I never heard anything but praise from Blackmore about Page in interviews. He always said that he admired Page and Led Zeppelin was the inspiration for DP when they changed band members 1969.
This is correct. And Blackmore also once said that he knew Page was destined to be an all-time great, even way back when Page was doing sessions in the early-mid-'60s.
Jealous is what I see from Blackmore & Richards, they both knew Page was better than them. Yes later in Led Zeppelin there were some conflicts, two wanted to go in one direction, & two in another. Stop acting like Jimmy was the only addicted musician, thankfully he survived & overcame his addictions. The Rolling Stones still touring, still aren’t as great as Led Zeppelin. Deep Purple, some great songs, but not the top of the trifecta many mention. Jimmy’s multi musical genius outshines them all, playing writing producing mixing etc. JPJ chose to be more behind the scenes, but fans know of his genius & contributions.
My only complaint about Page is his theft of riffs from blues greats without compensation or even praise and acknowledgement of the Blues great’s he stole them from. Clapton and the Stones did a lot to be sure these men got the attention and respect they deserved. Also , even though the estate of Randy California lost the lawsuit about the lifting the acoustic guitar prelude to Stairway to Heaven from Spirits song Taurus. Listen and compare the two songs and tell me you can’t hear the similarities. It’s not a coincidence that they were on the same bill together often in 68 and 69 and Page heard it played at the shows they did together .

Blackmore is a great guitar player no doubt , and he praised Page from as far back when Jimmy was a studio musician, both great players , but Jimmy has so much more that he brings to the table , he almost single handed, put arguably the greatest debut album, especially considering that was an inventive time 1968 , sept until April 69 at Fillmore was the number one band , beating the Beatles by the begging of 1970 , after the first album took off then Zeppelin became the group effort , but with out Pages vision of what he wanted , picking the best musicians that shared his vision . He doesn’t get enough credit , he’s not just a riff master , he almost single handed changed rock music , not Hendrix not , Blackmore , not Clapton or Beck could have done what he did , some might be better players , or this and that , but he piloted the thing at the beginning, his money , his connections, his business savvy, all those things had to come together For them to get a chance. They are both players. Yngvie Malmsteen can technically smoke both their asses. Even he is a Ritchie fan. I’m a 50 year guitarist who can play all three……I would challenge Ritchie any day of the week to make a recording of himself playing: Song Remains the Same, No Quarter (Solo), The Rain Song. I can say with zero doubt….its above him and he’d pull his hair out after weeks of frustration.

Blackmore is great, technically proficient and all that, but there's not much emotion in what he plays. It's almost as if he's just trying to say, "Hey guys, look how great I am!" Page, on the other hand - his playing has drama, this epic quality, and it's loaded with feel. And Page's compositional prowess was much more diverse than Blackmore's: you had folk, rock, blues, rockabilly, Eastern influences, even reggae for one song. As great as Deep Purple was, they sure didn't have that.
These little documentaries always repeat the same statements over and over in a loop. Makes everything seem worse. I've seen Blackmore mention Page, and it felt positive...

Sad to say I have mixed feeling about Deep Purple performances. I didn’t dig all the Zeppelin performances either. Composition wise….Jimmy takes the cake. Ritchie known for being a hater and all round nasty person to nearly everyone around him. Guys has serious issues and to knock Page don’t help his image any.
GRFrailroad was forced to stopp their act as opening band for LZ by LZ-manager Peter Grant, because Grant knew immediately that LZ could never top GF. Farner and Brewer then watched the LZ-performance and said that they watched two posers. Live unbearbable for me to watch a singer in a ridiculous bolero jacket with just one pose only LZ is the Numberone rock band of all time. However, I always prefered Deep Purple and Blackmore. Greg Lake once said: show me a successfull band and I show you a band that fights.

Blackmore is an ego, yes, but nothing wrong with being ego in the music business. We would never get THAT music if not. BUT if you notice in this video we never get to know where they have taken the "info" from. And we never hear Blackmore say anything in this video. Even if he has been critical at some point, no doubt he has things about Page, but the persons behind the video is clearly making a goose out of a feather.
Jimmy was "very loose" playing live. His party high at that time was usually whiskey and LSD (early years, from Hendrix) and it really took a toll on his guitar prowess. Actually, I don't think his brain ever really fully recovered. But Jimmy's talent was in his studio work, where he felt most comfortable. Edit: I meant to say that early on, he was dropping acid. It was a gateway drug to heroine for Jimmy. It's the whiskey though that really kicked him hard, as it does to everyone. It was a shame to see that happening to him.
Jimmy's forte was playing live for three hours and having the talent and genius for coming up with stuff on the spot and never playing the same things over and over again. You never hear an identical version of a song live. They are all different. Zeppelin were unique.
@ True that! I saw them a lot in LA during the 70's, 4 times to be exact. He stunk the joint up on two shows. Obviously drunk, it reminded me of Clapton during his drunk days. Had a great show in '75 at the Forum, then the all-time show, '77 at the Long Beach Arena. Each band member had their solo feature, Jimmy's was beyond believe. He comes on stage with his star burst Les Paul, smoking a butt, and absolutely RIPPED, Johnny B Good. There was not a peep in that place while he played! I looked around and I saw people all around me with their mouths dropped open. For all the Jimmy nay-sayers, I can tell you one thing. THAT DUDE CAN PLAY GUITAR!

Jimmy did have breakout creativity in '69 and '70, which is when he was reportedly tripping. Thank God, I had the sense (fear actually) to stay away from that crap!

Blackmore brought fast accurate dexterity, Bach and introduced as to Middle Eastern Scales what he called Medieval Rock. Guitar God Blackmore still relevant today. Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin and it's not close. LZ ruled 69 throughout 78.... And even had a #1 record in 1979 with In Through The Outdoor.....

Blackmore is an ego, yes, but nothing wrong with being ego in the music business. We would never get THAT music if not. BUT if you notice in this video we never get to know where they have taken the "info" from. And we never hear Blackmore say anything in this video. Even if he has been critical at some point, no doubt he has things about Page, but the persons behind the video is clearly making a goose out of a feather.

Jimmy was "very loose" playing live. His party high at that time was usually whiskey and LSD (early years, from Hendrix) and it really took a toll on his guitar prowess. Actually, I don't think his brain ever really fully recovered. But Jimmy's talent was in his studio work, where he felt most comfortable. Edit: I meant to say that early on, he was dropping acid. It was a gateway drug to heroine for Jimmy. It's the whiskey though that really kicked him hard, as it does to everyone. It was a shame to see that happening to him.

Jimmy's forte was playing live for three hours and having the talent and genius for coming up with stuff on the spot and never playing the same things over and over again. You never hear an identical version of a song live. They are all different. Zeppelin were unique.
@ True that! I saw them a lot in LA during the 70's, 4 times to be exact. He stunk the joint up on two shows. Obviously drunk, it reminded me of Clapton during his drunk days. Had a great show in '75 at the Forum, then the all-time show, '77 at the Long Beach Arena. Each band member had their solo feature, Jimmy's was beyond believe. He comes on stage with his star burst Les Paul, smoking a butt, and absolutely RIPPED, Johnny B Good. There was not a peep in that place while he played! I looked around and I saw people all around me with their mouths dropped open. For all the Jimmy nay-sayers, I can tell you one thing. THAT DUDE CAN PLAY GUITAR!

But that isn't such a social high, most of the time. Then somehow, they found heroine. Your not so strange on heroine (at first) as compared to tripping. Jimmy did have breakout creativity in '69 and '70, which is when he was reportedly tripping. Thank God, I had the sense (fear actually) to stay away from that crap!
