      Hey there! I was a partner with Starbucks for 2 years and some change before transitioning out to work at a small family business in my home town. It can be done! Also the fact that you've worked for Starbucks shouldn't be something to shy away from; if you can handle that working environment, you can manage at *any* specialty cafe. Starbucks is crazy busy all the time, not to mention the stringent cleaning standards and ridiculous drink recipes...
      Working where I do know is way, way easier.

      @@Boodieman72 its not really. They have nearly every traditional espresso drink available, and any that are missing (excluding espresso tonic) can be made after a short conversation with a barista.
      They've *also* got a more... inspired menu when it comes to sugary variants on the classics, I.E. lattes, cold brew, iced coffee, you know. But Fraps? No. Those aren't coffee, those are dessert. I don't think blended beverages really bring anything to the table, specialty coffee or otherwise. I see it as a completely different medium; if you're blending it, it isn't coffee anymore. 😅

    OMG, I've just realized that "cortado" in the US means something completely different than here, in Argentina (and I think that I may include a lot of South American countries as well). If you ask for a "cortado" in Argentina, it will be almost all coffee with a little bit of milk. We call it that way cause you "cut" (cortado is "cutted in spanish) the coffee with a bit of milk. What you call "cortado" here it will be "café con Leche".

    • @bethanytalbot2445
      @bethanytalbot2445 3 роки тому +9

      Interesting! In Spain, a cafe con leche is a latte! Slightly different to the one described here, it's steamed (and usually burnt lol) milk in a tall glass that's very wet (i.e. very little foam).

    • @karigrandii
      @karigrandii 2 роки тому +2

      Cortado is always coffee with a little milk. Most speciality coffee shops ruined macchiatos and cortados because they add way too much milk to make latte art

    Just thought I’d leave this here as a suggestion. It looks like your chocolate powder, cinnamon and nutmeg are coming out of your shakers very slowly. If you add caster sugar (in a 1:1 ratio or less) into a container and mix it up then put it in your shakers it will break up the bigger clumps of chocolate powder that are clogging up your shakers. I find it helps heaps during rush hour and improves efficiency heaps. (Hope that all made sense). Love your videos tho 👌👌

    • @collettewhitcomb667
      @collettewhitcomb667 3 роки тому +74

      Wouldn't that dilute the amount of chocolate or cinnamon powder coming out? So essentially you're adding cinnamon sugar instead of just cinnamon. It makes sense, but some people don't want added sugar.

    • @alistairscott2525
      @alistairscott2525 3 роки тому +77

      That’s true. Some shakers have finer meshes tho so the sugar might not pass through. Larger things like rice also work if you don’t want the sugar. Sugar is just what my cafe uses.

      Often latte will be served in a latte glass (~8oz), so it has a bit more milk because the volume is larger than the ceramic cup (~6oz). So, you're right, their latte seems a bit smaller than normal. I would imagine some guests would find their latte strong if they are using 2oz coffee in the ceramic cup.

      Aussie and kiwi. We can share it. We definitely had it first (melb coffee from Italian immigrant community > coffee culture today) but kiwis picked it up fast because they have the same excellent taste as Aussies 👍🏻

      Most baristas don’t recommend an espresso over ice just because it “shocks” the espresso, and doesn’t taste all that great. I highly recommend an iced Americano! You can ask to add just a little water - by adding the espresso to a little bit of water, and then putting it over ice, it keeps the integrity of the espresso a lot better. But hey, maybe you’ll like it just right over ice! It’s always nice to experiment, especially when drinking different types of espresso/going to different shops.

    It’s probably appropriate to say that knowing how to order any food or drink pays homage to the culture it hails from. It’s easy to forget that modern coffee shops owe it all to their Italian roots since coffee is so big in western society. So making sure you know how to order not only makes for a better culinary experience but also pays respect to the culture behind it.

    I used to work at a small cafe for 6 months and this video sums up all my barista knowledge. Thank you you introducing the macchiato in a tiny cup as it should be. The number of customers who were mad at me, not knowing it was this small, was astronomical.
    Question for a Starbucks Barrista: Why your macchiato are so big? Is it just a latte with the macchiato etiquette?
