When my dad was far into alzheimer’s one of the only things that calmed him was a video of the Aggie band. he was a member in 1939. 40. 41 and then was commissioned as a lt and was sent to war. he was a pilot and at one point was a prisoner of war. he was 5’2” and looked about 12 years old. he escaped and ended up doing some heroic acts…he would not speak of them.. and was awarded the bronze star..twice. He spent 30 years in the army reserve but he found joy in watching the Aggie band. we played the Aggie war hymn at his funeral. thanks for the reminder.

Why don't you publish his name here to memorialize and enshrine it?

I wish I could thank your Dad for his heroic service to our country and for such honorable service. Gives me goosebumps. I know he was honored at Aggie Muster and Silver Taps. I hope you got to go to campus for the ceremony. Class of '81.❤❤❤

What isn’t mentioned is how much German and Czech heritage we have in central Texas. Fun to see a German reaction to Texas precision.

Thank you much for your accurately gracious, complimentary comments about the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band. Please visit Texas A&M in College Station Tx on a football weekend some autumn, enjoy watching the Band perform on Kyle Field, meet some fantastically friendly Texas folks, and eat the best barbecue in the world. You will LOVE it!

A&M is Military focused so they do formations instead of pictures like you see from bands like Ohio State. Each require you to memorize the music, play well, and count steps in sync with your fellow band mates. High School usually practices for 2 to 3 months and colleges can be a couple of weeks or less.

As a Texan with many Aggie relatives, it is great to see that the FTAB is being witnessed and appreciated around the World.
They used to televise the half-time shows on TV during the games.
I appreciate that you used the full screen for the band and PiP for your comentary.

I started Marching Band when I was 13. I wasn't good enough for university. These students work very hard to do this

Class of 78. The band practices about 2 1/2 hrs a day, before breakfast. Each week is a new show so that's six a year. The whole performance is based on trust in your fellow band members.

The student side stands for the entire game. You can stand or sit on the other. Gig em Aggies!

This is the original 12th man tradition. Football us 11 per side. In school history a student had to take the field during a game to replace an injured aggie. Thus all students and dates continuously stand to signal they are all ever ready to join the fight. Aggies also kiss their dates on each score. You havent experienced a college football game until you were in the stands at Kyle field. With their yell leaders and aggie band cookin it will make your heart stop!

I’m an Aggie and am very familiar with Texas A&M and the Corps of Cadets of which the Aggie Band is a part of. It’s a very unique style of military marching. To say it’s difficult to learn is an understatement. It takes hours every day to learn (which is in addition to your studies) because each week’s halftime performance drill is different and gets progressively more complex and challenging, ultimately culminating into the most highly anticipated and most complex drill called the 4-Way Cross-Through at halftime of the last home football game. You should search for that. It will blow your mind. There’s nothing like it.

I typically don't watch review videos because I'm not a huge fan of the pausing. But your fun, spirited energy makes my heart smile. The *FTAB* is - in my opinion - one of the best college marching bands in this nation. Their *4-Way Cross* is amazing to watch and is done by no other. It was fun watching with you Marvin. *"No collisions!!"* ☺🎷

Agricultural and Mechanical University of Texas. 1879
They have computer programs for band directors these days. Most band kids started marching programs in high school. Marching rehearsals instead of a physical education credit.

I was in the marching band in high school where we had over 200 members and I’ve gotta say that those about face turns on a dime are tough! Especially on an artificial turf. I played the piccolo so it was a very small instrument but I almost got whacked in the face more than once by a trombone or tuba or something!

    • @LadyLiet

LOL! I played trumpet, baritone and French horn. One year I got run over by a bass drum!

@ no, the don’t. There are many 1A and 6-man high schools that either don’t have a band at all, or the band doesn’t march at half-time.

It looks better because they march as a military is supposed to. All the left feet hitting at the same time.
A LOT of marching bands can't get that fundamental thing right.
