  • Hi everyone, in this video I show you how to make these pretty sugar/gumpaste pansies. I’ve always loved pansies, but never thought of making a sugar one. I have a Facebook group called ‘Cake Topper and Decorating Tutorials’ and a member was looking for a sugar pansy tutorial. After looking, I couldn’t really find many pansy tutorials, so I decided to make one myself. I hope you like it!
The paste I used to make these pansies is my usual favourite Renshaw Flower and Modelling Paste. For most of the pansies I used white flower paste and then coloured them with edible dusts. I did also use pre coloured flower paste in yellow and purple to show another way of creating them. To make the purple and yellow petals, I coloured the paste using PME Regal Purple food colouring paste and ProGel Yellow food colouring gel. As usual, a list of all the items that I used in this tutorial can be found at the bottom of this page.
While designing this tutorial, it was important to me that I used the minimum amount of tools to make it more achievable to people. That’s why I chose not to use any special cutters and the fewest modelling tools that I could.
You may want to make your flowers smaller. I made mine quite large for the purpose of the tutorial, so you can see what I am doing easier. To make them smaller, just use a smaller tube of flower paste at the beginning and possibly a smaller heart shape cutter too. You can see that the yellow pansies are much smaller than the others.

Brilliant thank you! Is it possible to wire them? Not that I am very good at wiring!

You're very welcome. So pleased you like them. The middle of the flowers are quite thin so I don't think there is enough there for a wire to hold on to I'm afraid.
