    Interestingly, the Trio song is actually called Triello in Italian, which is more apt than the English translation. "Duello" is "duel" in Italian, i.e. a duel between two people (due = two), and "triello" is a duel between three people.

    The Dollars trilogy. This is filmed in reverse order. Good bad and ugly, 1862. For a Few Dollars More, 1870s. A Fistful of Dollars, 1880s.

      They were. There is an extended and remastered version from the early 2000s, where Clint Eastwood and Eli Wallach provided the sound (unfortunately Lee Van Cleef had died by that time, so his lines were dubbed by someone else). It lasts about 3 hours and has a split-second scene of Clint playing with a kitten! This version is now my favorite.

    This movie takes place in New Mexico during the American civil war during the retreat of General Sibley. I am from New Mexico and have been to the actual locations where this story was supposed to have taken place in 1862. I wish that all of you will give my country credit for inspiring this story.

    Interesting fact right before the cemetery scene. After Blondie covers the dying confederate soldier with his coat, he also takes the iconic poncho that characterizes him in the two (pre-dated) sequels.

      And he had got his no less iconic sheepskin vest (worn with a blue shirt) even before that. It was Angel Eyes who gave him that vest and a blue shirt in the POW camp, saying, "The war is over for you."

    the first time ever hearing about that whole DC stuff AFTER Fredo's killing. how will that play out in the movie? wouldn't that make all the final killing montage anti climactic..? but, the ONE thing I wish Coppola'd never deleted is Michael's taking revenge on Fabrizio. and it should be the shooting, at the end of the first movie, instead of the car bombing in the second one, which just feels weaker and less personal...and not much of a payoff. I still wanna see that whole extra hour of the DC stuff tho.

    Clipping Fredo wasn’t about vengeance or Fredo’s gripe with being passed over. The problem was that despite Fredo being dumb, he knew a lot about Michael and the internal workings of the Corleones. He could be manipulated again by Michael’s enemies or manipulated by the feds and become an informant like Pentangeli. But unlike Pentangeli who was shamed/threatened into recanting his confession by the presence of his brother at the hearing, Fredo would give everything up and there would be no way to stop him. So, Fredo was dangerous close and dangerous far away. Objectively, he had to be taken out. Michael regrets it because he is a family man at heart and he loved his parents and Fredo was their child (which is why he waited until Carmela Corleone passed away). But he still had to make that decision for the sake of himself and everyone else. Being the leader, he had to bear that burden and give that horrendous order. It’s easy for Connie to ask and beg Michael to spare Fredo but she wasn’t wearing the crown.

    @rajond7881 Місяць тому

    32:32 I’m pretty sure this is wrong. I don’t think Michael has any intent of seperating from his family here. At this point he’s bought all the way in and is even in hiding in his family’s country and region etc. Michael being love and first sight with appleonia if anything likely makes him realize he’s more like his family after all and he’s loving that part of it and likely thinking it’s all worth it for the sweet love he’s found and connection to his roots via doing something that needed to be done. With appleonia he can have a type of wife that he couldn’t and doesn’t ever have with Kay. A wife well suited for the life he was going to be living, either a life associated with his families mob ties home in America or his root home in Sicily. He was prob thinking that he could teach her the American habits he wanted her to have and not have the ones he didn’t want her to. And he was probably right. Ironically though it’s one of those habits that leads to her death.

    It's important to let people know The Godfather was released during the 70's years, which were the greatest time of American movies ever according to Quentin Tarantino and several filmmakers emerged like Scorsese, Ford Coppola, Spielberg or the own George Lucas with his Star Wars franchise. Unfortunately, those Hollywood's golden years will never be back.

      I'm 60 years old and the movies that came out then were fantastic. You could understand the actors as they spoke. Today's movies I need subtitles to understand them. People seem to be mumbling their way through the movie and the music is too loud. The studios still held their actors to a code of conduct, even though you still had scandals, but they were dealt with quickly.

    I think it’s a shame and misinformation, when you spoke of how immigrants were treated, coming through Ellis Island, you said that America was largely built by Eastern European immigrants. That’s a lie. America was built by slave labor.

    To be honest, this analysis is almost as enthralling as the movie itself. Brilliant work! In the final analysis, it reminds me of the book, 'The Old Man and The Sea', a demonstration of the futility of man's struggle. It then brings to mind, the admonition to live in the present.

    Part 3 really shows the decline , stresses and impact of leading a criminal organization. It really shows what happens when you dedicate your entire life to a cause but at the sacrifice of losing your family. Family was the entire reason Michael chose to take the mantle but just like a business owner who dedicated their life to a business it consumed him. Died alone, wasn't worth it
