Thank you for showing the delivery and happy couple at the end. It is helpful to see that to keep in mind why I am building a shop. We aren't just making stuff, we are making a difference in people's homes and dare I say, lives.
Evan Rupert , Alas I can only like this once! It was the EXACT sentiment I was feeling as the video came to a close. As another commenter mentioned, it gave me warm fuzzies and motivation to remember other people's needs/wants as well that this craft can fulfill!
Chris Neithardt Thanks Chris! Deep down inside, I'm a nerd and I like to show it. By the way, thank you for bringing the dB levels of my intro music to my attention. It was simply neglect on my part and I've made the change so that future videos won't have blown out sound.
Absolutely love this table! At first I wasn't sure about the painted legs, but I love how it draws your attention to top so much it almost looks like it's floating. And is a perfect fit in their home.
Believe me, I thought the same thing. I was nervous about the entire finishing project, in general. It definitely isn't one of my strengths. I'm still learning.
I got a bit of a chill when I saw you guys sit down at the table for the first time ... nice finish. Nice shine on the top too. Table is ready for some dings and scratches for some added character.
That's a very special gift. They will always think of you when sharing a meal. I hope it holds up when the kids come along. Kids are torture on furniture. I know from experience.
Well done! At first I was skeptical of the mix of yellow pine with cherry, however the results speak for themselves. Lived in Athens for 20 years, miss North Alabama!
A tostitos fan are you,we need to get up up to chicago for some amazing salsa:). Great finished product, I love it when you deliver a piece to a friend or a customer and the look of joy on their faces.
Haha! We've switched to Kroger's Private Selections Corn Salsa. Haha! I really wanted to capture me delivering the trestle table. It was such an amazing feeling. Thank you for watching!
I do like salsa. I also like Classico pasta sauce. I save all the glass jars from cooking products because they are a lot cheaper than buying mason jars. Thank you. I'm happy the color of the Cherry evened out after applying the BLO. Made a huge difference.
Thank you, Darren! I'm continually learning so my hope is that as I get better at woodworking and producing content, the videos will also get better. Thank you for watching.
Damo Vegan It truly is worth the effort. It took me a while to figure this out. I always used to rush this part of the build. I'm learning. 😊 Thanks for watching!
Nice work. I really like how you explain what u do and why. I suggest you get a branding iron for your makers mark. Well made furniture should reference its maker. Congrats.
Enjoyed the entire series! You provided a very good description of the process and it was neat seeing the table delivered to a nice couple. Had to subscribe to see more of your video work. Great project.
Thank you so much for watching! I hope to continue these type of build series. I think you'll like my other build series. Thank you for following along.
Great looking project and the finish is first rate. I am wondering if the slots in the mounting brackets should be going in the cross direction. I don't think it will expand much in the length.
Sid Matheny Thank you Sidney! You're right, it won't expand along the length. However, the washer is installed properly. As the top expands and the washer rotates staying the same axial location, the screw needs to move in the x-direction or else it will yank on the threaded insert. Think of the hypotenuse of a right triangle increasing/decreasing in length as the vertex angle increases/decreases.
just a question, and perhaps someone else has already asked, and I didn't see it. But aren't the slots on your hardware running the wrong directions. I.e. wood expands and contracts in width or thickness but not so much in length. It seems yours are attached in such a way as to allow for lineal expansion / contraction. Is there a reason you did it this way? Great looking table!
Good question, and yes, someone did ask this question. The skirt washers are design to also rotate/pivot. As the wood expands and contracts the washer rotates and the screw elongated portion of the washer becomes the hypotenuse of a triangle. "Figure 8s" do the same thing by rotating within a countersunk portion within a tables skirt. These skirt washers (by FastCap) are specifically designed to be installed in any orientation. They are a great product.
Great work, man. Thanks for sharing. Are you a full time woodworker or part time? I’m curious because I would think you’d have to charge an arm and a leg to make a table with that amount of detail, but most folks would just assume get something from Ikea. Tough market that makes it hard for full time woodworkers.
I spend about 8-10 hours a week in the shop. During the week I get an hour here and there and also a few 30 minute spurts. On the weekends, I spend a solid 4-6 hours in the shop. I started this project on April 5th and I finished the table yesterday. I would estimate I spent 35-40 hours on this project. However, there is one caveat...I film the entire build and I spend a lot of time (and I mean a lot of time) shooting multiple takes of me fumbling with words. I hope this gives you a reasonable idea of the time dedicated to this build.
Huy, the quality of your presentations are second to none. The table design and build were excellent. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching, Mike! Thank you for the kind words.
Thank you for showing the delivery and happy couple at the end. It is helpful to see that to keep in mind why I am building a shop. We aren't just making stuff, we are making a difference in people's homes and dare I say, lives.
Evan Rupert I completely agree. It's much more rewarding to build for others.
Evan Rupert , Alas I can only like this once! It was the EXACT sentiment I was feeling as the video came to a close. As another commenter mentioned, it gave me warm fuzzies and motivation to remember other people's needs/wants as well that this craft can fulfill!
Very nicely done! This table should serve them well for many, many years. Thanks for the video!
Thank you! They are a great couple.
Your friends looked very pleased. Great attention to detail. Great job as usual !
Thank you, Fernando! Thank you for watching.
Loving the Octopi shirt haha. Excellent table and walk-through of the build. Keep it up.
Chris Neithardt Thanks Chris! Deep down inside, I'm a nerd and I like to show it. By the way, thank you for bringing the dB levels of my intro music to my attention. It was simply neglect on my part and I've made the change so that future videos won't have blown out sound.
That is one nice looking table Huy! I am sure the newlyweds will enjoy it for a long time. Steve
Thank you, Steve! Means a lot coming from you.
Really love the cherry top on the black legs. Great work Huy!
Thanks, Guy! It was a blast to build. Thank you for your mentorship.

The smiles say it all. Nice job.
They were very pleased.

It sure is ready for some dings. Kids, dogs, parties....a lifetime to age.
the series was awesome, would love to see more furniture builds like this one.
Hopefully, I'll be uploading more build videos like this series. Thank you for watching!
That's a very special gift. They will always think of you when sharing a meal. I hope it holds up when the kids come along. Kids are torture on furniture. I know from experience.
Haha! So true! I might be doing repairs in the future. Thank you for watching, Kevin.

Man, I love this state! Roll Tide!
Man that turned out real nice, bet your friends loved it.
They did love it! Thank you for watching.
Nice job. I love the look of cherry.
I love Cherry as well. The color really evened out once I applied the oil finish and shellac.
Like the finish choices, beautiful contrast.
Thank you, David! Admittedly, the choosing the lumber for the table top and figuring out the finish were the hardest part of this project.
Awesome table, love your attention to every single detail, great work and videos buddy
Rob S Thank you, Rob.

The multiple steps taken in the prep and finish of the top were certainly worth the time and effort. Very nice.

I'm an aerospace engineer. Woodworking is a hobby and a side business.
Ahh. It all makes sense now. Again, great work and thanks for sharing and responding!
How much time do you think you put into this project?
