    As a former indy ref, I love hearing these referee lore stories. A while back, Bill Behrens posted an NWA referee rule book that said in tag team matches, teams were only allowed to interrupt one pinfall and any subsequent breakups would be a disqualification. Wish that was still enforced. It would make those breakups more dramatic.

    I have always wondered this question. The first time I saw it was Starcade '97 with Sting Vs Hogan. Sting put Hogan in the Scorpion Deathlock, and Hogan reached the bottom rope. He held onto it, and Sting was actually pointing at Hogan's hand. The ref counted 5 to Hogan, then he kicked his hand to make him let go. It happened again at Superbrawl '98 as well.

    a good example of this was during one of my favourite match, triple h and stone cold against Jericho and Benoit. Hunter was cheating like a bloody bastard from the beginning and at a point got Benoit in a stretch hold and grabbed the rope to keep his balance, the referee noticed it and warned him but Hunter kept garbing the rope so the referee finally kicks his hand, Benoit counters him and get to tag Jericho, it got a massive pop and lead into a great hot tag.

    I'll tell you a spot that doesn't make sense, and its happened so much over the last 20 years, its getting old and predictable. Why does there just HAPPEN to be multiple tables and chairs underneath the ring? In the old days, it probably made sense because there was going to be a "match signing" in the ring later in the show, and they needed a table handy for the signing. But now there just sitting there, strategic placed by the ring crew for the spot where the wrestler knows right where to find their toys! But now its gotten ridiculous where, last time on AEW, Chris Jericho's barbed wire covered baseball bat just happened to be there! Now its moved on to more sophisticated things under the ring than just tables and chairs!

    • @mecha2001
      @mecha2001 2 роки тому +1

      I think that became more prevalent with the rise of ECW and Russo booking WWF in late 90s adopting more "hardcore" wrestling, hence the presence of "toys" under the ring. what Cornette speaks of with Attitude Era is that they raised the bar with all the outrageous things they could implement into wrestling there would be no way to ever match it again. here we are almost 20 years later. early-mid 2000s the wrestling was vastly better because they still had workers that adhered to wrestling logic. another generation or two removed they just do wrestling like the old SmackDown games on PS2. that's why I don't watch wrestling anymore. Samoan dudes doing 20 superkicks or Young Bucks literally doing 100 superkicks in a row. it's played out.

    • @henrygvidonas9573
      @henrygvidonas9573 2 роки тому +1

      Jim has talked about this many times. There should only be "foreign objects" to be found under the ring that have a logical reason to be there. Like a toolbox with equipment that the ring crew uses to set up the ring, that's going to be needed when they disassemble it right after the show is over.
      On a related note, why are the babyfaces so damn stupid? Heels have been pulling out weapons like kendo sticks and baseball bats from under the ring, that they apparently regularly place there before the matches, for decades now. Why wouldn't a babyface insist on having the space under the ring checked by the officials before an important match? Are they just too dumb to live?
      And if they don't check that space, why wouldn't a particularly dastardly eeevil heel who has vowed to send the babyface to the morgue place a katana or a sawed-off shotgun there? It's not like the heel is there to win a wrestling match with a nice submission hold, he's there to kill the babyface. He said so in his promo last week! The one that the idiotic babyface answered with a promo of his own, so he knows what's coming... My head is starting to ache.
      Or Mr. Heel could just shoot the babyface in the motel car park or do a drive-by hit with the shotgun when Mr. Smiley-Smile stops at a red light, like everybody else in America does. Or... Whatever!
      It's almost as if pro wrestling instantly becomes dumb as dogshit when you don't portray it like a real combat sport.

    • @henrygvidonas9573
      @henrygvidonas9573 2 роки тому +1

      The songs are on the full-length audio versions of the podcast on other platforms. Practically all of the songs are cover versions with changed lyrics. Putting them on UA-cam would lead to tons and tons of copyright claims. Mostly unjustified ones because singing a song with completely changed lyrics for satirical or parodic purposes is definitely covered by fair use, since writing a completely new set of lyrics is a significant transformative effort, as required by 17 U.S.C. § 107.
      I'm not going into this any deeper, or I'll start ranting about how UA-cam blatantly allows certain rightholder companies to screw with small UA-cam creators' livelihoods through the abuse of the notification system of the platform.

    McIntyre was in the ring scarlet comes out to I guess fight McIntyre the Ouso's attack McIntyre from behind Cross is nowhere
    So either Cross and scarlet are in on it with the Ouso's
    Or scarlet was going to fight McIntyre
    Or Cross is scared of the Ouso's
    What happen and what am I missing seriously
    Side note moss came to help McIntyre who he tried to kill a few months ago
    It was supposed to be a tag match but he had no partner I guess so moss just had to come out
    WTF

    Earl Hebner did this a lot and it always pissed me off. A ref should never put their hands on a wrestler.

    No, the rule is that you can't REACH to the ropes for a break. If your body incidentally breaks the plane of the ropes, it's a legal break (think Flair's lazy leg dropped on the bottom rope at the two count as he would often do when being pinned). Though it is barely enforced anymore, if a wrestler has to REACH to the rope, it does not require a break and the ref is more than allowed to remove the offenders hands from said rope.

      That's not how WWF applied it. Maybe other promotions did.
