I thought it was great. Yeah I didn't have high expectations but if something is utter crap I stop watching it whereas I rewatched it about 3 times and rewatched the end charades too many times to count.
Glad you liked it
Hey Brandon, I think Paul Reubens has a cameo in the film, he unfortunately passed away in July. I always get mixed up with Pee-Wee Herman and Mr. Bean for some reason.
That’s right
great review! thank you!
My pleasure!
Have to disagree with you on this one. Gave it a 7/10. While the poop humour was juvenile like you said, I didn't mind it that much because it's actually used as a plot point to move the story forward. The humour as a whole was just silly but it was a simple, heartwarming story. I'm not even a fan of Sandra Oh but have admit she played her character with the energy it required. Awkwafina was very relatable. I liked the Benjamin Franklin scenes. It reminded me of that one episode in The Office where an actor played as him. Warning SPOILERS below:
The twist on the "villain" I definitely didn't see coming. Didn't really affect the story but it was a creative way to make the story less generic. It's also good to see Will Ferrell play someone wholesome. I prefer his less comedic roles.
Sure the poop humour was used to move the story forward… but couldn’t they have thought of LITERALLY anything??
@@BrandoCritic I would argue that if it wasn't the poop story, it would have been just another recycled idea to move the story forward and we can pinpoint that as an example of lazy writing. I think the overall tone and feel good aspect of the film made it worth watching, not the humour. Although many people online found the movie to be hilarious.
That’s great for them
I rewatched your review after watching the movie and didn't notice anything wrong with the structure or pacing. I thought it was relatively standard pacing for films nowadays. When exactly did you feel the movie needed to slow down and breathe? The plot structure was also very simple and straight forward. You mentioned Awkwafina's scenes with the co-workers and it wasn't comedic because they were acting so rudely. I think they were just there to show that her colleagues lack of respect for her and the audience was supposed to gain sympathy for our main character.
The first 20 minutes or so. That’s when I thought the scenes were cut extremely quickly. I’m glad you liked the movie
I thought it was good I guess that's just me
And that's all that matters... is what YOU think of it. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise
You aren't the only one. My wife and I both enjoyed it. If was pleasant and funny.
Poops in her backyard and buries it?!!! 😅 I feel tempted to watch this but I think watching your review is enough. Great review as always!
Thanks Jason!!
A child "poops in the backyard and buries it" because she is afraid to use the bathroom of the people she is staying with. Not a big deal.
My wife and I watched this over the weekend basically out of boredom. I was pleasantly surprised. I think it was funny, and it was a story that definitely drew us in to root for the protagonists. I thought Farrell was quite good, and surprisingly understated. Tony Hale was good in a small role. Awkwafina was, as usual, charismatic and funny. I am not a fan of Sandra Oh, but she was kind of unrecognizable, which made it a lot easier for her to pleasantly execute her role. For a random streaming movie... it was good.
Right... but it sounds like it was a good movie due to a random watch and the bar being very low. You know?
@@BrandoCritic Variety of factors. The bar being low certainly helped make it a "pleasant surprise," and a "random watch" was the only reason we saw it in the first place. Bottom line: for a hulu movie, I thought it was pretty good. At the very least, it was entertaining.
I liked this movie. I don't like most comedies but I liked it. I find gross out humor, which you thought of as a possible good change, to be lazy, common and uninspired. I'm thinking we don't have the same taste. This was a very likeable movie.
Glad you liked it
This movie was awesome, it was very funny, touching😢, and exciting.
Glad you liked it
It was nice to see Paul Reubens for the last tim
Yep
I agree that movies on streaming services this year have not been very good, and I've even heard that some of the services are pushing out content that can watched when someone is watching their phone and looking up every 10 seconds. So basically, there is little effort in making the film engaging,
It’s background noise is what you’re saying
@@BrandoCritic yes
Will Ferrell is barely in this lol
Sure
@@BrandoCritic Hey Brandon, Matthew Lillard is barely in Five Nights at Freddy's (2023), from I have seen from the film, he gives a thrilling performance as William Afton despite his limited screen time and I have no desire to see the film in its entirety.
I don’t want to watch that movie
@@BrandoCritic Me too Brandon, I never played the video games, it is overrated.
It seems like a lot of streaming movies are just throw-away movies or average. It’s been awhile since I’ve come across one and said, Wow, they made a mistake not putting that into a theater. I’ll most likely skip this one.
This film isn't terrible... but it broke me... I'm so done with trying to keep up with the newest releases
@@BrandoCritic yeah it’s a lot to keep up with. Prices just keep going up for the streaming services as well.
It’s just not worth it
Streaming movies are like that section of the video store of all those straight to DVD movies that have an interesting cover but are actually awful
Yep! You said it
this movie is just silly
the way this film plays out is kinda poorly
these actresses are good, But they shouldve done this movie better, by having a fun approach
where will ferrell did have a larger role in
but that there was a lot more actors in it opposite the actresses
you would think that if ferrell had been the focus rather than the actresses, the title and story wouldve changed to reflect his role
the way you described this movie
nails it that it probably isnt the best
I just think you need a solid tone and stick with it
