The Godfather Lost Episodes (YOU'VE NEVER SEEN THIS)
While shooting Apocalypse Now in the Philippines, Coppola was running out of cash and needed help financing the project. He turned to Paramount, who suggested that instead of simply airing The Godfather Part II on NBC, Coppola could instead make his Saga cut (combining both films) and NBC would be forced to pay more for the two films combined than they would have for just the sequel.
Coppola agreed. Approximately 90 hours of footage was sent over to Barry Malkin in LA with the instructions to "make it work".
the killing of fabrizio with the sawed off shotgun would be an awesome ending death scene, he shouldn't cut that off
Coppola is now in his 80's. As a lasting legacy I would love for him to commission a restored and full directors cut "Godfather Saga" restoring the cut scenes and fill out the story line.
A man can dream..
Coppola has said that the deleted scenes have since deteriorated and “extensive restoration would be necessary” for them to be included in a director’s cut.
Translation-When Robert Evans (and now Paramount) pays me what they still owe me I’ll do the restoration
The only wish in my life more than winning the millions lottery is..... watching the 9 hour Godfather movie, that would be my objective in life!!!!!
Then do it
@@kumarg3598 if I have it, I am referring to video mentioned in this video. It is not in the market.

Withholding the full cut is not the act of a friend. He must share them. We'll gladly crowdfund... After all, we're not Communists. 😊
Epic Comment!.. Now we know it was Coppola all along..You mean Robert Evans..Robert Evans is a pimp he couldn't outfight us to crowdfund that full cut...😄
This is terrific work. Thank you for explaining it all and for the various photos. I'm older, saw GF1 in a theater when it was first released. I too needed to see this. I'll likely be forever sorry that I will never see this footage as a "moving picture". Thank you again.
I appreciate this info. No idea Michael was supposed to be years older in that last scene and that GF 2 was supposed to go to 1972. I disagree with your take on the books. I enjoyed them.
@@kendavis9822 Excuse me but would you please show us where I said I did not enjoy the books? I read the original Mario Puzo book, enjoyed it and do not recall saying that I did not... thank you for clarifying.
@@lawrenceel5321 Sorry - was actually referring to the individual who posted the video. He didn’t like the Weingartner books. I did.

Best movie series....EVER! Lots of wisdom in it, too, like 'keep your friends close but keep your enemies closer'...
How can’t I watch this damn thing in the 21st century, you’d think it’d be available somewhere
I saw a soft covered version of The Godfather novel in the library when I was a teenager, that had a dozen pictures in the middle of the book. One of them showed Michael, with the white hat, firing the shotgun. Even though I vaguely remember seeing the scene, all of these years, I thought I might have imagined the photo. I also vaguely remember seeing Paulie Gatto's guys beat up Bonnesera's daughter's attackers. And I vaguely remember Don Corleone's friend asking him for a five hundred dollar loan, as he did in the book, at Connie's wedding. Could I have imagined all of these scenes? Thanks for confirming that Michael really did wear a white hat and fire a shotgun. Where is the actual footage?
I have that softcover copy. Never knew where the shotgun and white fedora scene was supposed to be from until I saw this. And like you, I don't remember if I've seen those other scenes or just have a vivid recollection from reading it in the book.
@@keithrunfola Is it possible that an epic novel version was shown on TV once, before they combined the first two films to make the epic, that included these scenes? And if so, why don't they exist, anywhere else? I saw a photo recently, that looked like it would have been a scene from the film, of Michael and Sonny, in which Michael was wearing his marine uniform. No scenes of the two of them, interacting one on one, at Connie's wedding or later in the evening, exist anywhere, even in the book. I guess you can't paste an image into a UA-cam comment but google "James Caan" "Al Pacino" "uniform."
The Fabrizio assassination was actually filmed in both NY and in Sicily. The shot of Michael entering the pizzeria was shot in NY on the last day of location shooting. The interior scene was completed in a Sicilian pizzeria, but because Coppola didn't have A.D. Flowers and his special effects crew, the shooting was sloppily "executed," and not up to the quality of the violence in the other scenes. In fact, it was unusable. As to Paulie beating up the rapists of Bonasera's daughter, I had never heard of them shooting that scene (it's very descriptive in the novel - the names of the rapists are Coonan and Moonjam). If it was filmed, that would be the holy grail of all Godfather lost scenes.
Wow. Good description!
Wow. Good description!
I'm pretty sure the original death could have been edited perfectly regardless of how sloppy it was
Fabricio's death in gf2 is utter perfection.
Michael is given a picture
" Ahhh Fabricio " he said.
Michael completely forgot about him.
He was sitting on a couch while Neri is standing above him. Coppola emphasized that in the script. He wanted you to know that Michael was not angry , sad or inraged.
He has a look on his face of a man who has been reminded of what he had done ..... chased a young girl in the middle of the mafia war, conned her into marrying him at the hight of the danger and killed her with the wedding.
" It took so long " he said. Years passed by even though Michael was bigger than Roman empire. After he killed all the families he owned NY and beyond yet somehow needed a lot of time to find punk with no power.
Miserable look on his face after Neri told him that Fabricio has children and wife.
He hesitated. In a script he put the pictures on the table and said "later"..
And moved on with his night.
Connie comes in to tell Michael that she is getting married
" Ink on your divorce hasn't dried yet"...
No self awareness what so ever.
Michael doesn't even have quilty conciences over her death.
He always has to be reminded that she existed and than moves on with no problem.
In the end he killed him for safety of his family. Coppola showed that through timeline and in opening credits.
All opposite from Kay...
After she told him about abortion he turned himself into a savage animal. He is walking up and down the boat house, eating orange like an apple. He is full of rage and he found Roth in a record time even though he wasn't in the country. He paid millions to get him into country and killed him in front of IRS and FBI agents at the lowest point of Corleone family power while he himself was under watchful eye of the government.
There was no hesitation about killing his own brother.
Dam that so sucks that, that scene was cut out.
I've always wanted to see more of the rise of the young Don Vito...could it ever be released? And also Michaels story continuing after Fredo's murder into the 1970's? Why didn't they release it all uncut like they did with the chronological mini series version. FF Copolla owes it GF fans.
Be honest and think about what we've been given. Copolla owes us nothing and you know it.
@@MikeGervasi You are correct. I do wonder if that footage is out there somewhere.
I have seen it in the 80's in French language version and it was very good but never heard of it since. I will contact Tele-Quebec to see if they still have it in their archives.
goddamn canadians , good for you pal.
That 6 hour Godfather 2 would be a joy to watch
Why not release the extended version! I'd buy it!
yes! if he'd bother to redo the third movie...that whole CODA edition, why not just do THIS with the first two movies, which the fans actually would want...?

All i know is that there's lots of footage in ALL 3 films.
Why can’t Coppola just do a a special edition of all the 3 GodFather films 🎥 and add all the deleted scenes and footage? I know it would be a very exhausting process but just do it for the fans F.F. Coppola.
cutting masterpieces so they can fit movie format?
good old times
now they make 4 hour edit of justice league and it's supposed to be great
This seems to have been a more accurate portrait of an older actual Michael, instead of what we ended up getting in part III. Part III pains me to this date. WHY!? I😢
I watched Part III for the first time last week and I love it. Andy Garcia's performance was soo good, he steals every scene. I made my own edit of the movie where I cut out the vatican scenes, some hospital scenes, and the assassinations at the end and it's so much better
@@Damidas I agree I think Andy Garcia played an awesome character. And there were some elegant elements in it. My main issue was actually Al Pacino and his version of an old Michael. Whereas Michael in I & Ii was cool, calm, quiet and calculated well, this Michael just wasn't. Just not the Michael I had been coveting to see back. 😔
Andy Garcia's performance was paint dry, one of the least intimidating mobsters you'll ever see. Hence he's been in virtually nothing of any great significance since.

I'm glad I read the book before seeing the movie. That gave me more insight into what was going on on the screen. I would have loved to see the punks that raped Bonasera's daughter get theirs
Yes, but what about the footage itself? That’s what I was expecting. I know it was cut originally, but is there a source out there to access it? Extras on a DVD perhaps?
WE NEED THIS
I have heard that there is a long scene between Sonny and Tom when the latter returns from the hospital with Michael. Would love to see that. Sad that so many of Sonny's scenes were deleted.
At the end we see Michael walking with 18 year old Anthony- in the wooded area. It was Steve where Anthony says he wants nothing to do with family business and leaves. Michael sits alone and contemplates. I want to watch that scene.
You did a very good job!!!

Could you give the sources?
Hey why don't you make the letters even smaller and let them show for half the time? Who thinks of this?
Are these scenes in the book?
Ending was beautiful.
In the book, there’s an old Italian man who begs Don Corleone to save him from death, he believes that The Don has supernatural powers and can prevent his physical death in the man’s old age. It’s just over the top and Puzo should have edited that from his book.
Genco
@@nicholasmichelangelo Yes. It's Genco Abbandando, Vito's old friend and Consiglieri. And he's literally on his deathbed. When he asks Vito to stay beside him he ends it off with "We'll outwit that bastard [Death] as we outwitted all those others." So no, he doesnt actually believe Vito to have supernatural powers - he's joking around. The scene isnt a show of superstition as much as it shows Genco's respect for and the bond between him and Vito.
I get the subtle impression you didn't like Winegardner's s books... At least they made it to print. Would have been nice to get a concise book trilogy instead of the train-wreck of Puzo's other novels that was (or wasn't) released. Otherwise a nice presentation, thank you. Really would have like to have seen Fabrizio get his... 😉
I read the first "sequel" to the book and train wreck is frankly putting it mildly, somebody with no knowledge or understanding of the culture depicted in the first book or movies making a caricature of that world, read it once, then a friend borrowed it and lost it, best favor they could have done for me
Please when anytime you do a video project do it with V/O not all people around the globe can read English but they understand English.

@@_unforgiven thanks, I appreciate it.
I’ve always felt the dumbest move Coppola made was having Godfather 3 set in the 1989’s. The smart move would’ve been to continue the story into the 60’s and have the Corleone’s tangle with the Irish mob and Presidential politics. Would Michael approve the ultimate hit job, JFK?
A bit harsh on the Mark Winegardner novels. They’re not great literature - but then neither is the original book by Puzo (which I love) and it’s vast swathes of text about Lucy Mancini’s genitals or Johnny Fontaine’s proclivities.
If it’s not for you, it’s not for you. I actually think the first book is superior to The Sicilian, which was a Godfather sequel-of-sorts by Puzo.
I would love to see the movie the way it was done
After watching the film I realised there should be the scene where Fabrizio got punished for his wrongdoing . Other scenes doesn't matter .
This lost final assassination scene could have made the Godfather go from 100 to 1000 & most likely become one of the greatest death scenes in history!!!! This is like the holy Grail of Godfather shit!!! Carlos death was ok but imagine this scene being the final death scene in arguably the greatest film ever made 💥🤯

? some pezzonovante should just sent a gift of 50 million dollars to Francis ( and couple of coca-cola stocks for the kids ) , and convince the Director to realease the things ..... or at least reveal all the mysteries needed- and then technically, IF he doesn't agree to release them.... someone could whack him n then the tapes would be up for grabs, also im sure that his kids would be eager to sell couple of the deleted footage , for cash money.... after all the next generations should have different buisness mindset to this matter.
"CROWDFUNDING"
There is also the idea of the people around world , who would chip in, to bribe the guy .
As we all know , yotube comments are filled with many middle class people who watched The Godfather , but do not hold significant wealth to "gift" Coppola... therefore goes the idea of an example of 1 million people donating 100 $ each to one cause , therefore making the goal.
the mob or any buisnesman could step in here , and "wash" as many millions they would need ( you give cash to F F C , but claim the crowdfunded one , and tell press you were his agent or middle man or something -for clean cut , any bank would also hop in here for % off the transaction ..... just need to invest money and then grab the legal checks )
don't forget how much publicity the crowdfunding site would get from that , oof madonne.
yougotthis
So , theres also the stuff with the other guys ..... as we know , the film crew that shoots the movie is made from dozen of guys , so 'in short' coppola is not the only one with acces to this stuff , and you could bribe some cameraman/archivist/nobody to get it , or just steal this piece of history.

The complete footage could have been cut into hour long episodes, not unlike a mini-series or even a modern limited streaming series like Boardwalk Empire. ..had those option been available back then...Too bad its too late for that,
If a copy of the original Fabrizio shotgun death (not the car bomb death deleted scene that u can still watch) doesn't exist, they should use the stills to make that CGI they used in The Irishman to remake that death scene & put it into a new special edition of GF1 because then id die a happy man

That claim about there originally being 90 minutes of footage after Fredo is killed is not true at all. We have the script draft that was completed a few weeks before the film started shooting, and nothing like that appears in the script. It's not true.
U have a different script draft , do u know how many times ppl rewrite things especially for songs & movies???
We still haven't seen it, just stills. Great title click bait. thanks for watching.
Well, you tricked us, thought we were going to see actual scenes. As for the murder of Fabricio', there's another version-where he'd blown up in his car after closing the pizzeria one night. And "episodes" refers to TV shows-"episodic TV shows," not films/movies
I hated all The Godfather III in special Michael Corleone´s haircut. This pictures show us a better Michael Corleone´s at the end but it won't never be.
Even Al Pacino hated the haircut. And said Michael would never sob openly over a coffin.
Michael was to die also yet the script was changed the ending credits were him dying in the chair with cigarette dangling in is hand studio didn't want such an ending
FYI Bonasera's daughter was not raped, she was beaten badly.
By the way..... you are mentioning scenes that were NOT deleted but written in different drafts of screenplay.
Coppola made multiple drafts of gf as they were building up the story until they finally came up with the FINAL one, closest one to the book.
Coppola said in an interview that Puzo helped made the final draft because Coppola himself didn't understand certain things from the book.
You say that Fabricio's death was Coppola's favorite which is completely NOT compatible with Coppola's commentary of entire trilogy. On the other hand why did he erase Fabricio's death from gf2?
He had full artistic control over gf2
Well, we know why ..... he told us in an interview. He said " I didn't think that it was cinematically accurately potraying Michael's determination to protect the family ".
Obviously they filmed the original Lumpara death of Fabrizio because there is multiple still pictures of both actors with Coppola u dum dum
The Godfather recut was to violent for TV back then! Wow! It is mild compared to what’s on TV regularly today!! But still people wonder why kids are so much more violent today…. guns were everywhere back then, but you didn’t hear about kids shorting up schools. Kids are brought up around violence today, and gangsters are now idolized! That has much more to do with increased violence than guns, that are even harder to get to today!
As much as I appreciate godfather epic I am so displeased with Coppola he cheated the audience without the proper Robbie Benson Anthony corleone ending scenes
Gorfather?
Do you think our kids will ever watch this great movie 😳
Where’s the movie with everything in it I’m tryna see that… If they had these SCENES in the FINAL cut it could never be DEBATED as the ALL TIME GOAT!!!
U would be surprised how many other films have extended versions that u probably never seen , Donnie Brosco & Pearl Harbor are the best directors cuts I've ever seen & I've seen tons of Uncut , extended cuts & assembly cuts of different films but the directors cuts are always the best because they feel just like a film that u only saw once , so u get to see a bunch of shit u never noticed or payed attention to the very first time except with a directors cut , it's not the same movie u saw the first time , it's got tons of new scenes that u never saw before but that's why it feels like watching a movie for only the second time 👍
I would love to watch the entire movie uncut, uncensored.
This is my favourite mobster movie! Wish there was a way to get the tv version of this! would love to see it. They should of kept the scene of Michael finding Fabrizio but to be honest I read the book that showed that it was it was his body guard Al neri who betrayed Michael not Fredo. Would of been interesting to see that aspect of killing a loved one for the wrong reason.
I’ve never watched any of them.
I know I need to be judged 🤷♂️
Especially wise not watching the third one.
Yes gf2 was longer ..... but all the scenes from the movie were registered in gf2 final draft script which is available online.
Michael changed his mind about Fredo after he closed the door on Kay. Closing the door ment end to the marriage, " marriage that ment everything to him " as Coppola said in an interview for Deadline.
So he put on a suit and killed a man responsible for it .
Michael ordered Fredo's death bc of Kay, in the first place.
He didn't want to kill him
" Fredo come to me you are still my brother "...
Than he found out about baby and realized he could lose his wife/ his family.
Just the fear of losing her got him to change his mind
" You are nothing to me, you are not my brother "...
You are mentioning books written by people other than Puzo which Coppola himself called " garbage " .
After Michael lost Kay he got diabetes, aged over night, stopped smoking, drinking, killing, never took the ring of his finger or touched another woman for the rest of his life.
Music of the ending of gf2 is Love said goodbye by Andy Williams. Its a song about man who is broken and in pain that he lost his woman and with her his dream wondering whether things would have been different had he come back home earlier.
And yes .... there are many minutes of Michael sitting in a chair at the of gf2, at one point eating with Connie, his son visiting, thinking about everything.
Some of those scenes were shown in Saga. When the memory of Kay appeared song " I got but one heart" was playing.
Do you know if Copplla ever mentioned releasing the full 6 hour movie of part 2? While I do love part 2. I would like to see more of Michael in that era.
@@_Tovar_
He did release significant part through Saga. Exept one scene.... when Kay ran to New England with kids ( while Michael was in Cuba ) , Hagen went to get her.
We only have pictures from that scene.
After Michael lost Kay he sits in the back yard. That final scene is much longer. Michael is thinking, smoking cigarettes, his hands are Up in front of his face. At one point he looked across the back yard remembering happier times when he was dancing with Kay .
Music of the gf2 ending is Love said goodbye by Andy Williams. At one point he throws lighter on the table and stops smoking.
He is sitting at the table on the lake.
Connie is serving lunch. She has replaced the roll of the wife ( sentence straight from the script captured in a movie). Michael is looking at his watch.... his son is coming to visit him.
At one point you see Michael walking with a grown man. It's his son. We don't see the face... we know he is in college . Portion of their conversation was registered in a script. Michael is telling him how he never graduated bc it was war back than. Its obvious he is regretful man broken with diabetes bc he lost Kay and kids, what he loved the most.
Connie is giving him medication for diabetes and emotionally manipulating Michael, pretending she doesn't know he killed Fredo...
Everything....but EVERYTHING like gf3.
Coppola took ending of gf2 and continued into gf3
Gf3 tells us that Michael sold everything in Neveda right around the time she remarried. He came to NY.
He is writing letter to his children asking them to convince Kay to come so they can see each other...
There is no evidence, anywhere that he was engaged or interested in business at the end gf2. Michael was doing everything for his family, so once he lost it he was done.
Which is why gf3 makes perfect sense....where Michael is a man interested in only getting his family back.
@PokerFace thank you so much for the clarification. I hope we get digital/remastered release of the saga.

Poor Mikey all alone, except for his sister. She knows he killed her husband. A better ending would have been she kills him. She is a Corleone after all. Revenge for brother Fredo too.
Click bait! Showed nothing
Wow.
The fall of Michael Corleone? Unfathomable?! Michael was no Vito but definitely cut from the same cloth.
Now, I can see the fall of Vincent because he had too much Sonny in him despite Michael's tutelage, but Michael had enough Vito to outsmart and outlive his enemies.
Vito's only mistake he had gotten too comfortable. Otherwise, he was in a different league compared to the rest of the Cosa Nostras.
part 3 doesnt exist , and DON CORLEONE has never fallen. "the fall " is a cash-grab-slogan to promote the movie
@@JeffPesos1987 makes sense.
The Godfather Lost Episodes (YOU'VE NEVER SEEN THIS)......Right....after watching this We still havent seen anything but pictures and text. Click bait MOFO
Crime glorified
I don’t believe Bonasera’s daughter was raped. “She kept her honor”
This music is very annoying...
What are you talking about?
Are you making this stuff up.
Michael killed Fabricio in gf1 ONLY after his father told him " Women and children can be careless men can not "...
It was after that he found him and killed him with shotgun.
There was NO voice over that said " Apollonia No"....
That is a shamfull lie.
That is comparable with the book.
In a book Puzo didn't tell us how Fabricio died , didn't bother to tell us but he did STRESS out that he was murdered for the safety of his family NOT vengeance. He wasn't even looking for Fabricio until Kay stayed pregnant with their first child.
So why are you making stuff up?
By the way..... Coppola incorporated Fabricio's death in gf2 in the same context ..... he killed him for safety of his family. It's was shown through timeline, opening credits ( in Saga) and confirmed, practically by Michael himself
Hagen:" You don't have to kill everyone".
Michael:" I don't feel like I have to kill everyone, just my enemies "..
Coppola himself hinted that in commentary.
Here is Michael after she died.
" Pop, what about Sonny. What about Sicily. If we don't respond isn't that gonna be sign of weakness "...
Not even mentioning her, not even saying her name let alone addressing her as his wife.
He is worried about status of his family.
What about Sicily? Barzini tried to kill him but he got away.
I wouldn't behave like that if a dog with flees died bc of me or instead of me, infront of me.
you have zero evidence of what you and your 10 comments here are saying , youre an overactive child with the acess to the internet , what can be proven by the fact that you made your yt account in 2022 .
Obviously the still photos of Mike holding a lumpara shotgun in the same pizza ria as the photos of a bloody Fabrizio says different sir
Michael's lying to Kay was NOT chilling.
You are a liar and showing shocking ignorance of the subject matter.
When Kay was insisting on telling her whether he committed murder, Michael screams No. Pushing her away from that world was the only way to protect her from horrors he committed, keep her alive and prevent her from becoming an accomplice.
When Michael was in Sicily he was a man who didn't know how to say No. That is straight from the book.
If he had screamed at Apollonia, if he had told her " No" when she was insisting on teaching her how to drive a car she would be alive. He said No way to late
When he came home his father thought him how to say No so he didn't make the same mistake with the woman he actually loved.
Read the book or better yet try and understand the movie.
" Kay i did what i could to protect you from horrors of this word ".... Michael in library in gf3.
Not only that he didn't allow her anywhere near that world, he didn't allow anyone else to bring his family into that world.
" Senator, you and I are part of the same hypocrisy NEVER think it applies to my family".... Michael in the library of gf2.
" Why was i so feared. What betrayed me was it my heart or my mind " ....
Michael turned himself into a savage animal to protect Kay so what happened in Sicily wouldn't happen to a woman he actually loved.
He murdered all the families bc of her. He had to kill Barzini to save his life but other families were killed for Kay and safety of his family.
Clemenza told Michael that in mafia wars start sporadically once in a decade. To prevent that from ever happening again he killed them all.
Including Fabricio who was murdered after Vito told Michael " Women and children can be careless men can not "....
And again..... you are LYING that those are deleted scenes. They were scenes from different drafts of the script as they were BUILDING up the story to a final, most accurate version scene in the movie.
@Blue Bird
Perfect. Why are you asking?
the first time ever hearing about that whole DC stuff AFTER Fredo's killing.
how will that play out in the movie? wouldn't that make all the final killing montage anti climactic..?
but, the ONE thing I wish Coppola'd never deleted is Michael's taking revenge on Fabrizio. and it should be the shooting, at the end of the first movie, instead of the car bombing in the second one, which just feels weaker and less personal...and not much of a payoff.
I still wanna see that whole extra hour of the DC stuff tho.
