Jessica, can I request a video? I think it’ll be fun and interesting to see you and your wife switch clothing styles. Where she wears your clothes for a week or something and you wear hers. Same with hair maybe where you both do each other’s hair routine.

Jessica, darling, you are in Malaysia! The land of some of the finest textiles in the world! Take a walk into the city and find a tailor to take your dresses in and remove the elastics. In fact, I would like to request a dress making video if you get up the courage to have a dress made for you in Malaysia. That sounds like a wonderful adventure... or disaster... not sure. It’s up to you all. 🤷🏽‍♀️😂

In Kenya for have that too and I always think tourists would have a fun, different and even slightly authentic look if they did this. The things in hotels and tourism kiosks are so overpriced and tend to look costume-y

You could take the dresses that were too large to a tailor! Usually if it’s only a size or two it should be fairly easy to take in a little and you could thoroughly enjoy your beautiful new dresses!

Lotta Niemi espeshly the one that to big with a side zip it would be so easy to take that in and turn it into a center back zip at the sametime

Get thee to a seamstress! Most of those dresses only need part of the side seams taking in, really quick and cheap. You should be able to find someone to do it while you're still in malaysia as well, for much cheaper than buying new sizes.

Clothes should be easy to have altered there and hopefully cheaply! See if your in-laws know of an alterations lady. A good seamstress will be able to use the extra fabric of the blue polka dot dress and give you more room in the shoulders. The extra fabric from the others you might be able to make headbands out of. What's important is the room for your bust. The rest can be taken in. You'll like the warmer fabrics when it's chilly in Britain! We had a lovely horizontal freezing rain yesterday. :( love your vids!

My online shopping experience is mostly from ModCloth, but my strategy is to look at the sizing chart, then look at the reviews to see if other people think the size chart is accurate, see if someone with a similar body type to me has left a review (I’m short with a smaller bust and huge freaking hips so it’s sometimes hard to tell how stuff will look on me), then ask my mom what she thinks (she’s better at guessing whether things will fit or not), and then order. Not sure if dresslily has reviews but they have been the best way for me to decide on other sites

I bought two Dresslily dresses, and I kind of semi-regret it... Actually one is exactly the same as your checkered blue-and-white one, I loved it in the review. Both dresses look like the picture and look pretty, generally. I heeded your advice and bought my size (S) regardless of the size charts, and it worked out fine. The blue dress is still a size too big for me (I have 87 cm chest, which is, indeed, more XS than S), but it's good with a belt and good enough without. However! The regret comes from the fact that they totally lied about the fabric. Both dresses say 95% cotton, 5% elastane, and this was super important for me, as I live in Israel, which is a very hot country. But by their feel and behavior, I can say for sure as a textile crafter (and as a person with experience living in a hot climate) that they're 100% polyester. I wish they didn't lie about the fabric. Of course, your review was actually honest about this website (you also mentioned that it had lots of synthetic fabrics). I think it's totally my fault for biting the bait of super-cheapness (I paid $40 for 2 dresses, which is less than one dress from a proper brand). I'm going to wear them, because they're cute, but I won't buy no-name retro dresses anymore. I'd rather stick to small European brands (I'm a fan of British Retro!). And my consciousness will be cleaner for it.

I'm afraid I will never use Dresslily again. I placed an order, was assured everything was in stock. Waited two weeks and my order wasn't even processed. Was then vaguely told that due to some kind of spring festival (this was January...) there was a delay in restocking. Restocking, huh? Restocking those items you assured me were in stock in the first place?
After then waiting a further TWO MONTHS, I was informed that they couldn't restock the two items and couldn't complete my order. Genuinely the worst service I've ever had through any online clothing business. The only good thing I can say is that I got a refund.

I like the red dress the best. I agree with Claudia about the ones looking like lunch ladies. Or like my granny when she’d go to pick things in the fields. I think the layered one looks like a bad doll. The red and white one would be good for Christmas with a white furry wrap and pearls though

I would recommend you have darts put in to the first dress! I personally would put two in the front from the (and excuse me for any awkwardness) bottom of each of the nipples to the top of the waistline. They're quite easy to do so you could probably do them at home with just a needle and thread. You can also do this on the cream and blue dress. For this one I would suggest you put in the darts one on each side, from the armpit to the waistline. I will say, they all look very lovely on you! Dress number six would need two front darts and two side darts to get the fit I reckon. And for the penultimate dress again two side darts and two front darts to make it fit nicer.

this was so funny to watch - why would a brand do that with their sizes? Very odd indeed. My Mum recently has been loving dresses from the brand Number 9 Fashion. It is based here in Australia, so I’m not too sure about shipping to the UK, but the dresses themselves are ridiculously cheap compared to a lot of Australian vintage/retro brands. Have a look - all their dress are super quirky with fun patterns, but are sorted into necklines so they still say ‘vintage’. Just an FYI, when they first release the dress, they’re about $105 AUD, but then can go down to $60 ish after a bit, depending on how popular the patterns are. I have my eye on a couple of their collared ones 😊. Let me know what you think :)

    • @mysticloverfairy1
      @mysticloverfairy1 5 років тому +1

Hannah I have bought several dresses from this site, the sizes do tend to run small,(they are coming from China)so I have found ordering the dresses two sizes above my regular size works and if it’s too big you can always get it tailored,I had one dress that was shown calf length in the pictures but was floor length with a silk puddle around my feet,so I got it tailored .

You could take some of them to get them tailored if you can find a place that's not too pricey? Or try it yourself (DIY video!)? Easier to tailor something that's too big for you, rather than something that's too small for you. 😊
(Actually, you probably can already take things in yourself... but can Claudia? That'd be a funny video).

Hiii Jessica. I am currently trying to choose a mobility car on the Motability Scheme. Do you have any advice on picking a suitable car or any car based disability aids?

I'm thinking about shopping on dresslilly but I'm super cautious about ordering online when it comes to getting scammed and my personal information. Do you trust the site security wise? I'd love your opinion.

But what bra can you wear with the red halter dress? I guess I could buy nipple covers but I'd rather not if I don't need to.

What I do with halter dresses is take the removable pads out of swimsuits that I already own, then just insert them into the cup area of the dress. If the waist of the dress fits well the halter aspect of the dress lifts and the small pad helps to not feel so exposed. If the pads move around too much in the dress I use double sided tape just to give it extra stick to me (careful, make sure you aren't allergic to the adhesive if you stick it to you, I learned the hard way) or the dress. I have also used strapless bras, multi function bras, and circle cut tape fairly successfully, but I recommend the first method, especially since many halters have lower backs. Halter bras can be expensive and only some fit invisibly under the straps even still, so I've never owned any. If you are unsure wear the dress with a cardigan and nearly any bra while bra shopping.

What are your measurements? I'm trying to figure out what sizes to get at Dresslily, but I couldn't find any of their size charts that had measurements other than length. I'm very petite.

I screwed up even looking at the sizing chart, because at the moment I don't have anything to take my measurements with.
