As an elderly folk, grandma in fact, l can attest to how handy this pistol grip saw is. We're taking down dead ash. My husband does the main trunk and larger branches. I cut the tops. I'm done before he has his big stuff hauled to the sawmill. 😂 I grinned thru the entire video. Thanks August.
I just turned 74 and I love my GTA 26. The first thing I did was take the guard off. It was a pain, got in my way all the time. Love your videos, watch them all the time. Keep up the good work.
That was great to watch. I have two of those mini saws, I love them. Mostly cause the wife and kids aren't scared to use them, like they are with my gas saw. And I love pawning work off on them 😂
We have one of these saws. We love it for pruning ash trees and any type of small medium Pruning. Saves the shoulder big time. Use it all the time in the bucket with maples ect. Handy saw for sure !
Hey August, Thanks for taking us along on that adventure! It did look like a fun atypical day, doing what you love, with a twist. Brandon is getting a great harness! Awesome work by Sam with the customized layout! I was really lking the custom Bible verse Harness you showed a while back. When I do get a MB 2.0 I'm hoping to get one like that. I've still got to get a few of the basics first though, Like an Arborist style helmet. I've managed to make a few videos now too! You're an inspiration! Thank you OG MB!
Who's better at creating content specifically for " my friends " in mind, up a tree, all along community with " my friends " as if we were there...August is funny, a class a smart ellick ( that's a good thing ) and the simple thought of sharing his love of tree work with all the compassion, professionalism and talent second to NONE! I'm at 13:02 of this video and these are the things I find myself thinking....there's just no one like August Hunicke!!
You're going laugh but my 96 yr old mother has one of these that she uses for pruning around the yard. That little guard is supposedly a kick back protector for people like her that have limited arm strength. I'm impressed with how long the battery is lasting on that little pup...guess I'll have to try hers out for doo doo and giggles too:)
My wife wanted this Stihl because her mother has one. I couldn't bring myself to buy one so I got her the DeWalt 20V chainsaw. It's big enough to do some work but light and quiet enough that she likes using it.
The company I work for just got finished testing a 2 battery version of that saw for stihl. We loved testing it and actually tried swapping out our handsaws for it lol
I Almost bought one when they first came out but I really did not want another battery platform. When Milwaukee came out with one for their 12v batteries I bought one. The thing is so handy most of the time it rides on the back of the compact tractor. I continually have limbs falling that I cannot break up for the fire pile. The saw is designed for 2 inch but I "may" have cut much larger limbs. Saws this size are no joke and need to be given respect.
I grinned all the way through this. I kept seeing a dad who had to tryout his kid’s new toy before he wrapped it for Christmas morning and then deciding, nope, keeping it for myself. Gotta go get him something else. 👊😎
I bought the el cheapo no name version some time ago purely for pruning low branches while standing at ground level , 8" bar , manual oiling like the Stihl . It came with two 1Ah batteries but what I like is that the batteries are the same as Makita and I have two 5Ah of those . It's the baby of my chainsaw stable but it has its place , horses for courses . Stihl sell a 3mm round file , needed for sharpening these small chains . The Scooby Doo harness looks great , Brandon will be happy to get his hands on that , I like the rope keg too , quality gear 🙂
I am so glad for you didn´t have to cut all of that top with the handsaw :P Was fun to see the little thing go though! Nice video in between production work, thanks.
August, that was actually impressive for a saw like that. I will add that you being experienced with proper cutting had to have helped..... 😉 Thanks for taking us along and keep yourself safe! 😃👍❤🌲 Randy
Grand theft auto was the first thing I saw 🤣. I haven't finished watching But I hope we get the entire crews reaction. You should call the new saw Scrappy-do . That was a great video and thanks for the scan from your office window.👍
We use these at my company for fruit tree pruning in the winter. We also immediately take off the guard. They are fairly handy when you would otherwise be making a lot of handsaw cuts
I have a GTA 026 saw with two batteries for small jobs around the house. I live in Florida so the batteries overheat quickly and stop. Swapping the batteries lets it cool and it starts working again. I also bought a 36volt little hand saw, similar build to the GTA 026, which does a much better job, but still has its place.
A college of mine uses this Milwaukee M12 hatchet it has just that more oempwhf and the blade is on the correct side and also gives bar oil like normal.. very handy, these new small battery saws, specially for small deadwood hunting this stihl one seems a bit iffy to me, design wise nice edit and talk as per usual thanks
Love your videos, August There is a small 18v makita that is really pretty good. (xcuo6) I have topped 70'fir trees with it You can't force it tho, exactly. They only have so much juice, but sooo light, and better than that tiny stihl for topping (although a bit bigger) Put your panther bar on there and bam
I used my father in-law's Milwaukee version of this to trim around the house and take down a small troublesome fir. For $270 I for sure am considering one. It has a bar oil tank as well just as a normal saw.
I topped my first tree today near Dallas, OR. Maybe 100 feet to the berries, not high enough the Yellowjackets couldn't find me though. They were very curious about everything I was doing.
Wish to have one of your harness someday.. I'm a tree guy here in Davao city Philippines and most of my equipment is my handmade coz I can afford to buy one but someday if I have money I will buy one of those thing..
I have been loving my 151 top handle saw lately with a little carving bar. It fits right in the bucket with me my buddy had one for carving and said it boiled gas but I don’t run full throttle tank after check while I’m trimming. also I have thought about your harnesses, can you make one and all black with the board?
Enjoyed the video. Certainly is out of the norm. But, in the words of Schultz from Hogan Heroes....it is very interesting! Thanks for sharing. (You should try the Echo 2500T electric chainsaw. Lightweight, well balanced and batteries last. Great for limbing..)
August I love this content! I wish the videos u have that ur giving instruction were quite like this. No chipper running and gas saw running. Would u make more like this one with tips about rope placement etc with the quite back drop??
Hey August :) cool video :) what do you think to the technique where you do a bore into the middle of the hinge from the face side? Of course you leave the hinge a bit thicker to compensate for the reduced volume of wood. It's used here in the Uk when you have a tree over double the bar length...I know get a bigger saw! But seriously though it would've worked in that scenario up there.
I recently got the same Opsal climber pads you're using and I'm unsure how to fit them, mostly with where they should sit on my leg. You seem to run your pads a bit lower than most, would you mind explaining how to properly fit pads?
Lino- but the battery power will reduce the pain that is inevitable for your later years, my knuckles are so fragged from abuse over the years makes picking up the coffee pot hard Every morning. Protect while you can, will be better later in life. 😊
What is the best way for someone interested in getting into tree work? I've taken a few trees down already but without climbing them. I live in Missouri and would love to learn. Any info would be amazing on where i should start.
serious question i have not looked yet for the price do you think it would be a good little saw to take camping to you around camp ? thanks love the videos
Hmm, missing roaring sound of actual chainsaw. Next time you can try cut whole tree with MS 500i, just for fun :-) Or if you felt in love with this miniscule saw, you can try BOSCH Keo next time :-)
I'm a firm believer that every tool has it's place and purpose. You stated pretty much the same thing. The first thing that comes to mind whenever Scooby Doo is mentioned, is Ruh ROH. I don't think that would be appropriate on a climbing harness though. Not that I'm superstitious.
I thought for sure you bought that saw off “Temu” and is based off revolutionary new military technology. And then… it said Stihl on the side and I laughed harder!
Brandon, not Braden. 😬
Let's go Brandon!😅😂

I got the weirdest feeling that the tree top thanked you as it groaned going over. Like, finally... I can rest in peace. My spirit is released. 😊
You limbed and top this whole phone with that baby Stihl. Insane! Love it!
I thought I would hate this video, but you turned it into a show I really enjoyed. Thank you for all your content and for all you do.
I second that 😂

battery saws are really good for keeping besides the chipper when you need a saw for quick cuts
I Almost bought one when they first came out but I really did not want another battery platform. When Milwaukee came out with one for their 12v batteries I bought one. Liked seeing the scenery at the end.
Nice little saw for around the house pruning and brush cutting
I have that saw over 2 years isn't bad but with need little more power also the batteries don't last long in a charge.
Awesome saddle design

Good fun August. Thanks for sharing. Makita do one similar with an oiler on board. There are lots of them out there now. 👍

Howdy August, the STIHL GTA 26 a true West-coast saw. Have A Day! ;~)

My vote is also for the 12 volt Milwaukee. I love it but it does get a little grabby when you're cutting with the top of the bar
What’s up August 🤠👍👌🤙💯🏋️♂️💪Nice 😊mate
How would that do on carving the turkey at Thanksgiving? Of course you'd have to be careful about the bar oil used

The bar oil is for Ken’s hair, the saw is for Barbie to do whatever she sees fit 👀
I really like your idea of removing the guard.. Have you ever wanted it back on?
No
I like the Milwaukee hatchet better more battery capacity, bar oil tank, and a longer bar
August , have you ever tested ropes from China ? Like MDSN , what do you think about their C E report ?
Nope
Honestly, this seems like it has more power than my buddy's 261, and it oils about as good.
How about battery life? I read the 25 minute promise is closer to 15?
the wood chips are HUGE hahaahah
If I remember correctly, you manually oil the chain on that.
I use mine for everything only yesterday I was cutting poly pipe with it.
