- In this video we go back in time to 1984 to review the epic rock drama, Purple Rain, to see if it stands the test of time. This film stars Prince, Apollonia Kotero, Morris Day, Olga Karlatos, Clarence Williams III and Jerome Benton.

In the original script, The "Kid"s father (Francis L) was supposed to die during the "I Would Die 4 U" song sequence. The idea was changed, because WB thought that might have been too much of a dark ending (for the film). Good review.

I saw this the night of its release . I was in 10th grade! It will ALWAyS be Epic and amazing for all the reason you awesomely mention and so many more. This is basically Princes Story. The Soundtrack was Ginormous at the time !! It all exploded at once ! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Hahaha love u guys . 🎉⭐️🎉

The point you're missing with the names is they're basically playing themselves as artists with the exception of Apollonia because she was new to the camp. There was a name for the father which is Francis L. Why he's not referred to as such, I don't know. They never gave his mom a name

I saw the Time in concert in 2014 and tore B.B. Kings all the way up. When Prince took them on both the Controversy and 1999 Tours, The Time would upstage him almost every night.

The Apolonia "Six" refers to their boobs. I am pretty sure it was based on the Vanity Six.

Such classics!!
It's considered one of the best openings of any Rock movie. It sets up all the characters with in the first 4 mins of the movie. This movie isn't pretending to be Shakespeare, it's a rock drama. Just like Star Wars isn't Shakespeare either. Prince wore heals and still won in basketball. Minnesota produced Prince, Bob Dylan, The Time, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Alexander O' Neal. Why would anyone go to Minnesota? Those people made a career there. And the main point was the Club was THE spot to go to (for the movie). And after the movie It became THE spot to perform at.
Are you the Governor? Strong love for MN but FYI, Bob Dylan didn't get discovered until he moved to NYC and started playing in the village. Talent was def born in MN but it's rarely discovered there, which was our point. Also, they're just jokes. We literally have no opinion on the state of MN...except Kirk Cousins sucks. @@KisstheReviews I know your "joking" but if you really want to trash a movie. You should see the dreadful sequel to Purple Rain; Graffiti Bridge. It's probably the worst movie ever made. It's so bad that its hard to watch all the way through. The sequel makes Purple Rain look like Shakespeare.
We don't trash movies. It's a roast. A celebration of the ridiculous 80s and 90s from a 21st century pov. Sorry you think we set out to trash anything. Not our goal at all.
Vanity was supposed to be in this but she fell out with prince which is why Appolonia was in this.

Talk about cherry picking story lines and missing the point and the boat. The other band was playing Modenaire in the back ground in a club scene. Prince's band "The Revolution" are a popular local band with their one hit let's Go crazy. But it's an older song, not drawing the people in and that's why the Revolution are the opening act for the hip band The Time. Apollonia 6 (six sounds like sex) is to be a sexy girl group-think Nicki Minaj (If she was a girl group)for the 80's ;and sex appeal would bring guys to the club. You miss the main point is that the Kid and his father are both control freaks and that is a big part of their problems. As for the Time hits they have "Cool," "Jerkout," "Gigolos get lonely to," "777-9311,"The Walk."The first time Prince preformed Purple Rain and Let's Go Crazy long before it's release to an audience that didn't respond much. And these are major hits. Prince was a star at the time and well known, proof that being a star isn't everything and familiarity is more important to an audience. Morris Day (for the most part ) is a good actor as "Morris" the pimp performer persona. Acting from anyone else (minus the father-great actor) not that great.
Shot in the dark...but is this Jerome? You have a scary amount of knowledge on this movie...the need to mansplain it though is entertaining AF. 😂

You guys are hilarious,this movie was supposed to be Semi autobiographical,so this is the famous club in Minnesota where a lot of groups performed and got their start,so in this movie Prince wasn't famous yet
