Someone from Sovol is clearly listening to you as the wiki page and google docs page has been updated with your recommendations. Nice to see an OEM paying close attention to their users.
Thanks for the video Bryan. As I set (almost patiently) awaiting my SV08 your video helps me feel a little closer. Nice job keeping this project organized in a fashion I understand.
And here I am, waiting for mine to arrive from april :') Thank you for making videos on this printer so I can be as ready as possible the day my printer comes!
I haven't noticed a difference. They added some features related to Obico for printer monitoring, but I don't use Obico's service. They may have added or streamlined other features behind the scenes as well.
I'm still on the fence about plunking down my hard earned for an SV08, although knowing that Sovol is doing firmware updates is promising. Do you SSH into your SV08 and does it automatically save a previous copy of your printer.cfg file?
Hi Stew, it _DID_ save a copy of *printer.cfg* as *printer-backup.cfg* but it looks like it overwrote some changes I made in the *macros.cfg* file to change the screen backlight color. I'll have to re-do those. I don't SSH to the printer, I interact with it in a web browser.
@@BV3D That's a shame. At least it's not Marlin and you have to reset everything after each firmware upgrade to be sure. Thanks again for the great content, although you were a bit lacking in the usual quantity of the puns and Dad jokes, LOL.
Thanks for the video ... I have my sv08 box for a while now ..I'll soon unbox it I'll for sure upgrade the firmware at first start ( so I do not do the setup and have to redo it twice ) ... any other recommendations / check to do when unboxing / doing the initial setup ?
Really great video, thank you! My question is: What about other settings like Pressure Advance? Is it not needed to calibrate anymore? I thought I read that it can auto calibrate it, but I can't seem to find that info anymore...
So how did you know it needed an update? Was there any indication in the web UI? Like a typical Klipper install? Are any updates shown or done through web UI.
I only knew by comparing the revision listed on the printer's Information menu, and the Sovol Wiki page for the SV08. I haven't tried updating via the Mainsail UI, mostly because Sovol had this other procedure in place.
What is the difference of flasing firmware to burning the img file to the emmc? I tried to run the kaiuh update on klipper but it failed, it did update moonraker but then moonraker says it is broken now. Firmware update did not fix it, Reset does nothing but screw with the WiFi connection.
As a long-term Klipper user, why is Sovol not just allowing you to do the update via the Mainsail Update Manager under Machine? They could add their own entry for any specific stuff you need to add like macros. The SV08 is the only Klipper machine I own that doesn't allow me update it and the OS this way. 😬
I'm not yet a klipper user , but I just found a video that is showing how to go to a Mainline Klipper ua-cam.com/video/FN0fkLF7ppc/v-deo.htmlsi=UndwRTPg1Dklcl8f
That's for re-flashing the operating system on the EMMC storage, on the printer's main board. So, on a Raspberry Pi-based Klipper printer, you could just pull the MicroSD card out of the board and re-flash it. But on this board, its on-board storage is an EMMC module. The USB adapter has a port for the EMMC module. Remove the EMMC module from the printer's main board, plug the module into the adapter, plug the adapter into a USB port, and re-flash the operating system using the Rasperry Pi Imager utility. The whole "re-flash the operating system" process is something that could be useful if something gets corrupted on the on-board OS and it can no longer boot.
It is kinda stupid to not have any information on the screen about the update process. And nowadays everything is done Ota so this seems preeeeetty old stuff. You can see the level of this company by these little things.
Yeah, I can see that.. issue is.. this machine is very much like any other Voron or Ratrig. There never really is any “firmware” for those.. it’s all about printer.cfg and klipper updates. So whatever the firmware is doing is at a board level.

Only one recommendation. Firmware's still called "Sovol_update_package"
Shiny new firmware is the best! 95K, so close. I can’t wait for the 100K party!!
Everybody likes shiny new firmware! 😀
A very clear guide to updating the firmware. Thanks you.
Great How To video. Thanks. I'm waiting for Black Friday to order my SV08, so I'm watching videos and printing SV08 anti-vibration feet.

You're very welcome! Thank you for watching!
Can't wait to get my SV08, this is great to know all of this in advance, thanks.
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
Can you do a follow up video on how the firmware has fixed the short comings of the printer?
Thanks BV3D.
Very nicely done.
Thank you !
Thanks for the clear guide.
Did you notice any difference in the printers performance after the FW update? Reliability, speed or whatever?

Don't have this printer, just here for the dad jokes thanks 🤣😂

Did your camera stop working after the 2.3.3 update? Mine did and says moon raker needs to be updated. Now what?

As of 10/9/2024 the firmware update log for the SV08 is blank. Not sure what is happening but it doesn't show anything on my side.

So the emmc adapter. Whats that for? 🤨

If the OS / the printer don't boot and so also don't start an dab update
@@BV3D thank you ! 😁
NO Update over Lan? i dont understand, why i should update the firmware like this. I can go to the Mainsailweb and update there cant i?
Anyone able to confirm if this will re-write the current firmware if you are already at 2.3.3?
Thank you a lot, but after the update my printer.cfg has changed, all changes are lost.
Better to backup them bevor.
Check in the printer's files, there may be a printer.cfg backup file from just before the update.
@@BV3D you're right. Thanks you again :-)
@@ihmSelbst Sure thing! I'm glad I could help!
Just got my SV08 and cant update, states 2.3.3 4/27 no matter what i do.

So much for attention to detail, maybe they weren't important details, just suggestions. Sheesh!
