating positions won't bother you that much, BUT if they do even at a young age.. go with either a FZ6R or a VFR800.. If you want to keep up better with the zx6r and F4i get the VFR800. VFR800 is a little on the porky side but its definitely putting out more power than the FZ while still offering the ability to be just as comfortable with mods.. ZX6R depending on the Year will definitely be the fastest of the bunch... F4i will be slightly slower.. I'd say VFR800 is a strong middle ground between the zx6r/F4I …. I'm going to be frank... You're going to get roasted by EVERY 600cc supersport by a long shot if you pick up a FZ6r in the straights. VFR800 gives you a chance to stay with a F4I if you aren't fat.

@@italiaboyfresh87 he rides bears shirtless so he's good
I took a turn way too fast today and it was thanks to this video that I did not panic brake and fly off the road
When Sean says it can do sub 3 sec. 0-60 he actually means sub 4 sec.
A steering damper has nothing to do with the front wheel coming up... a damper stops high speed wobbles HAHAHAHA
Actually he is 100% correct, when you wheelie at higher speeds and your front wheel comes back down the damper absorbs the shock preventing tank slap or wobble as beginner riders call it. Any seasoned rider knows exactly what he was trying to say....
@@greenmarine5 ooooo snap.
@whitehammer89
You are right. But you CAN ride slowly on a zx14 or s1000rr. The problem is that newbies have no idea how fast bikes are. As in 0-150 in 10 or 12 seconds. Get a dirt bike and learn to really ride BEFORE the r6... :)
why would you have one of those bikes if your going to drive it slow???
Srkcycles i just meant you could be careful with the throttle if you know what you are riding. And not waste money on a bike you don't want...Counterpoint?
dumdass
Srkcycles if you like the look and feel of the bike
SNAKE'S aNIGER my counterpoint would be that it's way to fucking tempting to twist that throttle more each time and you will probably go too fast for your abilities before you realize it
Such a beautiful cherry red. I had a red ninja, it was awesome
you talked me into it even more.
Thanks for doing the tank straps sales promo near the end of video
People with issue on the steering damper comments... head shake/speed wobble can occur for any reason but usually when accelerating hard! That front wheel gets light at the top of the RPM band on these 600's even in full tuck especially if you are a lighter rider. It's happened to me under full acceleration at the top of 3rd going about 130 indicated. I shifted into 4th and immediately let off the throttle not even thinking about it. Well the light front tire and the sudden deceleration caused a full tank slapper. THE scariest moment of my life, hands down. Wished I had a damper in that moment for sure.
Have a 2017 R6 with no stabilizer from factory... had few wobbles.. there a lot that come in play
1- suspension sag front/back to rider weight
2- speed, road conditions with a lot of bumps
3- body position etc...
Love the scriptures bro
willisthekid I agree, pretty cool to see fellow bikers living in faith, not something you see often
I like your commitment comment on the corner...I recently bought a 88 ex500 and am putting it together slowly but surely ...an no didn't talk me out of it..,
Every rider including myself that I know has started on a 600 no life threatening injuries have occurred
Honestly a 650 is a nicer place to start.
Maybe, but Lotta people die on them.his best line might be - its serious
Aye same bike same color! Gotta love Kawasaki
I have a 08 ninja zx6r really great bike very fun and very fast.
Did my theory last Tuesday, cbt Wednesday, session on a 500 & 600 friday. Module 1 and 2 booked for full A licence! Getting a 600cc sport bike for my first bike :) 🤷♂️
Great video keep them coming I love that bike
I needed those words of wisdom today
14:45 Remember, It’s not what you’re riding. It’s what Tie-down straps You’re using.
nice words of wisdom and advice on bike to buy i was to buy a ninja and am a first timer
Pillokun my driving school had Suzuki Gladius 650 :) rented it for my drivers license test-day and succeeded! rode my baby Ninja 300 with the biggest smile in my life 😂
In the Majority of Euro countries, the licences are staged from light to heavy classed bikes
and a driving school that uses 1000cc supersports is stupid and bankrupt within months (also: no insurance company would cover those bikes)
As a bike salesman, you sell power and responsibility.
Lol
I think he's trolling y'all with the steering dampener comment....
My first bike was a 750 Gsxr. I get around just fine. Slowly pushing myself more n more everytime. But i used to rude dirt bikes when i was little
My first road bike was an srad gsxr, straight onto it after my test.
Man what kinda exhaust is on that thing lol sounds awesome?
I love your channel and the proverbs
She's not aggressive at all. It only comes off the ground in first gear with the fuel on reserve. Unless you clutch it, of course.
As Always Great Show!!!!!😎👍
"I'm gonna talk you out of buying this bike ... But first let me show you how fast it goes" 😉
Hmmm every review video on a cruiser "GOD THIS BIKE IS AMAZING"
Hmmm every review video on a sport bike "YOU SHOULD NOT BE BUYING THIS BIKE"
Jeremiah Baker I think it’s sales tactics. He talks the older guys interested in cruisers into cruisers by telling them how great it is and why they should buy it. Then with sport bikes that are aimed at young guys he makes it sound like they can’t handle it, the easiest way to make a young guy do something is to tell him not to do it.
That and I think he does care enough that he really doesn’t want someone to buy a bike from him and go kill themselves on it.
@@mcearl8073 Im pretty sure he has said before that if somebody walked into his store trying to buy an R1 as their first bike he would just refuse
I was gonna buy one in the morning. Thank you.
Update* 🤷♂️🤷♂️
No joke man my last bike was a buolt 2011 zx10r and hes not kidding theres no option on that front wheel coming up unless you have a stretched bike
The stock damper does nothing really due to liability issues if it was turned full stiff and could result in a low speed tipover.
Needs to be revalved
Love the prayer part !!
Racing on a straight would not indicate someone’s skill of riding but rather who has the faster bike
I have got a Kawasaki 636 this is my first bike I have had after 20 years of not riding I think this is a very bad idea the bike is seriously quick
Great video👍🏿
It's a shimmy damper. It's to reduce how fast the front can shake. Or a "tank slapper"
is it me or everytime I see srk go to ride a wheelie it's always a lousy wheelie ! Lmfao😂 just playin bro😏
He don’t know how to STUNT...He does know how to HUSTLE though 😂🤣😂
Encouraging riders to take a motocycle safety course ..as SRK is no hands Charlie..i do it all the time as well
amazing sound, amazing bike
The words of wisdom convinced me to still get this bike 😅
Dang that's nice bike 👍
It's for when your wheel comes off the ground and you dont put it down straight. That wheel is comin off the ground no matter what.
Do you suggest the same for a 2015 ninja 650 with ABS?
I’m still unsure I’m going to the msf tomorrow I’m thinking of a ninja 650 but I was wanting something faster but I am new so I don’t know thoughts?
Okay so I am going between a zx6r and an mt07 for a first bike
You didn’t talk me out of a super sport for a first bike but I am a little worried I won’t be able to control it
Most people tell me to just have throttle control and I’ll be fine and I would just keep it in b mode
Do you think I can control it or should I get an mt07 ?
HAHA thats true
I hope you feel better after your comment
Hey shaun, I've been riding dirtbikes my entire life and I'm GENUINELY an expert rider, do you think a cbr600rr would be a good fit for me. I handle 50hp in dirt so I dont want a 300
Rut Evolution just get a 1000, you’ll be bored of the 600 in a couple months. I grew up on motocross bikes as well.
@@Cody2nd Very tempting. I'm leaning towards either a FZ07 or a CBR600rr or 1000rr
@@colebaranek4604 just get a 600, if you are a good rider then you can keep up with guys on 1000's. It's not about the bike, it's about the rider. I have a ninja 650 and its plenty fast to keep up, I'm just not a great rider lol
@@deathblade63 oh sweet that was my play. I still want a cbr600rr or a fz07. Thanks.👍

That bike would be a cruiser, lol.
Awesome video but the Original Sports Bike's are the Kawasaki KZ750 / 1000 Honda CB750 /1000 Suzuki GS650 / 1000 Yamaha XJ650 / 1000 the bikes that started today's sports bike's if you are a beginner rider start out with one of the bikes listed above preferably 650 or 750 if you have to go big kz1000 cb1000 get the experience and then move to a newer sports bike

yamaha dragstar xvs650 great for beginners. enjoy the motorcycle, not the max speed it delivers...
Zx6e was my third. I first got a GS400. I sold that got a hawk GT v twin I then got my zx6e also known as the zzx 600
I will admit the first time I took a class on a track where I had to trust the bike and throw my first turn and just drop a knee and go for it was scary as hell. Even after riding for 20 years on a quick turn I get a lump in my throat.
I'm not sure what to get, any help would be appreciated. I was thinking of either getting a ninja zx6r, a Honda cbr 600f4i, or a yamaha fz6r (with a handlebar swap maybe?). And the furthest I'd go is like 2 hours in distance.
Jeremiah Lauzon Yamaha R6
I'd say VFR800 is a strong middle ground between the zx6r/F4I
…. I'm going to be frank... You're going to get roasted by EVERY 600cc supersport by a long shot if you pick up a FZ6r in the straights. VFR800 gives you a chance to stay with a F4I if you aren't fat.
Skyler.G I know they are, can I not be interested in different styles of bikes?
Skyler.G what kind of fool replies with it’s two different styles of bikes... you need to research more... if that isn’t the dumbest shit I’ve heard all day
