    • @kaphizmey6229
      @kaphizmey6229 6 місяців тому +2

      he overrates and underrates quarterbacks at the same time, it’s weird. unless he’s talking about brady he acts like quarterback is the only position that matters… when plenty of backup-quality guys like nick foles and late-career doug williams (this washington fan appreciates that man, even if he was past his glory days with tampa bay) have proven that sometimes, all you have to do is stay out of your own team’s way and not make mistakes. there are very few professional quarterbacks that were ever truly elite enough to carry mid teams to glory - even tom brady was more of a game manager than a gunslinger like montana, manning or mahomes

  • @xtlm
    @xtlm 6 місяців тому +9

    Foles saved 3 separate Eagles seasons and none of the playoff losses were because of him.
    Great Eagles QB and weirdly kinda bad everywhere else.

    • @renaldoawes2210
      @renaldoawes2210 6 місяців тому +1

      I wouldn't be too hard on him. Jeff Fischer led was one of those teams he was stuck on and Jeff had Jared Goff, Nick Foles, and Case Keenum. Three QBs who got to Championship games and he somehow made them all look like shit and basically ruined all of their careers. Only Jared was spared since the Rams snagged McVay from the Skins. I don't blame Foles. Name one QB Fischer ever made look good. Bum coach.

    • @xtlm
      @xtlm 6 місяців тому +3

      @@renaldoawes2210 Yep. Also when Foles went to the Jaguars, he threw one complete dime for a TD in his first game and immediately was injured on that play. I don't think he was ever the same after that injury (Though he did beat Brady again and that is awesome)

    • @sgshumblecrumb6046
      @sgshumblecrumb6046 6 місяців тому

      Injuries and getting traded to bad teams twice (once for Sam freaking Bradford, once back when Wentz was still considered the future) derailed his career. He would've had a much better career otherwise. Maybe not HOF good but similar to Flacco I think. Big QB, couldn't run for shit but he could fling the ball, was cool under pressure, and respected as a leader by his players.

      He had an excellent offensive line, a Hall of Fame receiver, and built around that.
      Those quarterbacks played well, but the fact remains, he had to work with multiple of them to get his championships.

      Namath is a true HoFer. How he ends up on a "worst" list is beyond us people actually knowing football.
      Sure Barry goes by efficiency stats like Y/PP or passer rating. Which is a good start at least. But too bad he forgets to adjust for era (leave alone for opponents, weather, turf, dome, etc). Always.
      And calling QBs "fragile" (like he did with McMahon) is insulting. He should watch a single FULL game of the 70s or 80s. No excessive dink and dork (except for the 49ers who started with that shxx). QBs were aimed at with no mercy. They (good to great QBs) threw the ball long and precise more often than not. There wasnt a ton of easy dump offs (it was just a last resort), padding culmulative stats. And here is the stunner: With all the rules and systems in place to protect the QBs, almost two dozen went down this season.
      In no other sport in the world (except motor "sports") has the performance/skill level DECLINED, but at the QB position in college and pro ball. The new age rules led to poor mechanicvs, and more weak arm QBs make it to the league now. It has become pure lottery. Nowadays talent around the QB matters more, than the actual talent of a QB.
      After all: Namath, McMahon, Hostetler, in no way on this earth belong onto such an insulting list. Never, ever.

    Regarding Hostetler, probably the greatest offensive play by the Giants in Super Bowl XXV was (seen at 12:28 in this video) when WR Mark Ingram (father of the more recent RB of the same name) caught a pass on 3rd & 14, and managed to break about 7 tackles to reach the first down marker, and preserve what would become the then longest drive in Super Bowl history, and a critical part of NY keeping the ball away from Buffalo's offense (that drive was over 10 minutes, more than half of the total time of possession Buffalo had all game). The whole thing that made that play so impressive was Ingram's heroics in picking up the first down. For some reason, no one asks why Hostetler threw the ball six yards short of the line to gain, with so many defenders between his target and the marker.
    Basically, Hostetler's best act in that game was not fumbling when he was sacked in the end zone, where the defender had a grip on his forearm, preventing him from tucking the ball to safety.
    I use Hostetler and Dilfer as my prime arguments against the need to go all in for a top pick franchise QB. In five Super Bowls played by the NY Giants, the superior QB lost every game. Phil Simms beat John Elway, Jeff Hostetler beat Jim Kelly, Trent Dilfer beat Kerry Collins, and Eli Manning beat Tom Brady, twice. It's the same for most of this list. Namath beat Unitas (and Morrall), Plunkett beat Theisman, Williams beat Elway, Foles beat Brady (how weird is it that Brady went out and beat Kurt Warner, Donovan McNabb and Patrick Mahomes, while losing to Manning & Foles?), Rypien beat Kelly. Flacco is the only one to beat his objectively inferior counterpart.

    Trent Dilfer finally gets a win he deserves.... Would be interesting to see a list of top 10 best QBs to never even play in a Super Bowl--and then compare it to this list. As in: which list has better QBs overall? You would have to eliminate the Hall of Famers (Moon, Fouts) to make it fair. Off the top of my head, I would take Andrew Luck, Randall Cunningham, Tony Romo, Phillip Rivers, and (fuck it, maybe even) Bert Jones over anyone on this list.... Yeah, I think I just answered my own question.
