Super pleased for you Felt your anxiety on the last video. Glad you had a good local bike shop. I've worked in exactly that for 17 years. Thanks for supporting our industry. I've no problem with these velobuild bikes as the industry killing itself with silly prices. 👍
Thx Federico for sharing your experience. Very glad it worked out for the best. One thing all viewers of this video should embrace is the importance of a good bike shop/mechanic and their goodwill. As a community, we need to pay them just value for their services. In many cases, our DIY adventures take away from revenue they could make selling us the finished product. If we do not pay them just value for their work, we are undermining the health of our community
There are a lot of shops that won't touch a Chinese direct bike build. I know our local Trek store won't. They say it's because they don't have spec sheets and don't want to be liable. That's their excuse anyway.
Huh, you scared us a bit with the thumbnail :) I'm glad that the bike is working (it is as important as a pen, right Hambini? :) I'm curious to hear what you will have to say about it in future videos. It looks supernice even without aligned valves :) I have to say I really like the idea of custom paint, because mainstream bikes are often a bit dull to me with those washed out one-color paint jobs. It's ok for a sofa, but c'mon, race bikes should have more vibrant colors, so thumbs up for this McLaren combination. 👍
Good to see that you got it sorted and on the plus side its been assembled and safety checked by trained mechanics. Now it’s time to wear your Siroko crash test dummy kit!😂
Glad to see you have it now assembled. Now looking forward to hearing your feedback re the ride quality. Have their VBR-168 and find myself always looking forward to riding it fast
Fede what can I say apart from I’m really happy that all the issues have been diagnosed and that you are well on your way to blasting around Richmond park etc . I hope you have many thousands of trouble free miles on her !! Hopefully one day our paths he might actually cross and I can you mr McLaren build in the flesh 👍🏽
Nice, i hope it rides as you expect. I'm not far in my build, my brother painted the frame and i'm expecting my ltwoo groupset to be released by the customs. Can't wait to try it out on the first ride.
Nice bike!!! Glad it wasn't a major issue, looking forward to the reviews. Also nice hat, LA Dodgers is my team my whole life especially back in the 80's. 😂😂 I ride little ring 80% of the time, kinda hilly and super windy here and I ride a high cadence, not a grinder at all. Aloha 🤙
Federico, hello! I have a Velobuild 177 and had a similar issue with the front derailleur hanger flexing. Happy to share my experience as your 068 may have a similar issue and solution. On my bike, the issue was one of the FD hanger rivet nuts was loose and this would cause the hanger to flex when shifting the front chainrings. I initially thought nothing of it since I rarely shift to the small chainring, but eventually chain rub became an issue. My regular bike shop wasn't able to diagnose this, but I took it in for a second look at another shop and their mechanic diagnosed the issue in 30 seconds and had it fixed later that evening. It may be worth looking into this or bringing this up to your mechanic?
Hi I have a similar problem on my 068, brought it to a pro. Now I can go up and down on the big ring. But on the small ring the chain rubs the front derailleur until I am halfway up the cassette. I'll have a looks at those rivets.
I'll be really interested to hear you comments about the Goodyear tires once you've ridden them for about 100K, not from the time they are newly installed. Tires ride qualities change after installed and some miles have been ridden. Can't wait for a review because I was looking at those tires for myself.
That is a wonderful looking bike, and the Goodyear tyres are a nice touch. 8.4kg is light enough for an aero bike imho. Are you going to buy a red jersey, red shorts and a bright yellow Senna style helmet to complete the McLaren look?
How did you request/select a certain paint scheme and colors? I'm looking to get this same frame and want to do some custom colors. It's not entirely clear on their site how to accomplish that. Thanks!
I got in touch with Chris via email and explained what I wanted. He sent me a mock up and told me it was 2 colours surcharge. I then ordered the bike and added 2 colors as extra. In the notes I added the reference to what we discussed.
Bike looks great, however, to be 100% sure, I would check the previous tyre/frame clearance issue with the other wheels you might have. Dishing the wheel to fit the frame is not exactly ideal. If the workshop guys did in fact measure the dropout distance and it is confirmed to be straight and even, that would mean, that any other true wheel would fit perfectly in the center. I got a bike with the same issue and one of the dropouts is about 2-3mm offset, meaning, ether one of the dropouts is out of spec, or one the chainstays is too long/too short than the other. That makes the wheel sit in the frame a little bit crooked like yours did. Enough to bother me, but good enough to ride :)
I understand, but they confirmed that the frame was okay and the wheel slightly off. They dished the wheel to be correct and then it was okay for the frame. For me it's enough, I hope anyway 😄
Your experience with this project is probably the same for a lot of people who don't have much experience building bikes. Which is most likely why the Chinese bikes get a bad rap from so many. I have built lots of bikes over the decades and have a wealth of knowledge and tools. Whenever I am doing work on a bike and need the special tools to do the job I will buy them. Watching your previous video the dishing was the first thing I thought of too but then I thought why didn't you notice that with the wheel installed on one of your other bikes. It had me worried that the frame wasn't straight. As for the bottom bracket, every new frame you should chase the threads of the BB even if you would have gotten the cups to go in. If you haven't chased the threads later on when trying to get the cup out you may run in to a big problem because the cup will seize. Great that you weighed the bike with pedals installed, because you can't ride a bike without pedals. So, without the cost of mechanics services what did the bike cost all together? I'm guessing a bike of that caliber if it was a name brand like Scott or Cervelo would have been in the $8K to $9K range.
Yes, you are right. I got worried as the same wheel was spinning fine in the Canyon Ultimate frame and that is also labelled as max 25c tyres. This Velobuild clearance is much tighter and required the wheel to be dished exactly right. I'm still struggling with a sliding seatpost and clamp though.
@Federico Ciampella @tracevelo (Luke) had this snag and used a piece of clothing wrap plastic. The stuff that's slightly rubbery. Wrapped around seatpost. Which sorted it.
@@chriscross5689 thank you, I follow Luke, great inspiration! I eventually found a similar solution, grippy tape at the back of the seatpost and loctite threadlocker for the clamp bolt. The bolt was getting loose with the vibrations.
Hate to say, but I’ve used the goodyear tyres you have bought, and they are a bit pants. They don’t have great rolling resistance, puncture easily, feel heavy, slower and sluggish. 😥 Continental and Pirelli much better.

Good see you happy again looking ticket now👍🏻🔥🔥🔥
Bike looks cool, for the money that prime stem/handlebar looks really good. Now you need to get a yellow helmet to keep the 90s McLaren Senna vibe.
O no! Federico helmet company may not accept a new yellow guy !😀😀 awaiting for the dialogues
Looking forward to seeing this out on the road Federico. Ciao.
Congratulations Fred, looks a stunning bike, hope it rides as good as it looks , looking forward to the updates , well done, time for a few 🍻🍻

In the end it all worked out well luckily!
So happy for you that it all worked out. Really great bike you have there, a real stunner. Enjoy! 😉👍
Pleased for you Federico. I'm looking forward to seeing it on the road!
Glad for you. Such a relief that the problem was an out-of-dish wheel rather than an out-of-line frame. Looking forward to your riding impressions...
Glad to see it all work out for you.
