    Looking at this in January 2022 and Liz Truss Brexit Minister and all the footage of her gaffs is a very sad reflection on the the current state of ` UK` politics and society in a very predictable post Brexit Brittan.

    Now about the chronic underfunding and inefficiency of the Justice System that Lizzy swore to ensure would not happen- - - -
    And the attempts by the government in which she served to reduce the power and independence of the Judiciary to oversee ministerial powers?

    • @hamish7972

      Ok, so basically the main parliament (like Theresa May and the rest of the MPs) debate laws & topics and whatnot, then if a decision is made in the parliament, it then goes to the House of Lords (what this video is of) to re-debate it (I think) and challenge the decisions that the main parliament make. So basically if a Bill is proposed, it has to go through the House of Commons, then House of Lords, and then it's implemented.

    • @theylied1776
      @theylied1776 7 років тому +1

      Hamish That is extremely complicated?

    • @hamish7972
      @hamish7972 7 років тому +1

      theylied1776 Yes it is, however I think Lords are appointed by the monarch/HoL Appointment Commission rather than elected so i'm guessing they are more trustworthy (don't quote me on that). I also think it's because the UK used to be much more Christian and the House of Lords were introduced by a very religious Britain, and it just has kind of just managed to stick. (that's just me presuming with my knowledge of history :P)

      @brianevans1776 7 років тому +6

      No she swears allegiance to the queen as do all MPs, Ministers and Judges. Parliament asks the queen to swear allegiance to God (and the Christian gospel). That way the people of this nation are under God and the government is the servant of the people.

    How could she become a lord if she is woman? When I checked last time women are ladies not lords.

    • @joycerouget2379
      @joycerouget2379 4 роки тому +2

      Filip Mirić A simple example is her majesty Queen Elizabeth the second, she is Duke of Lancaster and not Duchess.
      Because *aristocratic* titles can’t be given to female then they got males aristocratic titles.
      Woman (in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) only gets their female *aristocratic* titles by marriage contract. Princess Margaret was know as Lady Snowdon after her marriage. before she was know as Princess Margaret of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
      ( a gift from her sister, her majesty the Queen. )
      Maria Theresa was king of Hungary and not Queen because queen could not be rulers so she got the male title.
      Everybody knows that they are women but to hold their positions the only way is to get the male title.

    • @hmrobert7016

      She is personally not a lord. Her office holds the title of Lord Chancellor, not her personally. Illogical? Perhaps, especially since Black Rod is now a Lady Usher, but it’s all arbitrary anyway.

    Why do they wear wigs
    I find it a little odd

    • @openmind4641
      @openmind4641 7 років тому +3

      They wear wigs, because they are so lukewarm they need additional insulation to maintain a normal body temperature. Or because of the traditional dress of the 1600s and they haven't changed with the times.
