Jim is such a nice person. He is my wife and I favorite author and we met him about nine years ago at a con at a book signing. We had our infant son with us in a stroller And Jim’s face just lit up when he saw our son asked if he could hold him. He talked to us for about 10 minutes Mainly about his kids, our kids and being parents. Our son still has the picture that he got with Jim on his dresser and even though he’s still a bit young for most of his books, he will always say that Jim Butcher is his favorite author because he got to meet him.
Jim. it pleases me greatly each time I have the chance to show my admiration for your writing in the most sincere way I know of. I exchange my hard earned money for the privilege of reading your next work, and they give me great pleasure to read and then reread later. Guys, I've run I dunno, 25, maybe 30 autograph sessions for Jim Butcher and he is exactly the same guy you see here. He is kind to his fans, generous with his time, and a genuine pleasure to work with. That's just an FYI. They say "Don't meet your heroes, you'll be disappointed" but sometimes when you meet your heroes, they are genuine, first class people.
So much respect for Jim Butcher - a great writer, lots of humility (hard to find in this day and age), very approachable, the kind of guy I’d like to sit across a game table with and discuss all his awesome book ideas. He might be a little short for Dresden but alll the wizardry is there.
Jim Butcher is the only author I’ll buy before even looking into the series. I own every single one of his books that has been published so far. I’m waiting patiently for Twelve Months. I bought all of Codex Alera on audiobook before I even listened to Fury’s of Calderon. Hell I’ve bought some of his books twice, I own physical copies and audiobooks for every Dresden book. I did the same thing with The Olympian Affair. All that said I’d love for him to revisit the world of Carna, I’ve been rereading Codex Alera over the last month or two. I’m a little past the midway point in Captain’s Fury.
Jim, you are a treasure! Dresden Files will always be at the top of my list. Glad you get charged up and really apply yourself to proving people wrong!!😁
Been a fan for years. Would love to see a faithful television adaptation for any of Jim's works. (The Dresden TV series was not particularly faithful) Keep up the great work, Jim!
I was at an AMA at Comicpalooza and got to hear Jim speak. I had so many questions, but he off handedly mentioned Babylon 5, the TV show. I had to ask him who his favorite character was, and he named Londo Mollari. He said if you want to learn how to write a villain follow what JMS did for Londo.
super cool interview! never seen one with Butcher, but been a Dresden fan since i picked it up Book 1 a handful of years ago. Just finished the most recent one, so super dope to hear next is out soon🎉
One of the worst things a person can do is look up their idols or favorite artists; in that they are often disappointed.. but Gawd D'yamn! Jim jus never disappoints! Fun to listen to and totally in his own stride. Wish more people/artists were as authentic as Jim and his works 💪😁🤙
As a guy with severe back issues I feel for you. I am lucky though no severe problems for over a year. Keep active, but limit activity that could cause problems.
I'm a fairly new reader of the Dresden Files. I'm on Grave Peril. It's hard to read and write a book at the same time. I like Harry. It's a miracle he manages to survive, lol. I'm working on getting the entire series. I'm only missing seven books.
@@joshuas1834 Agreed, of course, everyone points to "Changes" as the place they know they'll never be able to put the books down again, but, avoiding spoilers, enough said! 😉
I am really hope Jim Butcher gets Dresden on Netflix or Prime video. I can say with confidence if they stay true to the books, the audience will eat it up.
Jim is so cool that I honestly just made the connection between Harry Dresden and Harry Potter. They are such different people it has somehow escaped me they had the same freaking name lol
I think with all the eagerness for 'franchise properties' that the Dresden Files would be a sure bet. It really think I'd be more invested in that story (told well) than any Marvel, Star Wars, or GRRMartin worlds. And, as a massive Tolkien fan, I would even take it over more Tolkien because - frankly - I'm not sure anyone is going to do a decent job with Tolkien anytime in the near future. I'm ready and waiting for the next Dresden book to be released.
A new Dresden File TV series would be great on a streaming app. MAX, Prime, or Hulu. Just not Netflix as they cancel anything half way decent after 1 season. Make each book a season (stick little short episodes in to tell the short stories before and between). The most important thing is set it in the 90/early 00s. When people still used land lines and the internet was just revving up. Lastly, you have to cast Nicholas Braun as Harry. He is mid 30s, 6'7, lean, with hawkish features.
Jim Butcher using Buffy and Babylon 5 as inspiration was a good idea. They started out meh and then got better and better , just like the Dresden files.
Would like to hear Jim’s ideas on a Star Wars sequel trilogy. Especially, if you could turn it into a movie trilogy and a book series. But he would have to have complete creative control, with a little bit of input from George.
The Cinder Spires are absolutely blowing me away so far Jim!, amazing characters and setting, loving it even more than Dresden and co. Sholy hit!, I started the Lord of the Rings at the same age for the same reason!, and the Alan Dean Foster novels!
They oughta have at least an outline-says the fella what plotted out a twenty book series with a big old doorstop trilogy to cap the ending for a college course… 😂
James Marsters is too short to be Harry. His height is constantly mentioned as a big part of his look. Angel towered over Spike, and Boreanaz is "only" 6'1" Never heard Jim comment on Disney Wars, glad to hear him dump on them as they so rightly deserve. I hope he finishes Dresden before I die. Glad to hear him say he is ramping up speed again.
10:11 I was not a fan of Blackthorne's Dresden. He was a solid cop but didn't feel like Harry to me. It could have been some of the big things that made Harry, Harry. No duster, which was a huge part of the character, his staff and wand being a hockey stick and drum stick, and Bob being a wizard spirit vs a spirit of intellect. Karen was supposed to have short blonde hair, just so different from the books it was off putting for me personally...still watched it and bought on DVD but would have preferred a more book accurate adaptation. I love the audio book and physical books, read and listened on audible to all of them. To me James Marsters is Dresden to me and would have been amazing, I also thought Benedict Cumberbatch could have pulled it off.
I used to write video games, mostly Atari and C-64. Piracy was a thing, and to be open, I was as guilt as anyone... Let's face it, most of what was out there was crap. So If I grabbed a game, a tool, any software that I found to be valuable; even though I'd pirated it, I'd go out and buy a copy! Let the author get paid. Jim is right, it's too easy to pirate Dresden Files, especially the audio versions... But if you do, consider paying for them after the fact. Consider it a courtesy to the artist. Sort of like tipping your waiter.
I'd be a success if I was half as popular as him. I'd listen to the audiobooks daily at work if I could. And that is saying something cause I wasn't a huge fan of the narration.
He put out two massive books, back to back, some short stories, and a graphic novel all set in Dresden Files, while also working on his other series. He’s doing just fine on release schedules.
@ I want the next Dresden files book. I really don’t like the other ones. I’m just being a comment on the internet I don’t expect him to see this or answer. Just venting alittle impatience

Writing Storm Front in college out of spite explains a lot.
In terms of motivation, not the worst
I can tell that there is a lot of Jim in Harry Dresden by the way he speaks. It's really cool.
Ironically i picked up Storm Front at the grocery store because it said “As seen on SciFi” and i remembered the series.
