I've heard red line was a really good oil I haven't tried it but I think I should after seeing your analysis. For the past 2 years my personal favorite oil I've been using has been royal purple high performance Street or HPS for short. It's supposed to be comparable to Red Line as far as the type of additives they use. I believe when I looked at the oil analysis a while back on the Royal Purple HPS had like 1,200 ppm phosphorus and I believe around 1,150 ppm zinc. It also had quite a bit of Molly and I believe the calcium was around 1,100 ppm. I've noticed more performance oriented motor oils that are not licensed and regulated by the API typically have a much stronger and better additive package. If you notice pretty much all the oils you have listed except red line the zinc and phosphorus was around 6 to 700 parts per million that's because oils that are licensed under the API are strictly regulated on what type of additives and how much they can put in the oil because the EPA claims if your engine Burns oil the zinc and phosphorus will turn to Ash and clog your catalytic converters but personally I have never seen proof this is just what they claim. Ideally if you want the best out of a good motor oil you want to look for the more high performance oriented oils that are not regulated by the API just make sure it's under a reputable brand. And if your vehicle is still under manufacturer warranty you might want to go ahead and stick with oils that are licensed under the API just so you don't void your warranty.
I used to have an occasional light timing chain rattle on startup. Since I’ve had the Amsoil SS and Amsoil filter on it’s gone away. It’s been about a week now with no noise whatsoever. MPGs seems to have gone up a little bit as well so I’ve been very happy with it.
I mean just because it works for you and your situation doesn't mean that the Amsoil xl isn't better or there's not something else better that's more efficient
@@FordBossMe I plan on trying other oils to see how they perform. I commented before saying that Royal Purple HPS will most likely be the next oil I try in my vehicle. Question- after all these oil tests, what’s your thought for my best choice, use the Synergy SRT or the Amsoil XL for my Ford Maverick ecoboost 2.0? Certainly either be fine but your choice? Thanks for time and help deciding for me! Regards.
In order to get a better picture is to do 2 oil changes before changing brands. The reason I say that is because a good quality oil will actually clean up the engine and start getting better improvements over time. Those viscosity numbers show if the oil deflects and prevents sludge. Amsoil is very good at keeping the same viscosity pretty much the same throughout its time in engine.
@FordBossMe Yes and the detergent package that Amsoil uses is designed to trap the dirty particle and suspend them to be captured by the filter. The main reason I use Amsoil is because of the way they test and design their oils. Their chemist use the best of what is available and they test over and over to find out the best amounts of the additive package. I am impressed with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. I just recently started seeing more on Valvoline. I am not a fan of Mobile1 at all.
Back in the 70s I worked at the shell refinery in deer park texas. At that shell had the worst motor oil on the market also their regular leaded 92 octane would make anything you put it in knock. That leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I have been told their 5 40 rotella diesel oil is very good. These days I believe they sub out motor oil through a company in houston. Ironic how once you have been burned it really stays with you.
I used Mobil one truck oil in my 2016 GMC 5.3 engin in my truck. I had around 50,000 miles on the truck. The cam and lifters went. I was just out of the warranty time.
I really like your content 🙏👌 wonder how’d the analysis would be with marvel mystery oil added to all them oils you tested 🤔 I’m surprised with redline because I’ve always used XL in my f150 since I purchased it in 2012.
I've been subscribed to your channel for awhile now and you have helped me with content you have put out. I was just wondering if you would ever try Quaker State Full Synthetic oil that used to be Quaker State Ultimate Durability full synthetic? I have ran this a number of times but I have seen no one that has had it tested. Just a thought for an upcoming oil change on one of your vehicles on the channel. Thanks for the help that you put out there for everyone. What you do is appreciated. Have a good one.
@@FordBossMe No. It's called Quaker State Full Synthetic now. It used to be called Quaker State Ultimate Durability full synthetic. The advanced durability is synthetic blend or conventional oil.
I wonder if Quaker State will be close to Pennzoil. Both owned by Shell. In the store Quaker State, Pennzoil and Rotella share the same bottles/jugs. The graphics/ writing is close too.
I feel like the Quaker State full synthetic oil is a step above the Pennzoil products in performance but that is just personal opinion with no testing so it would be nice to see a test done but I'm not pushing for it to be done if Rich has too much going on already.
I drive very hard miles,I use penzoil and its good, but my mile are less than 20 milesa in thecity only. I will change in two thosand miles,I will try xl amsoil and will go 50000 mile rub a test like you did.Stay tuned.
It appears that amsoil xl may be using the same base oil as pennzoil ultra platinum and just changing part of the additive package, very similar results.
Great content !! Very informative thank you for you hard work and your persistence. Where are you guys finding Penzzoil Ultra Platinum 0w20. I can’t find it anywhere? It’s out of stock
That Mobil 1 is 5w-20. I bet it was 8.9 new and sheared down 7.53 in 3,000 miles. That's why it was louder than the other oils. I'm just guessing though. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Rich, so let me ask you, I know you liked the XL better than SS, but I heard you mention a few times, that Boron was a great additive for bearings and such, wouldn't something with high Boron be better for my 2017 Ram 1500 Hemi, being the Hemi has the occasional lifter and cam issue? Or should I look at the bigger picture in your comparison of the 2? Love you channel sir.
I would say give it a shot on your personal vehicle and see how you like it because everybody's results are not going to be the same I think you're on to the right track
Crazy how low the hot viscosity of Mobil dropped to. Wonder if this is also why my engine seems noisy towards the end of an OCI. Trying PUP next but not sure whether to go to a 30 or a 40 grade. I've heard the PUP 5w30 is thin for a 30, closer to a 20.
So there was a mistake in a Mobile Oil testing I listed this oil as 5W30 but it was actually 5W20 which will affect how low the oil test I then went back later and a five oil shootout brand new virgin oil and mobile tested the worst out of all five oils
I like the Zinc and the Boron. Seems to be the best combo for the TC. Something about the zinc in panthers. Moly is good, but I guess if you focus on others and just somehow make a really good combo of addictives for the oil, it works out. I have found Royal Purple to be the best I’ve tried because of you. I personally didn’t like the noise level of the Rotella. But I got the oil for $15 for 6 quarts. I must have found a cheat code at the auto zone. I’d like to try the Red Line, but for the price… Can’t wait to see the LiquidMoly oil!
That is good, Walmart has always been $25 even just for the Platinum. But last time I purchased it, it was up to $27. Which is frustrating since Pennzoil had a profit margin of over 1 billion in 2021.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I could have swore the amsoil signature was 5w20? I'm curious to how that affected the numbers vs 5w30s? I would think ths viscosity would be different at a minimum? I watch most of the videos and I wondered that along time ago
@@FordBossMe ya it didn't perform terrible by any means I just thought it would have don't better is all but that's why we test, I switched to amsoil diesel/marine for my 02 duramax and in my boat when t6 became impossible to find so far seems fine but always wonder about switching back can't beat walmarts price and I know the key is just changing it
I've already covered this I actually have videos on here and on tiktok on this very topic it's decent oil but it's really nothing to brag about it's just a basic oil
Hey brother! Love the content. Could you make a video of the top 3 or so oils you’ve found from your own testing? I think I remember you listing them but can’t find the video anymore. Thanks man!
I mean I have made those videos and it's really easy for me to answer that for you right now and obviously as I continue to test oils that may change but as of right now the best oil I have tested is Redline 5W30 but it's expensive so if we're going to look at oils that are affordable overall Depends on Platinum line specifically the ultra and the Valvoline extended protection high mileage Ultra and the Valvoline extended protection and the Valvoline advanced are the best oils I've seen so far that are found at Napa or Walmart or on Amazon
Could you test for another more affordable oil that Kirkland oil that you use to lube up the pistons on the 1.5 ecoboost rebuild with the coolant Intrusion ?
Brother you got to wait unless you send it to me directly I'm not making anything jump the line I've got like four different types of oils coming in right now that everybody's saying do this oil do that oil do this oil do that oil and I'm like I have to just do whatever works until people start sending me oil to bump the line I'm going to keep doing it as I see fit
I have watched this several times and have paid careful attention to the stats. Based on the things that seem to be very important to you it would seem to me Royal Purple would shine brighter to you. It does cost more than the Pennzoil but not alot more like the Amsoil or Redline.
Might be good to know what the oils started with as well as opposed to comparing whats left. They aren't all equal to start. New car with a 2.5 turbo can't use Pennzoil Ultra 😕 Pennzoil doesn't make a 0W30 in Ultra and the Euro version does meet the spec.
I tried Amsoil small engine oil in my fleet of commercial mowers and instantly the engines became noisy and clattery both Kohler and Kawasaki. In addition they began consuming oil at a high rate and we could even smell the oil in the exhaust when we were mowing. Not a fan at all of synthetic oil in small air cooled engines. I have always used conventional small engine oil with excellent longevity. Not saying Amsoil is bad but this was our experience with 8 different mowers.
@@jdigitalseven7 Yeah I was not too happy with the results. My brother in law tried it in his Ford Expedition and instantly noticed the engine became noisy and clattery. IDK what to else to say?
@@CedroCronGlad to hear that. The thing that really blew me away was sudden increase in oil consumption in all my machines. The noise factor I suppose one could argue whether it is a factor in wear or not.

Sure I would love to take the parts a four quart drug that's been sealed for a year is a good jug of oil there's nothing wrong with that shake it up real good dump it in
I typically use Pennzoil Platinum, but recently I had 6 Quarts leftover of Amsoil OE that I had purchased for my EX Girlfriend. So I figured I would just give it a shot since I had, and it made my Engine so loud it was cringe worthy. And you know how a car sounds when you turn the key while a Engine is already on, that's how all of my dry starts were sounding now. So within a few hundred miles I took that stuff out and put the Penn Platinum back in. Even for about a week after putting the pennzoil back in, I was getting those cringe worthy dry starts, but just every now and then,, and now it's been months since that has happened.
@@FordBossMe I hear ya, I guess everyone just sticks with what works but I'm willing to try if I hear enough good things. On the bottle it says that Full Synthetic is formulated for Turbo Charge Engines, so I've just shyed away.
Amsoil announced that their XL oil has been reformulated to make it stronger for longer. It would be interesting to test it to see how it compares to the old XL formula and the signature series, supposedly their top of the line oil. Rich, I would be willing to send you the new XL formula if you are interested in testing it. Thanks for all the comprehensive oil videos! Oil is still cheap and engines are expensive! I don't really like Pennzoil Platinum regular because it doesn't seem to be as good as Pennzoil full synthetic and that was a couple other UA-camrs came to that conclusion as well as people individually said they got better results with the regular full synthetic Pennzoil and then the next one up the top dog would be the ultra was really really good but the Platinum wasn't really that great

Their chemist use the best of what is available and they test over and over to find out the best amounts of the additive package. I am impressed with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. I just recently started seeing more on Valvoline. I am not a fan of Mobile1 at all.
I'm normally a penzoil person going to try amsoil oe my next oil change.
I really like your content 🙏👌 wonder how’d the analysis would be with marvel mystery oil added to all them oils you tested 🤔 I’m surprised with redline because I’ve always used XL in my f150 since I purchased it in 2012.
thanks 4 the continued work! and knowledge 👍
Once my current stash runs out I’ll give the pennzoil a try and run my own used own analysis on it.
I'll order it right now
I see advanced durability is that the one?
Great video. That is a LOT of good info. Thanks!
I drive very hard miles,I use penzoil and its good, but my mile are less than 20 milesa
in thecity only. I will change in two thosand miles,I will try xl amsoil and will
go 50000 mile rub a test like you did.Stay tuned.
Great job on the testing and sharing the results. Can’t wait to see the liqui moly results
Kendall Motor Oil has titanium as an additive . that would be an interesting test.
Yeah I bought 12 quarts of the GT1 titanium formula or whatever it's called along with about $700 worth of other oils
How often should I change oil on my 2019 Toyota Rav4 hybrid, thanks
Thanks for the info, it is appreciated
It appears that amsoil xl may be using the same base oil as pennzoil ultra platinum and just changing part of the additive package, very similar results.
Isn't Penz UP made strictly from natural gas?
Great content !! Very informative thank you for you hard work and your persistence. Where are you guys finding Penzzoil Ultra Platinum 0w20. I can’t find it anywhere? It’s out of stock
Can't find it
Amazon
Fantastic video, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for doing these tests 👍👍👍👍
That Mobil 1 is 5w-20. I bet it was 8.9 new and sheared down 7.53 in 3,000 miles. That's why it was louder than the other oils. I'm just guessing though. Thanks for sharing!
Hey what you recommend me to buy because am confused F250 2017 -2020 or 2015-2018 Chevrolet HD2500
Try to get a 6.2 L in an F250 and you'll be more than happy
Good video thanks for sharing.
Do you think I could mix Ultra platinum with the regular platinum? Like 1Qt of reg. And 5qt of ultra???
Yeah but probably won't make much of a difference
Platinum None Ultra has a stronger oxidative value and ultra has a higher adpack and a little better cold flow
Have you tried Amsoil OE oil? Would be interesting to compare.
I can but it'll be way in the future
@@FordBossMe Would you go with PUP 5w30 over Mobil 1 5w30 in your own car? Thx for all the info, going to go find your other comparison video now
Thanks for the video, it's very informative.
I’d like to try the Red Line, but for the price…
Can’t wait to see the LiquidMoly oil!
@FordBossMe, if red line has that much zinc. I may have to try it. Idc if I gotta pay then.
If you had a Toyota that took 0w-16 & you can only get Mobil-1 locally, that is what the dealer uses. What would you order?
Use whatever you can locally that you feel comfortable with
Believe it or not I find the best price on Pennzoil Platinum Ultra at Home Depot for about 24.00 5qt jug
I checked Home Depot and only found Platinum, not Ultra Platinum. Share a link of the Ultra if you can find it.
That is good, Walmart has always been $25 even just for the Platinum. But last time I purchased it, it was up to $27. Which is frustrating since Pennzoil had a profit margin of over 1 billion in 2021.
@@ChrisWilliams-nu1sf he probably meant the Platinum, it's a common mistake.
@@jeffreyzabawski4862 yes you are correct my mistake
Good deal. I just spent $110 on my amsoil change haha
Rich, Have done any testing with Havoline Pro RS? I'd be interested in the results from that one.
What series Redline motor oil were you running? That's so crazy, I never would have thought!
The red high end version, I have it in the library
@@FordBossMe What are your thoughts that their oil isn't GF-6 rated? Would you still consider it better than the pennzoil platinum?
Correct me if I'm wrong but I could have swore the amsoil signature was 5w20? I'm curious to how that affected the numbers vs 5w30s? I would think ths viscosity would be different at a minimum? I watch most of the videos and I wondered that along time ago
I'd have to go back and look real quick and it may be 5W20
The xl is formulated different so.its supposed to be better surprisingly
I'm not to worried about the #s with signature series honestly and if I have to rerun it I will it's no problem
@@FordBossMe ya it didn't perform terrible by any means I just thought it would have don't better is all but that's why we test, I switched to amsoil diesel/marine for my 02 duramax and in my boat when t6 became impossible to find so far seems fine but always wonder about switching back can't beat walmarts price and I know the key is just changing it
What are your thoughts on motorcraft full synthetic? Thanks.
I've already covered this I actually have videos on here and on tiktok on this very topic it's decent oil but it's really nothing to brag about it's just a basic oil
Any chance you could look into the European full synthetics from valvoline and mobil. I’m looking to use the 5w-40 in my 03 bmw 2.5
Yes
I watched it 2 times that I can remember
Hey brother!
Love the content.
Could you make a video of the top 3 or so oils you’ve found from your own testing?
I think I remember you listing them but can’t find the video anymore.
Thanks man!
I mean I have made those videos and it's really easy for me to answer that for you right now and obviously as I continue to test oils that may change but as of right now the best oil I have tested is Redline 5W30 but it's expensive so if we're going to look at oils that are affordable overall
Depends on Platinum line specifically the ultra and the Valvoline extended protection high mileage Ultra and the Valvoline extended protection and the Valvoline advanced are the best oils I've seen so far that are found at Napa or Walmart or on Amazon
@@FordBossMe thank you
What oil filter would you reccomend?
Motorcraft or Fram Ultra or Fram Titanium or Puralator Boss or Wix / Napa
@@FordBossMe appreciate it
What would you recommend for a mostly Ford fleet with long idling times ?
Just add 1 qt of Red Line to boost additive package of any good oil.
How about the gear 75w-90 oils?
Not yet
What Royal Purple oil did you test? Was it the API spec, HPS or XPR?
In the library
I have watched this several times and have paid careful attention to the stats. Based on the things that seem to be very important to you it would seem to me Royal Purple would shine brighter to you. It does cost more than the Pennzoil but not alot more like the Amsoil or Redline.
Valvoline Extended Protection and Schafers 9000 Supreme is 2 of the top 5 goats
Seems like Amsoil only works well if you are an independent seller of it
@@jdigitalseven7 Yeah I was not too happy with the results.
Wow, I had opposite results.
@@jdigitalseven7 Watch Project Farm and see how Amsoil Did Your comments are way off
I would go every 4,000 miles, if not sooner with full synthetic engine oil for my personal Toyota.😉🙏👍
I change my oil every 3000 miles and I use great oil and I don’t care and my vehicles never break down
Really good review of oil video.
New subscriber here. I am so glad I've been using pennzoil for as long as I have. But I do want to know. What oil filter DO YOU recommend? I use either bosch, k&n or wix.
I personally like using the 20,000 mile rated Purolator boss or the Fram Ultra or Fram titanium
Rich
What’s your opinion on 4 quart jug that is around a year old. It’s been sealed tight?
Also I have some 4.6 parts I would like to give you if you can use them, I would rather not throw them away. Only 10k on them.
Sure I would love to take the parts a four quart drug that's been sealed for a year is a good jug of oil there's nothing wrong with that shake it up real good dump it in
Thx
Does it matter if the penzoil is made with crude or natural gas? Not sure if thus is a stupid question. I'm not sure?
I'm sure it does
Yeah when I ran amsoil signature series in my duramax LBZ I was using oil pretty heavily. Went to rotella t5 no issues
The Pennzoil full synthetic is better than the Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic
Can't believe people still do 10k plus mile oil changes.
I have some
I keep coming to the same conclusion. It's better to spend the money on more frequent oil changes than on the oil.
Absolutely
Can you do one for “wolves pack oil”?
I would love to hear your professional Opinion on the difference between Pennzoil Platinum and pennzoil ultra Platinum. When I try to compare them my amature self, it looks like Ultra is more for performance vehichles/ V8 Engines. But when I bring that up, people tend to disagree with me.
I don't really like Pennzoil Platinum regular because it doesn't seem to be as good as Pennzoil full synthetic and that was a couple other UA-camrs came to that conclusion as well as people individually said they got better results with the regular full synthetic Pennzoil and then the next one up the top dog would be the ultra was really really good but the Platinum wasn't really that great
You have to run the tests on these oils to see which perform better. Like the bearing test, the noack volatility, pour test, etc.
No those tests only do so much
I prefer real life tests that show much more
@@FordBossMe That is true. You are doing real life testing. Without including money, what would be your #1 for a 2.7 Ecoboost engine? I like the results of the Purple, but one of the additives was low if I remember correctly.
I got a 2015 65000 miles is motor 5w 20 good oil with motor craft oil filter i do my oil changes at 3500 4000 max jus want something that will give me best protection for the long run.
It's a 5.0
If you read your owner's manual it says you can use 5W20 or 5W30 I would be using 5W30
Is motor craft synthetic blend good i was thinking of using Pennzoil on it with motor craft filter.
doesnt pertain to the story but i have a 2021 xlt chrome package rapid red truck.this morning on the way to bodyshop to work i was gaining on a truck i looked down i was doing 63 easy to do in a 55mph.i live in mn.i started to look at this truck a tad closer in front of me.at first i thought it was a new ford but construction truck the closer i got i saw sheriff on the back tailgate.i mean it was brand new just had gold stickers put on tailgate shiny black so i backed off thank goodness i did.and thank goodness he was watching 5 deer all in a row jumped off a hillside on a mad run he slammed them brakes he stopped real fast and he probaly crapped himself but he saw me behind him and slowed way down around the curve to make sure i was ok.2 new fords fighting the deers here.and even weirder i was listening to fm on my 12 inch screen second date update on a station.i made it 4 more miles turning into work driveway suddenly the fm program switched to am and first words where your lucky 2 people talking on a am station weird morning
Just curious you opinion please , what about say 2 gts of Ultra , 2 gts of XL and 2 gts of Red Line . Then run a test on the mixed brands ??? Thanks for all your hard work !……
How well do the motorcraft oils test?
I have a test on a exorer st I sent out in the library check it out - it's good stuff

If I'm remembering correctly didn't you use 5w20 signature series and then 5w30XL in a motor rated for 5w30? Obviously not detrimental to the motor but in my opinion not a fair comparison. Great video though appreciate the information!
I've told you I'm rerunning it again I did acknowledge the fact that I made a mistake and put 5w30 on the paperwork I don't know why this is new I don't know why we're bringing this up again I have no clue why you guys can't get a simple message of yes I made a mistake yes I admitted to it I wrote it wrong on the paperwork yes I reordered the extended performance oil and I took a picture of it recently and put it in the community tab for everybody to see I've got the 5W30 that I'm going to try
how is that not clear?
I'm going to start removing people for being silly about stuff and trying to get underneath my skin and making it seem like they actually have something of value to talk about like they're trying to prove some kind of point or call somebody out I'm going to start removing people because I'm tired of it
