Butcher is always so generous with his time and willingness to tell the same stories, but it’s SO refreshing to land on an interview that doesn’t make him do so, and is instead really well-prepared, provided new insights, and is just fun.
Fantastic job on your Interview! This conversation with Jim was a breath of fresh air in a sea of previous Q&As where the same questions and answers have been regurgitated ad infinitum. Really appreciated your upping the level of difficulty and veering into unexplored thoughts/questions territory.
Damn you can just really tell when an interviewer is up to date with an author's responses to things, great job Jake. You and Jim have a great rapport and makes the whole thing feel like its just two people goofing off.
I opened this video thinking it will be a video of Jake answering frequently asked questions about Jim Butchers work and almost fell of my chair when I saw it’s an interview with the man himself. I’ll go make some lunch and watch this while having lunch… can’t wait ! Congratulations Jake for getting an interview with Butcher !
Best interview I’ve seen with Jim. I’ve searched for his interview in the past and it’s always the same boring questions that he has the same answers for. I don’t blame him that’s what I’d do too for those interviews. 😂 So I’m mad I’m just now finding this video. Well done!
Not a huge fan of the series anymore, but just want to say that I'm happy for you to interview one of your favourite authors and that Jim Butcher seems like a very chill guy :)
very cool that not only did you get him on the channel, but I'm only 3 mins in so far, and you are already asking questions that show you've paid attention to his other interviews. Excellent!!
I have watched a truly unreasonable amount of Jim Butcher interviews, and it always tilts me when people ask authors the same questions they have been asked 200 times
Thanks! I gained some sympathy for people who got repeat answers because while preparing I kept coming up with questions and realizing they would run into a default answer
Jake, this was bloody wonderful. I'm thrilled that you had the chance to talk to Jim, I can only imagine how amazing that must have felt for you. For me, it was fantastic hearing Jim talking about the character growth and back stories, and LOVED hearing him talk about how he views the pact between author and reader. Thank you so much for sharing. P.S. godammit, now I have to read Cinder Spires.
So happy for you man! Will have to listen to this tomorrow. But now that I'm here in the comments I will hear no slander against the queen of air and darkness from other commenters. I have spoken!
Thanks! The number of times while prepping I wrote a question down and then realized the answer would pivot to a stock answer gave me some sympathy for pervious interviewers.
Was really hoping to learn what character surprised him the most and how he came up with Codex Alera, but the questions you did as were pretty cool too.
@@jakebishop7822 This move has defeated me forever in trying to top you with my own Butcher fan credibility. If we were playing chess this was your checkmate. 😂
Haven't watched this yet but this makes me so happy. I know you are up to date on the latest WoJs, so I know you are going to get some new stuff out of him.

GREAT JOB!!! I want to know when Harry and Rivershoulders are going to train together :D I am going through my 7th read through the series while waiting for the next book and I still keep picking up things I didn't before. Jim is an great writer and you did a great job interviewing him!
Do you go from start to finish every time? There are some I have only read a couple times, but I have read Changes like 12 times, Skin Game 11 times and still pick things up reading them
@samuelleask1132 Jim was once asked what Harry thought of more contemporary fantasy authors, and it is confirmed that Harry really likes Sanderson, but thinks he's a little naive, and overly optimistic
@@samuelleask1132 Sorry, I don't remember, if I had to guess it was probably the reddit AMA he did leading up to Peace Talks, but that is just my guess based on my gut feeling on where specifically I saw something I would have seen years ago
I wish jim butchers lectures would be available online. Does anyone know if they are? As er person living on the other side of the planet, it can be hard to attend.
I don't think they are combined into one place, but most of them are on youtube somewhere. Although he doesn't really do lectures, he just answers questions
If Jim’s talking about inconsistency in character then why were so many characters acting whack in peace talks? And even Dresdens energy in. Battleground. Didn’t feel like a Dresden files book. Details also inconsistent and sentence structure just weird around some characters…. Interesting he brought this up when the last ptbg felt sloppy ish Brilliant interview ❤️

Yes
I think of that problem thing more as Tavi's motto than Dresden's.
