I really like what DC is doing here. In addition to collecting those stories mentioned in their digest trades, they are printing them on newsprint, similar to manga, and charging $10 for a full story arc. If one of these companies can grab a sliver of the American manga market, then comics will be in a good place.
Dollar Tree can afford the display because it's a large company and have a variety of items for sale that are actually essential. Comic shops just provide limited interest items to the public. Buying the actual things you need in life is a #1 concern. So a $1.25 book is preferable to spending $4.00 or $5.00 for a comic that you'll read in ten minutes and then put away.
While they are likely from some bargin bin, it's nice seeing comics in a common store instead of being in a comic shop in the middle of nowhere (like where I'm from)
I dont want to sound like a hater, but comic shops have dollar bins all over the nation and it hasnt moved the needle, but great for dollar tree selling them but old 1 dollar stores did this back in the mid 90s as well its not nothing new.
Casuals generally don't set foot in comic shops. That's part of the reason the industry became niche. You gotta find a way to get spinner racks back in drugstores, convenience stores, and Walmart at the cheapest price you can.
Yes @FatalJay I am in agreement with@@Shiftygism 's answer. The non-reader isn't at the shop. They're at Dollar Tree. This low risk purchase will make customers who will be filing through those dollar bins.
@@ChillMonger I grew up in poverty like a lot of us. Obviously I loved the extremely few comics I had from purchased from a pawn shop couple blocks away from our home back in the 90s. If my mom would could easily spot comics like this in a dollar store (which she frequented), I would have had a ton of them. My mom would get me coloring books constantly based on super heroes and xmen as that was super easy to find everywhere and really inexpensive. I loved them as well, and always appreciated it. But man, I know for sure she would've hooked me up with more comics lol
No, this is a great idea. The 10 year old will beg his mum. It’s the right price point at the right location. Walmart comics were too expensive for 10 year olds and 10 year olds didn’t go to comic shops for $1 bin comics. This solves both problems. Great idea. I wonder if other publishers will follow suit.
@@ChillMonger well im sure youre lucky to even find old DC Rebirth stuff at YOUR dollar tree store. the one that i go is crap where all they ever get for new stuff are those microwave burgers
Diamond is a huge reason its dying. .Greed is the other. every issue having 30 variants gets old to retailers and collectors
I've always thought that Marvel and DC should stock the dollar store shelves with reprints. Glad to see DC doing this now.
I was in a Dollar Tree last week and it caught my eye. I was surprised to see comics in there.
It's gonna catch every male's eyes. Particularly since it's a store where we scan products as we stroll.
I just started collecting comics. Both DC &Marvel
Make mine Dollar Tree and Bro Comics🎉
Forreal.
and for those of you who don't know, thats a play off of the slogan Make Mine Marvel

I think you missed the entire point of this...
I felt one, they felt thinner, am I right?
I haven't gotten the chance to visit a Dollar Tree.
Why would you argue against this ffs?
Not sure this was a DC exec but a third party seller.
wait, what? Dollar Tree stores are now selling old DC Rebirth stuff? When did this start going on?
Just now. It is a current news story.
