    Absolutely premium vid Luc , man you asked all the right questions, interesting Luc how you notice the fine details. Good to see Luc hanging out with you guys in the shop. He seems pretty interested and impressed by some of the things you do Paul. I think most people are impressed by your talents, I know I am. I learn a lot just by watching. You make things seem so simple even though they are not. I have tackled projects that I thought were beyond my skills because I might have seen you do something similar. So far I am happy with the results I have gotten. If you don't try you will never accomplish anything. Thank you Kathy and Paul for all the great videos. Keep them coming and I will definitely keep watching. Take care.

    Another entertaining and instructional video ... Harley's [Hardly Driveable] and Honda's .... you can put them together for a while .... but they will always separate! ... Honda Lover since 1967 ... the fellow who poured the floor in the barn the other day asked me "Do you ALWAYS buy Honda? ... my responce "absolutely ... if possible!"
    ... HS55 snowblower lasted 23 years! the motor is in a box the rest is completing the rust function! ... Loud horns work too ! "Bad Boy" air horn attached to the VT750 ... it gets other vehicles attention at 141db! ! My Horror Fright tire changer did the job on the Kubota front tires but it was a ball buster! ... but your changer is definitely nicer! the Carlisle replacement tires are very had rubber ... happy the Kubota is up and running! As always I walk away from your videos learning something new!... You ...Kathy and now Luc make a good trio ... keep em' coming!

    That's to easy Paul. Bike wheels should be harder to take off. :) Honestly, I didn't know it would be that easy on any bike. Great video with the three of you. Makes the work take longer but more fun when you run into a problem. I'd forgotten about the white dot on the tire, so again I learned something today. Thank you Paul and Kathy and tell Luc thanks too. Take care and God Bless! Levi~~

    Now if they could make getting to the air cleaning as easy to get off. That's pretty slick you can get the rear off that easy. It's nice to have the right tools. Love the shop videos Paul.

    Paul; I live an hour away from a dealer and don't have a tire changer. So I went to the Goldwing dealer who does three wheeler conversions and bought a complete rear wheel. The whole rear drive is removed and not used. I can change the wheel on my own and when I have time take wheel to get changed....Hal

    Great video Paul and Kathy. My guess is you are Newfoundlanders but with your guest having the last name Levesque I'm thinking maybe Capers. Nonetheless quite entertaining and informative to watch. Since my local shop wants 800 bucks to install new Elite 4s I'm gonna do it myself or at least pull the tires myself. Wha do you think of Shinco tires for the Wing. They seem to have good reviews and are half the price. Also do you have a video for replacing steering head bearings. Thanks.

  • @greathodgy22

    .
    Paul you are right about those E3's being tough. I have a old manual tire changer and have done 5 or 6 on my 97' SE. I do the same as you, leave the tires in the sun to help with getting them off/on.
    My front tires used to "cup" a lot. I started using Dyna Beads for balancing and I get a lot more km's out of them now.
    I replaced the rear last year and it was a E3 MT and has hardly worn, from what I can see, after 15,000 km.
    .

      @7863348  9 років тому

      I'm getting between 12.000 - 15.000kms out of the tires which is pretty good considering I pull a trailer a good bit too. I'm only changing the tires now because the bike is in for a total refit and look over so it's a good time to do it. Yes the E3's are tough. Man those gl1500 were and still are great bikes.

    good video. Thank you for the tip to check for cracks around the center stand/frame area.
    One little thing. The tire lube you used, someone made the comment to use dishwashing soap. you can use dishwashing soap, but only if it is LYE free. The only dishwashing soap that I know that does not have LYE in it is dawn.. you know, the brand that they showed commercials of them washing the wildlife that got caught in an oil slick from the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska. That was dawn dishwashing liquid.
    all other dishwashing liquid’s, I do not know how much or if any LYE they have in them. But they usually do. The problem with that is, LYE attacks aluminum. It is like putting acid on it. that liquid gets trapped between the tire and the rim, and it does not get rinsed away. And develops slow leaks over time because the aluminum gets corroded away. This was very common with the 90s general motors wheels and Toyota wheels do you have slow leaks, probably because the tire mounting lube used was dishwashing soap with LYE in it. People that washed their cars with this dishwashing soap with LYE in it, you could see the wheels turning black from the acid/corrosive reaction the aluminum wheels had with dishwashing liquid..
    I bought myself a gallon of rubber tire mounting lube at NAPA auto parts. I believe it was around $15 for that gallon..
    I appreciate your video and other videos like this, because I bought my very first gold wing GL 1800. I’ve been riding since the 60s, and I have about 700,000 miles of street riding/mostly commuting. I’ve done all my own maintenance, everything from repairing transmissions , replacing crankshaft, boring cylinders, steering head bearings..I have the same lift table as the one you have in this video, did you cut that section out to allow the rear tire to drop?

  • @garyjohansen8513
    @garyjohansen8513 7 років тому

    Good video. You are certainly safety conscious. Perhaps I take a bit of a shortcut by not removing the left-hand caliber. Once I have the right hand caliber off and when you wiggle the tire a couple of times they’ve always just rolled out and by wiggling the tire a few time while holding a fork loosens a brake pads in the caliper to make reinstallation easier. But I like your style.

  • @haledmondson2756

    Do you think a motorcycle lift that will raise the bike approximately 16 inches would be enough to get the rear tire off without removing the fender section on an ‘06 Goldwing?

    • @7863348
      @7863348  5 років тому

      It would be close but I never tried it at that height. You could lay the bike on its side and remove the rear wheel. It’s easy to do.

      Thank you very much. To answer your question is no one really knows. I haven't heard of any cracks from 2005 onward. That being said I haven't been following it either. I didn't see any difference in frame design since so maybe they have a better Technique Of welding those areas but I will say that when I'm servicing any GL1800 I make sure that those effected areas are Thoroughly checked. I would advise everyone to follow the same habbit. Ride safe!

    • @7863348

      My honest opinion. OK. You have an expensive motorcycle. It carries your life and maybe a a passenger's life on it and people try and save a dollar on installing a tire that was never designed for a motorcycle. Would you board a plane If you knew that the maintenance people were installing replacement parts that were never intended for flight? I think not.
