I liked this video series you did a lot. It convinced me to buy and play Blood Money last year and then try 2016 and H2 as well. I’ve poured a lot of hours into them and can’t wait for IO to release H3 this winter.
Hitman 3 should have a multiplayer gamemode where two players are each other's targets and they must kill each other without getting noticed. You could take disguises, but they made you into an NPC instead of just 47 in a costume. That way you could actually fool your opponent with good acting skills. Maybe a body found would cause you to lose a match. Just a cool idea I had.
Holy sheet this is actually a REALLY cool idea and judging by your description, shouldn't be that hard to implement, albeit needing some increased server budget.
On second thought, there are a few problems with this kind of gameplay addition. Firstly, NPCs tend to walk "slower" than 47 as has been the case for every single Hitman game. They'll have to change the walking speed for that specific game mode and that totally messes with many of the game's mechanics.
Hitman 2's ghost mode is such a missed mark and a damn shame we're gonna have to watch it go in Hitman 3. Having the worlds AI line up between both players worlds in terms of where the targets and NPCS are, hell even how they react to what you do, would have made this mode feel way more dynamic and added actual counterplay between the two parties. Since if you couldn't kill the target and didn't wanna risk a sloppy kill, maybe you could somehow cause a distraction to fuck up your friends kill as well.
I feel like the mode would be way more fun if both if you both got the kill nobody would get the point that way there would be an incentive to just shooting the target after your opponent got the kill because there was just no reason to not give up on the target if you didn't get the kill.
The idea of somehow completely fucking up someone's kill they've been planning by shooting one random guard or throwing a coin is such a missed opportunity.
to me the worst part about this game is that if you own Hitman 1 you can get all the levels for free BUT you can't bring all your progress with you, I actually played the majority of elusive targets of that game and unlocked a bunch of outfits, including the Blood Money and Absolution suits, but I can't bring any of that with me to Hitman 2, not to mention all the time I played getting each and every level to lvl 20 and unlocking all the weapons and gadgets, or if there is a way I wish I knew how, because I love playing with the Blood Money suit
They had Elusive Targets in Hitman 2 and kept them on rotation for a short while later last year. They made the Elusive Target Suit unlocks from Season 1 easier as they made the amount you needed to get the suits a lot lower, I think for Blood Money, you needed about 5-7 Elusive Targets. I'm guessing that you probably got the game late or was busy so you ended up missing out. It sucks that they didn't just make them unlockable without elusive targets. Though, they did make the Paris Christmas level available again for as long as possible, so you can still get Santa 47 at least.

Love hearing from someone with as much love for the Hitman games as I have! Blood Money was my first game and was later inspired to get contracts and loved the 2016 and 2018 games Maybe the Destroy All Humans franchise next?
Can I just say this is my favorite game in the series so far because of the amount of replayability and even after months of not playing the game I will just randomly play it and I will still remember exactly what I need to do and the best strategies. I also really love getting all the weird challenges as they are very creative! I can’t wait for Hitman 3 but I’m not sure if I should get it on PS5 or wait until I build a new PC and get it on there since I want to get a new PC as my old PC is very underpowered and can barely play any newer games. (Btw my favorite new level in Hitman 2 is Haven Island in the DLC and my favorite 2016 level was Sapienza. I guess I just like tropical areas in games)
After Hitman 3 I think it's probably better to think of the entire trilogy as being one absurdly huge game: Hitman: World of Assassination You could even refer to the individual parts as Seasons 1, 2, and 3 or Part 1, 2 and 3. They really do mesh and build off each other and they feel like one coherent game that distinctly evolves after each phase
Miami was my first exposure to Hitman. One of my friends bugged me for YEARS to try this fuggin game... ended up binging the whole series through H3 that year. Such a brilliantly fun series. 11/10 🤘
I just bought Hitman 2 on the 3rd and so far it feels really different, so far i've played all the levels SA the one time and ive 100% NY and Haven island because those 2 maps are just amazing (I thought NY would be my favorite but I much prefer Haven) there are a couple differences which have not come into play like fire extinguishers not killing which would be an issue in say the Lyndon Gyration escalation on 2016 but theres new gadgets like the electrocution phone which make up for that. The big difference is it feels like I have a lot less control over the world in H2 over H1 for example if i want an npc to go somewhere in H1 I can just bump into them, place a coin then throw it or you can just spam G and H with a coin and lead npcs anywhere. In Hitman 2 however bumping most npcs doesn't make them look at you, i've had very little success in using the place and throw exploit but it still is a thing just hard to do. For example to get the trapdoor accident in Haven on Ljudmila id normally just lure her over but I tried that for about 20 mins and couldn't get it so I just gave up and did it the right way by KOing portman and shooting the trapdoor when she was on it. For the Epic 1 year exclusive for H3 before owning H2 I was fine with epic since I don't have any steam games and I pretty much just have the free epic games but after trying Steam with H2 I gotta say Its way better so Ill still get H3 on epic but no way am I sticking with epic after that when Steam just feels so much better
Thank you for making this amazing retrospective series... I really thank you. Hitman 2... silent assassin (!?) was my introduction to PC gaming. Although it came out in 2002, I wouldn't get to play it until 2007. Still, I really enjoyed it and as of now I've played all Hitman games to date. You could say I've been a BIG fan of Hitman and IO Interactive and seeing the direction Hitman is headed to is really amazing and really hits me in the feels. After Absolution, I kinda lost hope and thought my favorite series is dead, but seeing how Hitman 2016 was kinda like a "Blood Money 2", really reinvigorated the hope of having the greatest Hitman experience. Hitman 2 was arguably better although I miss the old cutscenes from 2016. Really looking forward to Hitman 3. Already pre-ordered, and I'll be waiting for a "retrospective" on that once it's released!

I don't know. There is something about the lightning in H2 that turns me off. And 47's suit details are way worse than in the first game, especially on the tie. For some reason.
So, the best way to have a low cost is to buy hitman 2016 with all its dlcs and then hitman 2 when they are on sale and not buy hitman 2 and legacy pack when is on sale? Just gonna say this. Listen during the parties on the levels in Hitman 3 when you finally get there. You remember the election going on in the background of Blood Money? They mention the Presidential winner Frank Morgan(who is related to Ken Morgan Target from the first Season) a few times. Nice little kids and references to the past you and I both can appreciate

All of the different versions of the game at launch is what kept me from buying it. Like, as someone who follows video games, if I don't understand which version to buy that's a huge problem.
9:20 it's been 2 years so you probably know why by now but it isn't an artistic decision. Rather I've heard that it's because Square Enix split with IO Interactive due to the Avengers game. The split led to budget cuts

Glad this game also came with the Hitman 2016 levels. Never got around to getting those. Damn shame Hitman 3 is gonna be an Epic exclusive though. Probably won't be playing that unless it ever gets a steam release.
Just wanted to say I really appreciate the work that went into this series. I adore Hitman and I've played every game going back to my CD copy of Codename 47 so seeing someone go back through the series has been great. the original hitman 2 still my fave...it felt like in the earlier games you actually had to beat the level to progress and shit was hard. now the games are just giant fuck-around simulators. i mean achievement hunting is an understatement...the amount of waiting some levels have to get to the setup point...ive only finished the tutorial and it's about 6 minutes from the woman getting into the house and to the point you can poison her. every level should be around the size of those tutorial levels in the new games and maybe 1 huge level. i get to miami and it says 48 locations in this map...im like...wtf...how is that even possible?

Don't get me wrong Spectrum is garbage, but no game besides Hitman 2 (barely played 2016) has ever given me such connection issues. It's Hitman 2's servers that are terrible beyond redemption. When Fall Guys at launch was a significantly more stable experience you know IOI/WB f'd up big time.
Oh god...it's going to be an Epic exclusive for a YEAR? I always wait for a sale, but still...I can't help but think that's a faux pas. I will never touch any game on Epic store because their security is laughable and the store in general is crap, I got my account hacked by Russians within months of making it and support didn't help me at all. Also the strategy Epic is using is extremely anti consumer, it strips buyers of choice, especially if they don't like Epic specifically or generally want DRM free copies of the game.
I just want to say this for anyone who might be put off by the size of the game. Cvit said the game was nearly 200Gbs, but seems to have gotten smaller over time. I think that might be overblown due to steam wanting you to have more space than you actually need when you download a game to prevent the hard-drive from being overloaded, and possibly some optimisations. I currently have Hitman 2 with every single piece of DLC that exists installed, all of season 1,patient zero, 2, the expansion pass content, all of it. and my total install is 149gb. without the dlc and season 1, it's only about 60gb.

Epic Games has two major advantages. Firstly, they will guarantee you a certain amount in sales. I am not sure how the calculations are done, but they find out the likely sales numbers if the game were on Steam and will give you that money even if the game sells very poorly. This is very important for indie developers and IO Interactive does not have the backing of a full publisher. This is the main reason for the 1 year exclusive Secondly, Epic Games gives a better cut. They charge 12%, less than half of Steam's famous 30% cut of the revenue.
I definitely disagree when it comes to the in-engine cutscenes. To me, the footage in the DLC maps and Hitman 3 look like cringey Gary's mod fan animations.
these new Hitman games for some reason never clicked with me, Diana constantly talking to you is extremely annoying for me, the story was boring and uninteresting, the missions feel way too big and so do the levels, not to mention all the goofy stuff, homing briefcase and others, and for me the series lost its seriousness. And the next game is EGS exclusive? Yeah thats a no go for me.

Doesn't help the silverballers went from "Mastery 3 in Paris" roughly to "level 20 Paris".

Honestly I like this game quite a bit because of how quirky/creative it can be with kills Easter eggs etc.
Its really cool to see a company lose alot and still push through just to put out some of their best stuff.

I'm grabbing Hitman 3 on G2A or CDKeys (eventual Steam release) in order to stick it to IO. What they did was wrong.
So, the best way to have a low cost is to buy hitman 2016 with all its dlcs and then hitman 2 when they are on sale and not buy hitman 2 and legacy pack when is on sale? And buy hitman 1 and its dlcs, hitman 2 and its dlcs when they are on sales then hitman 3 and not buy hitman 3 and hitman 1 and 2 access pack when is on sales?

Just gonna say this. Listen during the parties on the levels in Hitman 3 when you finally get there. You remember the election going on in the background of Blood Money? They mention the Presidential winner Frank Morgan(who is related to Ken Morgan Target from the first Season) a few times. Nice little kids and references to the past you and I both can appreciate

All of the different versions of the game at launch is what kept me from buying it. Like, as someone who follows video games, if I don't understand which version to buy that's a huge problem.
9:20 it's been 2 years so you probably know why by now but it isn't an artistic decision.
Rather I've heard that it's because Square Enix split with IO Interactive due to the Avengers game. The split led to budget cuts

Glad this game also came with the Hitman 2016 levels. Never got around to getting those. Damn shame Hitman 3 is gonna be an Epic exclusive though. Probably won't be playing that unless it ever gets a steam release.
Just wanted to say I really appreciate the work that went into this series. I adore Hitman and I've played every game going back to my CD copy of Codename 47 so seeing someone go back through the series has been great. the original hitman 2 still my fave...it felt like in the earlier games you actually had to beat the level to progress and shit was hard. now the games are just giant fuck-around simulators. i mean achievement hunting is an understatement...the amount of waiting some levels have to get to the setup point...ive only finished the tutorial and it's about 6 minutes from the woman getting into the house and to the point you can poison her. every level should be around the size of those tutorial levels in the new games and maybe 1 huge level. i get to miami and it says 48 locations in this map...im like...wtf...how is that even possible?
Well Miami is really good and diverse with the way the Expo and the race area connects

I still think the soundtracks for Hitman 1 and 2 aren’t as good as the originals, we’ll never get another song like Hunter or the Hitman 2 Main Title in these games, at least I think. Not saying that the songs in Hitman 1 and 2 are bad, just that they’re not as I c o n i c

They’ve seemingly de-aged 47 in Hitman 3. The redesigned face looks much younger. I would’ve loved a iteration of Ghost mode.

Don't get me wrong Spectrum is garbage, but no game besides Hitman 2 (barely played 2016) has ever given me such connection issues. It's Hitman 2's servers that are terrible beyond redemption. When Fall Guys at launch was a significantly more stable experience you know IOI/WB f'd up big time.
Oh god...it's going to be an Epic exclusive for a YEAR? I always wait for a sale, but still...I can't help but think that's a faux pas. I will never touch any game on Epic store because their security is laughable and the store in general is crap, I got my account hacked by Russians within months of making it and support didn't help me at all. Also the strategy Epic is using is extremely anti consumer, it strips buyers of choice, especially if they don't like Epic specifically or generally want DRM free copies of the game.

I just want to say this for anyone who might be put off by the size of the game. Cvit said the game was nearly 200Gbs, but seems to have gotten smaller over time. I think that might be overblown due to steam wanting you to have more space than you actually need when you download a game to prevent the hard-drive from being overloaded, and possibly some optimisations. I currently have Hitman 2 with every single piece of DLC that exists installed, all of season 1,patient zero, 2, the expansion pass content, all of it. and my total install is 149gb. without the dlc and season 1, it's only about 60gb.

Okay, I've got one question to ask:
Why?
Epic Games has two major advantages.
Firstly, they will guarantee you a certain amount in sales. I am not sure how the calculations are done, but they find out the likely sales numbers if the game were on Steam and will give you that money even if the game sells very poorly. This is very important for indie developers and IO Interactive does not have the backing of a full publisher. This is the main reason for the 1 year exclusive
Secondly, Epic Games gives a better cut. They charge 12%, less than half of Steam's famous 30% cut of the revenue.

I definitely disagree when it comes to the in-engine cutscenes. To me, the footage in the DLC maps and Hitman 3 look like cringey Gary's mod fan animations.
these new Hitman games for some reason never clicked with me, Diana constantly talking to you is extremely annoying for me, the story was boring and uninteresting, the missions feel way too big and so do the levels, not to mention all the goofy stuff, homing briefcase and others, and for me the series lost its seriousness. And the next game is EGS exclusive? Yeah thats a no go for me.
