Lovebites THE HAMMER OF WRATH Reaction | Thrashy Goodness

- Back at it with another look at Lovebites. I really enjoyed what I heard the first time around so I just had to come back for more. This track really shows off all the member's musical prowess. It's a big mix of elements featuring a traditional hardcore breakdown drum groove, dueling guitar solos, and even a solid solo bass break.
Thanks for getting In The Pit! Have a song you think I would like? Leave a comment below and if I haven't heard it, I'll put it on the list.

LOVEBITES - The Hammer Of Wrath lyrics:
What's the worst way to die?
Burning to death, or drowning?
Everyone laughs in derision
There's no hope at all
Why is the world rotting away
Howling in pain, they slowly die
All of the sorrow is murderous
The insanity
(Burn up)
They're calling me
(Burn up)
It's do or die
(Burn up)
Get ready for hell
(Bring down justice to the wicked)
Don't look away from the mistakes
Open your eyes, and see the truth
When lightning cracks the blackened sky
Listen to the screams of distress
It's like a bad dream but it's not
No way to get out, a living nightmare
Bring down the Hammer of Wrath
Who will be the next to burn?
God only knows the victim
Everyone knows they are innocent
All the hope is gone
In despair they pass away
There was no hope to begin with
Even the angels are giving up
Looking down on us
Will this night ever break dawn
(Bring down justice to the wicked)
SOLO: midori / mi-ya [miyako]
What's the worst way to die?

The new bassist, Fami.
They are phenomenal. Elie musicians.The 2 guitarists (Midori & Miyako) are among the best duos I have heard ever. The overall Japanese metal/rock scene is fantastic & IMO the best in the world. Dive deeper it's a great ride. It's a great kickstart to your channe;
My kind of thrash metal. LOVEBITES rocks! 🤘🐺🤘
Love Lovebites 🐺🤘🏴
The Wolfpack rock harder than most heavy metal bands ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks so much for reacting to amazing Lovebites and spreading the word because they deserve more recognition. These women are extremely talented, skillful, versatile and extraordinary musicians. Their live performances are just outstanding. Some people say that they are breaking the walls of stereotypes in the metal scene. Asami was a R&B, soul and jazz singer before she joined the band. Miyako (black hair guitarist) is also a concert level classical pianist, trained since she was 3 years old. My next suggestion is “Set the world on fire” (live)
Another great reaction, thanks. Check out "Epilogue", best ballad in this century. They play on 7 instruments (standard + 2 acoustic guitars + acoustic piano). Rock on.
Best metal band around.
You love 3 solo's in this one? Then you will surely love the 14 solos in the live performance of 'Scream For Me' Four in the main part of the song & ten in 'conversation mode' at the end.

Haruna (drummer) it's only 1,49 cm and play for 2 hours, so she had project the own drum set to look at the ergonomic and not only for the show or her pyrotechnic movements and then this set placement allows for greater speed especially for the feet . Watch please the her solo in this show. Thank you.
Asami studied in the states and can speak english and translate
My day isn't complete without some LOVEBITES in it. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Watch their another piece Scream For Me there they play 14 solos in one song.😎
A playlist of LOVEBITES songs, LIVE with drummer Haruna brought forward in the audio mix,
two songs are 'drum-cam'. 11 songs now, new ones show up occasionally.

Your question about Haruna's china cymbals being so high up (I missed that part, as I commented while watching your reaction). This goes back to her being as short as she is. If those were normal splash cymbals, those would be hard for her to hit if she is playing a typical drum fill. If you notice, her splash, crash, and ride cymbals are all lower and closer to her so she doesn't have to stretch or get out of her seat to hit them. She also uses longer sticks as well, which helps with being able to reach those china cymbals. Finally, you'll notice the stars cymbals around the kit. Those are for show, but those are basically her branding; they spin, and she'll use those sticks to actually spin those cymbals. I believe she does have a video explaining her setup, but it has been a while since I last saw it.

LOVEBITES "Raise Some Hell" DRUMS VIDEO !! [harupi360 setlist] ua-cam.com/video/9Rpb1WCayIs/v-deo.html or Lovebites haruna drum solo ua-cam.com/video/gNW0BwTQs88/v-deo.html or LOVEBITES - Haruna - In the studio
Haruna's cymbal work is legendary and this set up is her standard gear mode. She is like this for an entire set and all the entire band's members'stamina is truly stunning. Japanese musicians start early and by their late teens they either become elite or fade away in the deep talent pool that Japanese Metal/Rock/Jazz is abundant with. MMA fighters wish they hit as hard, and lasted as long as Haruna!!!
Nice one!
Haruna is a great, creative drummer. Yes, she did learn to play energy saving drumming and she was 4'9". Of coz all cymbals thing must easy reachable (imo).

Michigan fan? Awesome. Yeah Lovebites is kind of a Metal throwback band but done Modern with an emphasis on Technical and Melodic Speed Metal and a highly Visual and Energetic Style of delivery. You would be hard pressed finding a more competent group of musicians in the Metal realm. The drummer is professor level and can hang with the best of em and she is 4 foot 6 and she lunges into her set hence the cymbal setup and uses them all frequently every song... WolfPack!
Yup, big Wolverines fan and the Lions are my NFL team.
@@inthepitwithsteve Were practically related....lolz. Wolverine!
Brilliant review. I agree they don't have to be in dark heavy looking costume because they sound the heaviest already. The 4'9" tall drummer is a most energy saving drummer. During two hour shows, she sits in her pocket reluxing and don't move around much but beats shit out of her kit so hard. She uses her Zill-bell a lot, you might like it.
If you search for lovebites-daughters of the dawn gear introduction you will find 2 videos of the ladies explaining the gear they use. Haruna isn't really talking about why the cymbals are in certain places but it's a nice watch if you are equipment geek 😅
Tnks for reacting again to lovebites, they are my fave heavy metal band, midori💚💚💚💚💚
Heavy Metal with white dresses & heels. Juxtaposition at its finest!
🔥🤘
🤟🏻🔥🔥🐺🔥🔥🤘🏻
In scream for me. HAVE 14 solos
each cymbal in Haruna drum-set has it's own sound. if you check the 2 chinas you'll see one is plain and other is perforated. each one has it's own sound and Haruna use them all to build her unique drum line sound.
Why they are dressed in white isn't just because they want to shake up the normal metal thing to do and dress in black, but it serves two purposes:
1. So they can be SEEN. Amazingly as it looks, they all are rather short. Before Fami (bassist) joined the band, the tallest was Miyako (Dean guitarist) at 5ft 2in (159cm). Fami is 160cm (5ft 3in), while Haruna is the shortest at 4ft 8in. So if you're that short, and wearing black, you're going to get swallowed up by the stage and the rigging. Wearing white allows them to be seen and naturally your eyes will focus on something that is bright. So it's a great idea and smart marketing.
2. Not everything in metal as to be dark, gloomy, morbid, or shocking. That's the metal thing to do, and is what is considered normal in Japan (have a look at visual kei; that is what metal is in Japan). LoveBites are being metal against that; showing that you don't have to be so dark and shocking to play as hard and heavy as (and even heavier than) those other bands. They are proving that they can go just as hard, but love going out shopping carrying their Louis Vuitton or Gucci purse. No other band to this day can lay claim to that, let alone get away with it.
Great analysis, Steve, you know your sh!t ;-) I'll be looking forward to more reactions.
Yeah, Can't tell Asami is a seasoned r'n'b singer, right? Never listened to or knew of heavy metal prior to joining LOVEBITES in '16.
Haruna is extremely economical in her drumming ways. During their recent hiatus she worked with a trainer to even improve this to reduce the strain imposed by her work behind the drums.
To complete the picture, both guitarists started out on guitar during their late teens, early twenties. Midori (blonde) attending an academy, Miyako (black) self taught. Fami, bass, replaced the founder Miho 2 years ago and is a prodigy on her instrument. You should check out her YT.

I think she has those big crashes up there so they are out of the way.
She has so many cymbals so they have to be somewhere.
She is very small and have not so good reach so those that she use all the time has to be near.
And then the big ones she just uses now and then are up there.
But, of course, she uses everything except the stars.
omg, next expert..ha,ha Lovebites - best metal nowadays ,dude..
great reaction! great song!tks from Toronto !!lovebites!!
Asami is often compared to Bruce Dickinson, so you're not alone in making that comparison. I suspect it is largely due to the vibrato in her voice.
" " Huruna " " is only 4' 9 ... She does'nt have a long ' Reach "....
Fair!
I do enjoy your reactions - you are definitely one of the more informed reactors on UA-cam. Just a suggestion if I may - the sound volume of the video is a little low relative to your mic.
You sure that was Korn that said, "Lets get in the pit and love someone?" I think that was Kid Rock. Just looked up the Lyrics and it's from the song, "Bawitdaba." By Kid Rock in 1999. Maybe Korn said it too?
As to the drummers set up, I know nothing about drums but could it have to do with her being 4'9"? Maybe they are just far away because she is so little. LOL.
I wanna say I am enjoying your channel so far. You do something really well. You let the video play without interrupting it every 5 seconds to say absolutely NOTHING at all. You keep the interruptions to a minimum and when you do say something, it's from an informed viewpoint. I love that. I really hate it when some reactor never lets the song play more than 10 seconds at a time. Only to say, wow, they are really good for the tenth time and other meaningless and repetitive comments.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm pretty sure it was Fred Durst, the lead singer of Korn who said it. I have the quote tattooed across my chest. I very much hope I am not wrong.
@@inthepitwithsteve Fred Durst was the lead singer for Korn, when exactly?
@@inthepitwithsteve Enjoyed your reaction! I'm a big "older" metal fan, and just love the fact that Japan is bringing back 80's and 90's type sounds and arrangements that I listened to in my 20s and 30s. Also, I think you're conflating two bands. The funny thing is I saw both at Aftershock last year. Jonathan Davis is the lead singer for Korn - always has been. Fred Durst is the lead singer for Limp Bizkit - always has been. Both were amazing last year.
I suspect Haruna's placement of the Chinas may be simply for visibility. She is tiny, like REALLY tiny! She's 4'9." If she brings the Chinas in close, she would be almost completely invisible behind everything. It allows the crowd to see her, and it allows her to see her bandmates for those moments when she may need visual cues from them. That's just my thought, anyway.
Welcome to reacting! Lovebites are a very fun band with dozens of great songs.
Two bands that I suggest you listen to with great drummers: Wintersun and Epica. Wintersun features the incredible drummer, Kai Hahto. The best first song would be Sons of Winter and Stars.
Epica is one of the premier symphonic metal bands. For them, I suggest Consign to Oblivion live at the Zenith.
Personally, it has never bothered me about the lack of set up of a drum kit! I am sure it will come out eventually! You shouldn't get your knickers in a twist over it!
When did Korn say “get in the pit and love someone”? I remember Kid Rock saying that in “Bawitdaba” but not Korn. Of course, it’s been years since I’ve listened to Korn. I drifted away from them when I saw them in either 1999 or 2000 and the opener, Rob Zombie, was 100 times better.
The deeper you dive into the Lovebites catalog, you will come to realize that Haruna never really plays the drums in a straight line. Her fill work is amazing, and I honestly have never heard better cymbal/bell/china work. Despite her layout, she is quite efficient as she can play at this speed for 1.5 to 2 hours with relative ease.
As a drummer, I feel you must listen to Tomas Haake's drum playthrough of the song "Clockworks" by Meshuggah of you haven't already watched it.
ua-cam.com/video/axGn6qeJHcM/v-deo.htmlsi=RYHGxRCLZLBADsq6
Your concern on her drum set-up is puzzling to me. Every drummer sets things up differently. Some have the snare directly in front, some have cymbals up high. Watch the drummer for Mixed Up Everything and the drummer for Jinjer. I'm honestly perplexed why you find the drum set-up relevant, especially as a drummer yourself.
Because I'm fascinated about the how and why of a drummer's set up. It's interesting to me to try and see what the pros and cons of a setup are, both through my eyes as a player but also trying to see it through someone else's as to why they settled on something especially if it's a little odd or different than the norm.
Now do this little favor.. Take the band out of this song. Take all 5 ladies out.. Now, put in the classic lineup of ANTHRAX. Think it would sound the same? It should, as that is where the main influence comes from. This song sounds like it could have come off of their 1986 album Among the Living, so you know they have a good thing going when they sound like (and IMHO) better than one of the Big Four.. and doing it in heels.
Lately I've been revisiting, and sometimes listening for the first time to some of the albums from the classic metal bands of the 80s and 90s. There are some amazing songs on some of those albums, but there are also plenty of filler tracks. Also, in general, LOVEBITES songs are more complex and interesting. My conclusion is that musically, LOVEBITES are just better than any of the big four, or other legendary metal bands from the golden age of metal.
