My dad obsessed over PB and J. When he went to Vietnam he loved the rations that had it. From then on, his favorite quick fix was a PB&J with coffee or a Dr.Pepper. lol Miss ya old man.
There is nothing like a good peanut butter and banana sandwich! It's matter of fact I think you just talked me into grabbing one for snack this afternoon. Lol!
I think he needs to try a bacon, lettuce and tomato on toasted bread with mayonnaise sandwich. A great variation is bacon, lettuce and avocado. Some nice french fries fried in lard would go well with it. So wonderful how much he enjoys the foods you lovingly prepare for him. You two are a joy to watch. 😄
Ahwww bless you, what a happy cheery gentleman. I remember the first time I had a peanut butter and jam sandwich at secondary school. Every time my friend L, brought it to school she'd say try it, you'll like it. I would never try it, just didn't like the sound of it. This went on for months. Then.... One day I reluctantly tried it. I couldn't believe it had taken me so long, I loved it. Bless her heart, she brought in peanut butter and jam sandwich for the next two weeks so we could swap. The "foster carers"!!! I was living with, wouldn't let me have them. We would swap quite regularly. I was concerned taking her pbj but she did it so I could have it, and said she can have them any time. What a wonderful friend. ❤️
Babs, you you did a nice job making a p.b. & j sandwich 🥪 I've seen several videos of other non-Americans who mess up the sandwich by not putting enough peanut butter or jelly on the bread. You used the correct amounts!
Parents emigrated from Ireland, could not stand peanut butter, but they always had it for my brother and I 😂. Even after we were long out of the house she still bought it for her squirrel’s, she gave them toast and peanut butter every morning
Not sure if this was how you liked them, but when the toast is nice and hot and just starts to melt a thin layer of peanut butter... Wonderful stuff! Thanks for the story - lucky squirrels.
I loved how granddad just dove in with a great big bite! Glad he enjoyed it! In Canada we like strawberry jam with sliced banana, peanut butter and a nice glass of cold milk….💖
@@BeDecent3My father introduced me to PBBLTs years ago. I made them for him a few months ago. I couldn't think of anything worse haha! I am guessing Grandad Joe likes Peanut Butter. Can't stand it myself but glad Grandad Joe enjoyed it. Will make his American fans very pleased
Banana slices IN the PB&J sandwich. Or just banana and peanut butter sandwich. Those were my favorites as an American schoolchild. Happy Christmas Grandad Joe!
We do have this in the UK too, mainly eaten by younger kids. My dad would have been 91 now if he was still here, he got me in to peanut butter. and although he wasn't a pb&j guy, he had loved peanut butter since he was a kid. Although it was already sold here in the UK by then, he was introduced to it during ww2, when his family had some US soldiers, who were stationed here, staying on the family farm, housed in lodgings there, which is where my dad was brought up ( this is in the UK, England to be precise) and the soldiers staying there used to sneak my dad peanut butter sandwiches every now and then! This was in 1945, just as the war was coming to an end, my dad was only a kid aged about 9, and as the soldiers were going home, and had no need for it, they left a lot of their rations and supplies behind as a gift, a thank you to my dad's family for their hospitality and looking after them during their stay, and this included some really big industrial sized cans of peanut butter, that had to be opened with one of those old fashioned can openers. And they lasted my dad from 1945 until around 1952, which was around the time he went to do his national service in the British army. He seemed to remember there were one or two cans left when he joined up, but a few years later, when he came out of the army, and met my mum, his family farm had been sold, and he never saw those cans ever again. But he started buying it for himself. There's a brand if peanut butter here calmed "Sun-Pat" which is particularly nice. That was his favourite. My dad passed on his love for peanut butter to me. Out of his 7 children, I think I'm about the only one who really liked it. I really liked pb&j myself as a kid, but I'm 47 now, also diabetic, and now I'm older I prefer my peanut butter with more savoury accompanying ingredients. Less sweet. Although, every now and then I'll have a peanut butter and banana sandwich with a tiny amount of Nutella! But having more savoury food than sweet, my favourite sandwich at the minute is made using some thick slices of good quality soft but crusty bread, thickly buttered, then on one slice I will grate some nice strong English or Welsh cheddar, then I will slice some gherkins (pickles) and lay those slices on, then a drizzle of heinz salad cream, (it's like a sweeter mayo with more vinegar in it, usually used for dressing salads) and then the top slice of bread is thickly spread with crunchy peanut butter and placed on top to create an excellent sandwich. You must squash the assembled sandwich flat with your hand, leaving a big handprint in the bread. It makes it taste even better. Sometimes I might include some good quality ham or pastrami too. And if the kid in me wakes up while I'm preparing it, I might aldo add some potato crisps (chips) or corn snacks like Doritos, Cheetos or something similar in to the sandwich too. And as it is Christmas soon, the wednesday after next, I'll be sat at home, tucking in to my Christmas version of that sandwich, in which I will add in some left over turkey and gammon ham from dinner, and maybe some condiment like cranberry sauce or something called Branston pickle, which is a pickled fruit and vegetable relish, that goes well with everything! It works surprisingly well with peanut butter. But it's a savoury, not sweet combo, so maybe not to everyone's liking! I would recommend trying my sandwich at least once in your life. You might hate it, or it could be one of the nicest things you ever try. And I really do think it's worth trying. On Christmas night, that sandwich will be my supper, alongside a hot chocolate with marshmallows and Bailey's and a few hot mince pies with brandy butter ice cream on. (I'm diabetic, so other than the baileys, I make the rest of the things like marshmallows, the ice cream and the mince pies from scratch, using a sugar substitute, so nothing should spike my blood sugar levels! But, it is Christmas, and I don't mind it jumping up a bit at Christmas!, everyone deserves a treat) Merry Christmas to you, and if you don't celebrate Christmas I still hope you have a week or two of fun and relaxation. Everyone deserves a few days off at least once a year!
