i know what u are going through i just replaced mine 07 dodge charger 3.5 it was drawing 4oo amps from the battary .so put in a new starter now it only draws about 200 amps and starts much faster now too...
nice video, i think i will sit this one out and let the shop handle this one. to much work and do not have the tools for that job. but i liked the video and hope to see more videos.
Awesome video. My sisters 300 is doing the same thing. I changed the plugs(dirty as hell and orginal to the 9 years old car 😂) qnd it seemed to improve but still cranked a lot before starting. I never heard of starter drag. I thought it was a crank no start situation and looked at ignition and fuel etc. but this is a new one to me. I see a starter replacement in my future. Should i get it tested at autozone before buying?
I got a little Pickle here. So I have the 08 chrysler 2.7L When I go to start it I get a click. Lights come on seems like starter. After 5 to 10 tries of click it turns into a bzzz bzzz bzzz like it's trying. Maybe a click again. And then it'll bzz bzzz bzz and turn over kinda rough but it turns on. So I checked the voltage before I tried I had 9v. I even shook the car somewhat. I noticed before I cranked over the voltage rose to like 10.5 Also when I checked the battery it says 10v and I put it on charge and it quickly rose to 11 12 13 volts. However, I noticed the percentage of the battery started at like 9% even while at 13v and slowly rising. Also the temperatures around here have been around 32 Fahrenheit overnight and I rarely use this car so it sits. My question is do I need a starter or do I need a battery. Because this season's budget ain't feeling both purchases. Thank you and happy Christmas to your family.
I can't be for sure, however you are describing a battery or connection issue sounds like to me. I personally would get the battery checked normally a parts house will check it for free. If the battery checks good I would check all my connections paying close attention to grounds. then after all those options have been exausted I would look towards the starter. thanks for the comment maybe this helps.
Yes it could however you could have another problem as well like a bad ground bad relay bad connection broke wire or even a weak battery good luck!👍thanks for the comment
@@ChristmanGarage oh yea I made sure I put a brand new battery in it still same thing and umma check the starter to see if the ground wire not fully connected first before I replace the starter
My car makes similar sound . 2 years ago I got my starter replaced n the guy who did it forgot to shim it n it’s been starting like this since .n now it’s bad sometimes it won’t even start . Is it the starter or flywheel ??
Hard to tell without putting my eyes on it but I have heard some really bad sounds come from starters and I thought for sure the flywheel was torn up but it turned out ok just a bad starter. I have had bad luck with starters from advance and autozone I like the optima starters from o reillys
Just a “click” can be a lot of things but normally it’s a weak battery a bad connection or a bad solenoid it could also be something else in the starter. That’s saying the engine isn’t locked up. Without actually looking at it and troubleshooting I would start with checking battery terminals and grounds👍 maybe this helps! Thanks for the comment👍
@@ChristmanGarage thanks I checked the terminals, grounds and had the battery tested at Autozone that's all good, I just purchased an ignition actuator pin I'm going to install that and see if it works, also the engine isn't locked it was but I used marvel mystery oil and spun the harmonic balancer multiple times I marked it with a yellow marker and counted the rotations of the crankshaft.
@@ChristmanGarage figured it out the idiots at the shop never connected the power wire to the starter I did today but now the starter just spins doesn’t contact the flywheel so back to the shop the have them refund me my money or something
Nice video, I got new starter last year but last week my car did similar issue so I assume its not oem starter. Ive done less than 2k miles with the new starter since last year. But I will check the ground as well.
I would put money on the starter this was the second starter on this car I think the parts houses maybe had a bad batch of them👍 thanks for the comment and hope you get it figured out👍
@@ChristmanGarage Yes i suspect is my starter again but this time I will buy from a dealer so it last longer. I got 2006 300c srt8 so i assume is the same location is the one you have there right? I dont have a lift so im planning to do it with a jack and stands.
I knew this was going to be an excellent tutorial when I heard the man say " Bat Tree". lol Thanks so much this helped me tremendously!

Country ass hell. 🤣🤣🤣I love it! Great job bro.
🤣glad you enjoyed! Thanks for the comment🤣
I knew it was gonna be a great video! When it is had the same issue my 3hunded has 💪🏼

I wish you had of shown how to get that steering knuckle off. I can figure it out.

Yeah a little tricky but not too bad glad you enjoyed the video👍
@Alexis Lawrence Thanks 👍
@Colt Angelo never knew about it. Will give it a try
Great video. How long did the whole job take, taking out the old and putting in the new? Much appreciated.
Maybe little over an hour, thanks for the comment👍

These starters are notorious for failing, thanks for sharing👍
Did he say “Bat tree”?
Must be where my mother in law sleeps
👍😂😂
😂😂😂😂
Lmfao 😂😂😂😂
Did u check the starter relay first?
Checked the relay however the relay wasn’t causing the “dragging” that we were experiencing starter had “gone to the bad” 👍. Thanks for the comment 😀
O’Riley gives you lifetime warranty on starters, alternators so you can do it again in the summer for free
Done that before😂👍
Exact way I just did one. Good video. Great job.

Did you use shims on the new starter
Just bolted her up and she worked really nice no shims👍 thanks for the comment!
@@ChristmanGarage you didn’t used the old shims… did you use washer on the bolts
@@iamsolodolo1989 this starter didn’t require any shims 👍

I had a new O'Reilly starter put in my car and it only worked for 5 days
I had the shop replace my starter same engine but when I put the key in and turn it it only clicks no crank, does anyone know what it could be ?

@@ace716_westside thanks for the update good luck👍
@ACE716_westside glad you finally found the issue! I have the same pesky problem and now I know what to look out for.
Did you put the dust cover back on the starter
Yes its more like a heat shield it needs that to protect it from the exhaust👍
Do the cables go on the same terminal?
Care for some gopher?
Also I can even jump start it from starter relay pin
If you can jump start it from the starter solenoid odds are it’s not the starter you have a problem somewhere else
Man your videos are great lol
Thanks👍glad you enjoy them thanks for the comment
skip to 3:50 for starter replacement
