I don't work at Starbucks, but in Japan, I've never seen anyone overly customize their drinks. Like, changing the milk or number of shots is about it. No one tries to pick up girls, and names aren't asked because people value their privacy, so no name problems. Nobody would be using their phones at the counter, it's incredibly rude and a waste of other people's time. No one would not understand something as simple as, "do you want me to heat it". I know because I worked at a convenience store. I don't know what's the problem with western Starbucks.
Yes, there are many in school clubs and workplaces. They think they can boss you around because you're an underclassmen or a rookie. Even when it's just a difference of months! Japanese take the whole "senpai" thing very seriously, and you're supposed to talk to them in honorific speech. Customers are generally pretty polite though. The worst one I met was probably a woman who told me her ramen wasn't hot enough so she wanted the kitchen to heat it up again (at a restaurant)? The store was really busy at that time, and her tone was more like a complaint. We ended up remaking the whole thing for her. Most of the problems I had was with my colleagues at my part time jobs.
We have a saying that "The customer is always right" in the west. The idea is that even if you as a retail employee is polite, if you upset the customer in any way you will loose the customer and lose money for the company. Sense we all like to be heard it can easily turn into a scene too. But there is no consequence for the customer. So they think they can do whatever they want and have no personal responsibility for the transaction. No need to count their own money, answer questions, or know what anything is before they get in line, as the retail employee that's YOUR job. Even if you basically have to have super powers like mind reading and superspeed to get it done. That customer experience you described is heaven because as ridiculous as it was, she had a nice tone and from the sounds of it, didn't make a scene about how incompetent you are to the whole Restaurant. As far as specified orders, I've been told that's because our whole country tends to have more options than normal. So we're actually used to being asked half of those details and sense we're always able to adjust it's not surprising people find the strangest perfect combination for them. I've worked in my fair share of retail and I actually enjoy it, but I get frustrated too because while they get to throw a fit it's my job to pretend their the nicest person in the world while they're cussing me out and then make THEM feel better. But that's actually my favorite part. Because I'm really good at it and they usually end up getting what they want but with a sheepish apology.
Working in a Chinese restaurant, the being quiet thing is my hugest pet peeve. I'll ask for their name and they can blatantly tell there is a tremendous amount of noise going on behind me due to the cooks using woks and stuff, and they WHISPER. And get annoyed when i ASK THEM AGAINSJSHDGSYD
does it have to ask for name? Many coffee shop or restaurant I went to just give us number when we pay. So they just call order number when the food's ready
This is why everyone should work in customer service (coffee shop, restaurant, retail, grocery store, call center, etc). Once you're on THAT side of those interactions...well...you know. Edit: car repair shops, tow truck companies, HVAC companies, utility workers, etc. A lot of the ones I just added have to work outdoors or in/around dirty (and sometimes dangerous) stuff.
No customer is without any of these sins; I didn't think about how annoying I could be sometimes. Respect to you guys that work in places like these, especially when people like these come in all the time.
I don’t work at Starbucks, but I got Starbucks so often that I can tell who these customers are. The baristas know what I always get so once they see me they like “venti iced coffee with hazelnut and halt &half? “ I feel so bad for baristas sometimes cause they get so much shit. Always thank them and appreciate them!
No joke, as soon as I saw the coins for the payment that reminded me of what had happened just Yesterday when a girl tried to pay for a like 4-5 dollar drink in ROLLS OF PENNIES. I made the point of having them weighed in the back and thank god one of the rolls didn't have enough because I had to give them all back and instead she used her card (
Sessho Lord I love pennies I would have bought them off her with my own money even if a few we're missing. Older copper type ones are worth 2-3 cents each.
I know this a year old response...but... I feel for you. I worked at a dollar store where more than a handful of times I had to count out coins of over $30. I wasn't lucky enough to weigh the money.
TJ The Guy 🤔 I’m not even a barista and I have to tell people all the time that frappucinos at Starbucks are blended iced drinks. They always get them mixed up with cappuccinos.
Cris Pidlaoan okay but I’m indecisive at food/coffee places because I have an eating disorder.. remember this next time you get frustrated with somebody who takes a long time to figure out what they want.
I work retail, and what I hate is people who drop their stuff off at the counter, LEAVE to go shop some more and then get pissed that I decided to help the next guest instead
my *favorite* customers are the ones that pretend that everyone else in the shop gives them a discount on their drink and they get upset when you're like "no... this is how much the drink is"
This is TOO real! . Actually, someone today ordered at the speaker while on the phone, ignored my question so I had no idea what size she wanted. Even when she pulled to the window, she didn't tell me so I just made her a small drink. She didn't even care and neither did I lol
I loved this video. When I worked at Starbucks, one dude only wanted 6 ice cubes in his iced coffee. He would count with whoever was on bar making his drink. People with cell phones was my biggest pet peeve! You and your friends demonstrated very well.
Himeyuki Matsumoto hahahahaha i really dunno what they're talking about. Then the funniest that happen to me last day caramel Frappuccino with no foam i was like what?!
Sherlline Lim tf 😂 not possible 😂 or when they ask for a special cream based frappuccino if there is no coffee 😂 of course there is not unless you want the java chips the only cream based with green tea frappuccino that goes with coffee 😂 😂 I always look defeated when they ask questions 😂
*Me closing down my till and cashing off* A customer comes up and I tell them "I'm closing down, could you move along to the next till please?". *Customer still stands there for the next 10 minutes and eventually complains that they've been waiting so long and no-one has served them*. EVERY. TIME!!
I've worked as a Barista for a year now. This is very accurate... People on the phone annoy me the most - or the regular customers that assume you know their drink order...
Great video! It's frustrating watching these types of horrible customers in the stores when I'm in line. They usually hold up the line for everyone. To all you baristas out there, we know and understand what you guys go through daily. Putting on a fresh smile and trying to forget about that last terrible customer is not as easy task. We appreciate the work you guys do.
On the contrary, when the child is willing to order I'll address them directly even if their parents didn't prompt them to say it themselves. I'll look to the parent for confirmation if the item is huge or mostly junkfood, but kids are fully capable of saying what they want and should be offered the opportunity to practice that. It pissed me off when two perfectly polite kids told me exactly what they wanted and their mother, who spent the whole time on the phone, contradicted them at the last minute with something they clearly didn't want. If a parent wants to stand back and actively encourage their kids to order I'm in full support of it even if it takes a moment for them to find their words.
Yeah one time we had a rush and this couple comes in and orders two large blended drinks. Anyway blended drinks take a lot of time to make so its kinda the worst in a rush, so we make them but obviously it takes longer than usual bc we are busy. The girl takes a big sip of it and cuts off the customer at he counter and is like “this is so bad. I didn’t realize there were chunks of peanut in it....I’ve had it so many times before” so I’m like “okay I can reblend it for you so it’s smoother if you want” and she goes “no I’ll just take a muffin in exchange” Ok But if you’ve had it so many times before u would know it’s a thicker drink that has WALNUTS and not peanuts in it but sure take ur damn muffin
This was so on point! I worked as a Barista at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in North Hollywood about 12+ years ago & those customers are a carbon copy! 🤣
I know all of them. But IGNORING questions is the worst. And when you did it your way, they are like totally offended. (I even ask the questions twice)
My biggest pet peeve as a barista: Ordering a drink, watching me make it, HEARING the steamer wand, and then saying afterward "Oh, I wanted that iced."
People expecting refunds after finishing their order really butters my biscuit. I worked at a Taco Bell, and we once had a customer screaming at the staff, red in the face, demanding a refund on $40+ worth of food because we were out of mild sauce and his kids ‘refused to eat’ without it. Looked back at the table and him and his kids had eaten everything. Management still gave him the refund 🙄
I love when they reach across the counter to touch the cup to imply what size they want. Or when they watch you pour coconut milk into a coconut steaming pitcher to make their drink, and when you hand it to them they ask “this was made with coconut milk right?”
I've definitely been the customer with communication issues before. One time I was at Starbucks and it was super loud, and as the barista was taking my order, I thought I heard him ask "do you want anything else today?". So I said "no, thank you", and he gave me a super weird look. And that's when I realized he was holding the cup in one hand and a sharpie in the other. He was asking for my NAME 🤦🏻♀️
I spend a lot of my day in coffee shops as I meet clients and travel all over the city. When these types of people are in the queue, I really want to kill them for holding everyone up 😂
Oh my GOD, people who can't enunciate their names. I work at a restaurant, but we start taking names down when we run out of tables, so we can keep track of who's waiting for a table. And some people get really offended when you can't work out what their name is. Tips: -If you're in a group, choose the name that's EASIEST to say clearly -Speak loudly and enunciate - some of us have bad hearing. And even if we don't, remember that "just loud enough for yourself to hear" isn't actually loud enough for anyone ELSE to hear. -If your name is foreign, SPELL IT. -Don't get offended if we spell your name wrong. We don't know you, it might happen. -If we ask you to spell your name, please do it SLOWLY, loudly and clearly. If we're asking you to spell something that seems really simple, it's for one of two reasons; either someone else had the exact same name and we're trying to differentiate them from you (because chances are you'll ONLY hear your name, and not listen to what the actual order is), or that's a sign that we could not HEAR you, which means you need to adjust your speaking volume and speed.
not mention this scenario I just recently had 🙃 (I’m a barista) Me: *puts coffee out for man who ordered it* Grande Peppermint mocha! *loud & clear no one else is in store except him* Man: *Does not come to counter* Me: Man: Me: *working on other things around store* Man: *finally comes up to counter* “Were u just not going to call mine out?” Me: *smiles* *tries to b friendly* Oh I did i’m so sorry! Did you not hear me? Man: No *sips coffee and walks away* Me: 🙃🙄 PSA people fr need to b paying attention when having drink orders called out it’s fr so aggravating bc u can’t expect the barista to remember every drink they’re putting out thankfully his was easy to remember bc he was the only one in there.
This is where I would become angry associate mode and stomp over to the customer. "Dude, I just called your order and you're the only one here. Don't play dumb with coffee."
People who visit coffee shops must think they're royalty or something. I do everything I possibly can to treat the baristas well when I go, because I know how hard some other people make it for them. Working in retail teaches you some valuable life lessons that just can't be learned anywhere else.
"Hi Melissa!" Oh my gosh that was my biggest pet peve. Guys that come to hit on you and start by looking at your name tag and calling you by name like they know you. These are usually the type that tell you to smile as though that's a normal thing to do in a normal conversation. Also the girl on the phone. Like...I can't tell you how many customers waiting in a long line were on the phone and then acted like as though *I* were the rude one asking their order when 20 people were behind them waiting to have their orders to be taken.
Even as a dude I hate this. Just because I am forced to wear a nametag isn't invitation to be so familiar with me. If you're one of my regulars and we see each other often, okay, but a complete stranger is not okay. Girls don't seem to do this, I guess because unlike dudes they just assume if you're a reasonably hot guy that you are spoken for and they're not looking for a cat fight with the missus.
I applaud anyone who works in the business and deals with these kinda customers. These portrayals are so realistic they make me grind my teeth just remembering my own experiences as a customer. There's a line and everyone's working hard, but there's always that one guy/girl...
I work at a Tim Horton’s and god is this painfully accurate. I’ve had a person come in demanding a $10 gift card because “time is money and you wasted my time coming back here to fix my order”.
You are really pretty and talented! I'm a former barista but in my country, things are quite different here... Rude customers anyway, but if I have to deal with all those names and variations my anxiety would kill me on my first shift.
exfactorygirl It gets better the longer you work there... and this is also just one side of the spectrum. The good customers always out weigh the strange ones! :) thank you for the kind words! xx
I always feel bad because i stutter sometimes and i dont always have enough money, i usually try and ask to check the price on my gift cards first so i know what i can afford and dont cause trouble for the employees
When I sit in Starbucks I overhear some of the customers and their stupid and ridiculous demands. I just want to get up and give them a knuckle sandwich.
That's probably what needs to be done to get people to stop being so rude. A lot of us are raised to understand bad behavior comes with consequences, but these sheltered ass people don't know what consequences are.
I work at a bank and after waiting in line for 10mins they still don't have their stuff together. They come to my window and start rattling off 10 different transactions...I just give them a blank stare and say I'm not even in your account yet. People can't you end a call for 10mins and give yur attention to the person in front u? GEEZ!
I had once a customer who was texting on his phone while ordering and it went like this: customer: I'll have an espresso me: would you like a glass of water with it? **customer is texting** me: would you like a glass of water with it? **customer is still texting** me: would you like a glass of water with it? customer: oh! Sorry! I didn't get what you said! You know, man can't do two things at once! me: No, don't bring that excuse up, you're just being impolite. I asked you three times if you'd like to have a glass of water and you completely ignored me. customer: I'm sorry I didn't mean to be rude. Great and realistic video by the way! :) keep it up!
@@2bit156 Sorry I miss-understood you. But you're not wrong. I feel like we should have cup sizes displays so people know what size they want without us having to say anything tbh.

Same. Did 7 years on coffee shop. Just jumping people on phones.

Or in this case coverd with hot boiling coffee (but it would be a waste of coffee tho)

Because we have too much stupid over here and a culture of "me me me".
@@IceQueen975 I was going to say "morons" but you've covered it lol
My absolute favorite was the "can i get a criossant?" "Do u want that warmed up?" "......a criossant." 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I feel you 💕 also I want Chinese now
The whisperers are the second worst after the impatient/angry ones lol
This is why everyone should work in customer service (coffee shop, restaurant, retail, grocery store, call center, etc). Once you're on THAT side of those interactions...well...you know.
Edit: car repair shops, tow truck companies, HVAC companies, utility workers, etc. A lot of the ones I just added have to work outdoors or in/around dirty (and sometimes dangerous) stuff.
I did work some catering shit. I always been bad at customer service because everyone is a fucking idiot and should be kicked behind a dumpster.
@@KossolaxtheForesworn We need a plague.
@@jasondyrkacz8270 oh dear
No customer is without any of these sins; I didn't think about how annoying I could be sometimes. Respect to you guys that work in places like these, especially when people like these come in all the time.
I respectfully disagree that no customer is without any of these. I think it just takes being on the other side of the counter to consider it
You are projecting, many people have never done any of these things.
KevinShinwoo you are a very lucky individual if many people haven't done any of these things.
That’s such an easy drink lmfao
I died at 'Jirtha' 😂😂
I heard her said "Gym a Teacher" lol
I would've swung at half these people…
No joke, as soon as I saw the coins for the payment that reminded me of what had happened just Yesterday when a girl tried to pay for a like 4-5 dollar drink in ROLLS OF PENNIES. I made the point of having them weighed in the back and thank god one of the rolls didn't have enough because I had to give them all back and instead she used her card (
Sessho Lord I love pennies I would have bought them off her with my own money even if a few we're missing.
Older copper type ones are worth 2-3 cents each.
Mystery Buyer you’re kinda dumb
I know this a year old response...but... I feel for you. I worked at a dollar store where more than a handful of times I had to count out coins of over $30. I wasn't lucky enough to weigh the money.
oh my god when they call u by your name .........
I have an oh so funny regular who insists on calling me by the other staff members name. He knows what we are called but he finds it funny.
This is why I don’t wear my nametag
Ah, today a lady brought her java chip frapp back because she wanted it hot...
TJ The Guy 🤔
I’m not even a barista and I have to tell people all the time that frappucinos at Starbucks are blended iced drinks. They always get them mixed up with cappuccinos.
This Way To Paradise how can you mix a cappuccino and frappucino??😂😂😂 Like seriously guys you encounter the weirdest people
She... She wanted what? O. O Some people...
HUh .... hot 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
🤣🤣🤣🤣 frap is suppose to be cold.
That is so damn true and accurate.
Some might think this is overacted but let me tell you. It's not!!
Big thumb up!!!
So accurate Not exaggerated
Not to mention those who stay in line for a couple of minutes and when they reach the counter, STILL UNDECIDED WHAT TO ORDER. oh shoot😂🙄
Cris Pidlaoan okay but I’m indecisive at food/coffee places because I have an eating disorder.. remember this next time you get frustrated with somebody who takes a long time to figure out what they want.
Nah, they're okay.
I work retail, and what I hate is people who drop their stuff off at the counter, LEAVE to go shop some more and then get pissed that I decided to help the next guest instead
Those customers should all be charged extra.
my *favorite* customers are the ones that pretend that everyone else in the shop gives them a discount on their drink and they get upset when you're like "no... this is how much the drink is"
This is TOO real!
Trehan Deepa how bout 3 cubes for Frappuccino haha
And cappuccino with no foam
😑
Sherlline Lim and then you look at them like “no foam is basically getting a latte hello? You sure?” 😂
OMG theres a guy at my store who always orders six ice cubes too
*Me closing down my till and cashing off* A customer comes up and I tell them "I'm closing down, could you move along to the next till please?". *Customer still stands there for the next 10 minutes and eventually complains that they've been waiting so long and no-one has served them*. EVERY. TIME!!
Oddbodd it was always made better when they would shame you.
I've worked as a Barista for a year now. This is very accurate... People on the phone annoy me the most - or the regular customers that assume you know their drink order...
Omg, this is so real it makes me cringe
Just watching this makes me so furious!!
P.S: the girl playing the barista is frickin' gorgeous!!
pixiee Zakura aww thank you so much! :) xx
I wonder if she has plans this weekend...
@@mojo9291 hahaha!!
I HATE it when parents make their kids order like UGGGHH
Ehhha awn that shit pisses me off kid can barely speak two words n there like what do u want I think he wants his dummy bitch
Michael Owen 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
some have social anxiety! please dont think of us as spoiled or anything
Bluegreen 118 then don’t fucking order 😂
This was from 6 years ago and being a barista for the last 2 years, I have to say that this is still SO accurate! 🤣
It ages well! 😂
I didn’t realize there were chunks of peanut in it....I’ve had it so many times before” so I’m like “okay I can reblend it for you so it’s smoother if you want” and she goes “no I’ll just take a muffin in exchange”
Ok
But if you’ve had it so many times before u would know it’s a thicker drink that has WALNUTS and not peanuts in it but sure take ur damn muffin
My rule is "No refunds after consuming".
He should not have got that refund
"I want to keep the toonie.. yeah, no."

A Canadian $2 coin.
I'm Barista's favourite customer, i get cold brew.
oh my, no you didn't
"Hi! How are you today? 😊"
"I want a latte please"
You're lucky if you even get a "please" anywhere in there!
I have a friend who is LITERALLY the Asian girl on the phone. "Dieting" and giving about 57 instructions to the waiter for her requirements lol
Beth M she has the right to do that tho
As long as she is not rude
Stefan Makara no she doesn’t haha
And then bitching when it's not right, or when it's right but not what she expected. Get off the damn phone!
As a sushi shop worker I also definitely had all of these customers
“My name is Jennifer” 😂😂😂
My name is Jennifer lol
Then why is it Casey?
Madeleine Bird - lol , I was quoting the video xD
this made me do my dead-inside smile and slow blink as i completely dissociated. so yeah.
Awesome video. I have watched it several times already. And its crazy how these types of customers don't see there behavior as a problem. Great work!
You forgot the “I’m in a hurry” customer
🎃😂You are so cute.. That was funny.
Awwwwww (´・_・`)
I spend a lot of my day in coffee shops as I meet clients and travel all over the city.
When these types of people are in the queue, I really want to kill them for holding everyone up 😂
Oh my GOD, people who can't enunciate their names. I work at a restaurant, but we start taking names down when we run out of tables, so we can keep track of who's waiting for a table. And some people get really offended when you can't work out what their name is.
Tips:
-If you're in a group, choose the name that's EASIEST to say clearly
-Speak loudly and enunciate - some of us have bad hearing.
Omgggggg yesssssss! This is on point. Gave me anxiety watching this but it’s all realistic! 😂😂😂
not mention this scenario I just recently had 🙃 (I’m a barista)
Me: *puts coffee out for man who ordered it* Grande Peppermint mocha! *loud & clear no one else is in store except him*
Man: *Does not come to counter*
Me:
Man:
Me: *working on other things around store*
Man: *finally comes up to counter* “Were u just not going to call mine out?”
Me: *smiles* *tries to b friendly* Oh I did i’m so sorry! Did you not hear me?
Man: No *sips coffee and walks away*
Me: 🙃🙄
PSA people fr need to b paying attention when having drink orders called out it’s fr so aggravating bc u can’t expect the barista to remember every drink they’re putting out thankfully his was easy to remember bc he was the only one in there.
Yassss!!!
This is where I would become angry associate mode and stomp over to the customer. "Dude, I just called your order and you're the only one here. Don't play dumb with coffee."
For real!!! I work at Panera and it’s the same thing. Call someone’s name 5 times and they still don’t show up, I shouldn’t have to go find you smh
LOL!!!!! Are there so funny customers out there in real life? They are just so lovely! Thanks for sharing the video, can't stop laughing. Good job!!!!
“Batman” RAAAAAAGE.
They missed it up though, its "I'm batman" in a deep smoothing voice. That can make anyone's day actually.
people who can bear with this kind of customers have the patience of an angel. kudos to you :)
Have been a barista for 1 month now, and this is soooook accurate 😂😫
I work at a pizza joint, this is also pretty accurate, not just for coffee
People who visit coffee shops must think they're royalty or something. I do everything I possibly can to treat the baristas well when I go, because I know how hard some other people make it for them. Working in retail teaches you some valuable life lessons that just can't be learned anywhere else.
When the lady dumped the change on the counter, I totally cracked up! I have gotten customers like that before :D This was well-done. Great job!

"Hi Melissa!"
Oh my gosh that was my biggest pet peve.
So relatable!! I've seen a regular customer calls himself Batman, and his friends are superwoman and Superman 😂😂😂
Every coffee place has a Batman.
I felt Annoyed for you while watching this 😂😂
3 secs in here and I'm already in love with Melissa!
Awww that's very nice of you to say! Thanks so much 😁
You forgot the people who ask "can i have an upside down caramel machiatto" and then be like "WHY ISNT IT LAYERED?!?!"
Other than that, spot on
I applaud anyone who works in the business and deals with these kinda customers. These portrayals are so realistic they make me grind my teeth just remembering my own experiences as a customer. There's a line and everyone's working hard, but there's always that one guy/girl...
I work at a coffee shop and I'm pretty okay with most of the customers. Most of my problems come from my own shortcomings.
Also, I've never been to a Starbucks and I don't drink coffee.
Don’t be so hard on yourself.

exfactorygirl It gets better the longer you work there... and this is also just one side of the spectrum. The good customers always out weigh the strange ones! :) thank you for the kind words! xx
I always feel bad because i stutter sometimes and i dont always have enough money, i usually try and ask to check the price on my gift cards first so i know what i can afford and dont cause trouble for the employees

Most relatable and realistic video I have seen yet! Can’t wait to watch more of your videos.
When I sit in Starbucks I overhear some of the customers and their stupid and ridiculous demands. I just want to get up and give them a knuckle sandwich.
Mystery Buyer You'll have a bunch of employees being temporarily blind.
