    This Scherzo is one of my favorite compositions of all time. I've been a fan of Yundi's interpretation for quite a long time, but I have always felt like it's sometimes not enough of softness and sensuality in his performance. Now I found what I've been looking for in this video. The best interpretation so far, IMHO.

    This Scherzo theme is based on Polish folk Christmas Carol, I know it very well since my childhood.... Chopin put it in an elegant form and added his emotions and built the whole structure around it. Touching

    Not only is this interpretation poetic and an utterly brilliant realization of a formidably difficult score it also exhibits an uncanny MATURITY -- a probing insightful sense of WISDOM as to what the piece is really all about -- a tempestuous EVENT where Chopin throws all caution to the winds and abandos himself to reveling in the bizarre kind of beauty inherent in SORROW, BITTERNESS and genuine TRAGEDY. Aimee is not only a GREAT pianst, she has at a very young age become a sublimely gifted ARTIST. Gd bless you, Aimee. You are a treasure.

    That rendering of the middle 'Lento' section (actually in B-Major, if my ears are correct), is heavenly. It is so sublime, that words cannot do it justice.

    This is a VERY unique interpretation.
    The performance was not only dramatic and poetic, but had a “storyteller” kind of character that I was attracted to. She demonstrated so many colors stretched certain sections very well. I loved how there was good space in between segments, and together with how she gives a lovely breathing time for the music, the overall piece was cohesive in such a wonderful way.
    Also, I’d like to remark that her hands are quite small, but she surpasses this with a beautifully played Scherzo. She’s fantastic.

    What an extraordinary performance of one of my most beloved works of Chopin. I’ve never heard anything like this. It seems as if the B minor Scherzo was always a beautiful but locked treasure chest and that here, Aimi has found the key and opened the box for the first time.

    Wow! I was partial to Pogorelich's interpretation, which is extremely nuanced and emotional while still being virtuosic and mind-numbingly fast. But I really like her phrasing and the emotion she communicates through her playing-- so much so that this recording is now tied with Pogorelich's to me for my favourite.

    6:23 reminds me of a polish christmas carol called Lulajże jezuniu (it’s in a different key i believe though) Idk if it’s coincidence but everytime i hear this it reminds me of that. Wondering if chopin did it on purpose or not...
    edit: i did some reasearch and found out he used the motif!

    • @aidanfurst8512
      @aidanfurst8512 4 роки тому +4

      Yep, this piece was written while Chopin was in Vienna and the Polish/Russian war was happening in Poland. News kept coming in about the conflict and there was nothing he could do to help. In his letters to Poland he describes venting his rage on the piano.
      I've always loved this piece, the chistmas carol middle section is like getting lost in a nostalgic memory, only to have it interrupted when you remember where you are. Those dissonant chords that interrupt that section are so striking, wrenching you back into reality.

But she's chosen to play the first concerto, which I'm actually looking forwards to, because we've only seen her play the first movement---hearing her play the second and third movements would be a REAL TREAT! I believe she can really add new perspectives and interpretation unheard of thus far to the first concerto! Would be such a gift to the world!
