It's a bad understanding and a bad message ported by this video. The action of Nintendo should not have any impact on most of the emulation world. However if this kind of message continue to be ported then yes, it could triggers some fears and bad reactions.
Let's not forget that Yuzu was attacked for having helped the massive use of a game (zelda) when it had not yet been released. The presence of the game's own encryption keys in the emulator before its official release and public communications on the subject, are irrefutable proof of the "hacking" of zelda. Not to mention the fact that the use of encryption keys is also a violation in itself.
So to sum up: emulation of a system that's still widely sold and profitable, use of encryption keys (a licensed security system), distribution of a major game before its release, remuneration of devs: that's a whole lot of legal/strategic errors on the part of Yuzu's authors!
But what's important to underline is that if you don't fall into these ways, emulation remains perfectly legal!
Take the case of older consoles: there are no encryption keys, the games are no longer on the market (so there's no financial loss), there's no need for bios, in short, it's unlikely that you'll be able to make a legal claim under these conditions.
As emulation is legal, the same applies to modern consoles that are still on the market: if you have an open source project that doesn't make money, that doesn't use bios, encryption keys and other licensed elements, then there's no legal risk.
And most emulators fall into this category!
So let's stop dramatizing to make click-through articles and let's stop closing projects that can't be attacked!

Important to note, A judgement trial did not come to happen. Both parties settled out of court. Meaning a conclusion o ruling by a judge was not declared and a precedent has not been set.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but for those who ALREADY have "Yuzu" installed won't future "roms" technically STILL WORK?

Nintendo hurts itself. Go to gamestop. Great Sony games, XBOX games released 1 year ago. Price reduced 25% or more. Trash Switch games released the same time still cost almost exactly the same 5 years later. (understandable on the flagship games but not trash games)

So a few things, their statement about not supporting piracy was clearly written by their attorney. And while I agree that we do what we do in the name of preservation, the problem is the definition of piracy that is used in most legal systems around the world unfortunately includes the likes of us. But I do find it funny that Nintendo is completely ignoring a huge market, I mean the whole reason why emulators are a thing is because people want to play retro games and games from systems that are end of life. And so Nintendo spends a lot of money to go after the makers of emulators and websites that are distributing their content yet they won't make their content available for purchase. thats mind boggling to me.
But with that being said, piracy will always win yes the Yuzu emulator is no longer being developed but be patient someone else will pick up the torch very soon.
