If you want to know more about this video
In this flower tutorial I’m going to teach you how to make Pansy. Seeing that I don’t have Pansy cutters , I’m going to make this particular flower free-hand.
Although I went through a phase of making free-hand sugar flowers for period of time, won over by how thin you can get the petals and how realistic they looked, the truth is , it was just a phase, and on a hindsight I believe that many flowers offer quite definite characteristic shapes, which you simply can’t acheve by free handing, or not ver easily and certaily not very fast, which can be a problem for those of you wanting to make botanically correct flowers. That being said, free-form flower making skill is worth acquring as an accessory skill, like here, when I have no cutters but in mood of making this lovely Pansy.
Back to the main purpose of the video and the main technique I wanted to try out. I wanted to try and tone this cold porcelain flower with oil paints. Because after all this is the main way to give clay flowers it’s gengle, extremely life-like character.
In this tutorial, somewhat being my own flower student , I’m finding out how much paint to use, what paint brushes work best , how to control the pain, the depth of colour , its amount and where the colour goes.
This part for the my tutorial will probably not be idea for gumpaste flower makers , as sugar does not teamwork with paint, even edible quite as well, or at least to the same extent. But then again, cold porcelain flowers are not toxic and make for a fantastic cake decoration you can actually keep, not to mention, drive long distance safely and use for wedding fare flower arrangements on wedding and celebration cakes, just to be rearranged at a later date.
So this is the summary of this video, step by step pansy flower tutorial in Cold Porcelain free-form, as no cutters are involved, using oil paints to add collour.

I know we like thingits to come out perfectly, and have them the same, but if you ever looked at pansies in the real world, you will find no two are ever alike. So have no fear of free-forming them, you are getting very close to the real thing. :) I do enjoy that you are devoted to only doing flowers, Christina, Thank you for that. I don't do cakes, I only do the flowers as well, so every time I can learn a new technique or see another way to try something, I am grateful to learn it. You are a blessing to those of us who are not cake artists, but flower artists. :)
I haven't made any flowers in almost two years. A couple injuries in a fall on black ice and recuperation and then just not being able to even think of working in clay...but this inspires me to pick it up again. I seriously found that some of my colored clay I hadn't touched in all that time is still usable...not all of it, some molded, some dried, but some is quite usable, I believe it is time to begin again and not let any more go to waste.
I would love it if you share more free-form ideas, ideas for making your own moulds, centers, anything and everything. Blessings!

When you're painting lines on the pansies petals instead of painting your line from the top, wherever that may be on the petal to the base, go from the base of the petal and flick your brush up and the line will be finer at the top, I learnt that in an art class. Love the flowers.

Thank you for sharing this Christina! I have tried free-form petals but found them to be much time-consuming and the outcome wasn't always consistent! I guess they are for more experienced flower artists! I now use homemade cutters and am more comfortable making flowers this way!!! Merry Christmas! ♡

It depends on the flower you want to make.... I like the method to cut with a cutter and then finish the petal with the roller pin...

It's crazy because the most ridiculous videos get suggested but things like this, that are beautiful and actually teach you something aren't as popular as those. I always look forward to your uploads💚
