The issue with Marcus. He's boring. From his content, personality to even his voice. He's just boring and without the other UK UA-camrs holding him up, it's just apparent. Problem with Alfie. Well I compare him with a child in a toy store. Alfie is a person who made something out of UA-cam but lacks the focus and mental maturity to deal with the responsibilities that arise from it. He just wants to play, that's all he cares about and it's evident with all his "projects and hobbies". One minute he has an office that he spends multiple vlogs in, explaining his long-term plans, the next it's dropped completely and now he has a piano or has a gym in his garage.

Alfie’s one pound challenge video starting off with a time lapse of him having a working out session with his personal trainer was the single most hilariously out of place thing i’ve ever seen, not gonna lie
my issue with Zoella is her content is soooooooooooooo unbelievably boring and depthless. she literally has nothing important to say. all she does is show off hauls of clothes and do mediocre makeup videos. boorrring.
Which is harder than you think. Believe me, if she could best JK Rowling with her book, scam her fans she isn’t that stupid. Compare this to Logan Paul, Pewdiepie or even Superwoman who make semi-political statements that pissed off their fans and make youtube raised an eyebrow. Zoella is smart, very smart even tho she pretend to be dumb.

Dan and Phil are literally the only British youtubers I watch. They're humble, unproblematic, good role models and never flaunt how much they make . Dan even told subscribers not to buy merch, to get it only if they had extra money and explained how his family couldn't afford stuff like that growing up. And then you have Zoella selling a 2 pound advent calendar for 50...smh
I agree, I love dan and Phil. They are super humble and their content is relatable. They put effort in and go on tour, write books and make audiobooks so that the fans have more of a connection. Louise is another British UA-camr I love.
The only british yter i like is Jackmate. Ive never liked the whole brits+tyler oakley youtuber group. None of them really have a talent other than zoella. Dont like ksi+sidemen either. Used to like Caspar but not anymore.

The old UK youtube crew reminds me of Disney channel. When I was young I loved it and was well involved with the fandom. Now that I'm older I rarely get through 1 video. I'm not sure if the content has genuinely gotten worse or if I have just grown up. It is sad in a nostalgic way to see the demise of all these channels, it's almost like the demise of my childhood and teen days.

I don't think his £1 was meant for charity or for awareness of poverty. I believe his lack of empathy and humility in the video shows that he thought living on £1 was a similar to a cinnamon challenge. Even after the backlash for a bit he still didn't clock what was wrong. I think he lives in a very priveledged UA-cam bubble but I'm glad he's open to learn and I'm glad the community aren't afraid to call out foolishness 😂

I like Naomi Smart and Intefrow. They are both such lovely girls. And Marzia (she lives in UK so I guess she counts!). I feel like most of the other ones are irritating with their vlogs, flexing and bad humour. I do also like Dan and Phil, they seem quite normal and honestly that's what I like, anyone creative and different than the majority.
youtuber's always talk about how hard it is to get to the top but they never talk about how hard it is to stay there. A lot of them probably stick to what got them popular but then that gets boring, they don't show themselves growing as a person and their channel suffers. I noticed most of the "OG" youtubers are so worried about showing how much money youtube actually made them like not wanting to show their new houses or anything materialistic. Some of them don't even look like they enjoy making videos anymore, they look tired and most of them are doing Q and A's because they "needed" to make a video not because they wanted to make a video and a viewer can sense that.

I haven't watched those popular UK UA-camrs since like 2012 or 2013. I guess since growing up going to college I fell out of them but I didn't even realize it lol. The only British UA-camrs I still kinda watch now are Dan and Phil.

Marcus has become a little bit more relevant through his girlfriend. Steffi is reslly popular in germany/ in the german speaking countries. That’s also a reason why his videos with her get a lot more views because she’s in them.

i mean if you look at their most-viewed videos, it's always really cute/funny challenges that work, or whenever they bring in a friend for a collab (we love animé crossovers lol). the more vlogs you put out, the less interesting your content seems/*is*... like, how much can you do in a day? /every/ day?
vlogs don't bring views. which is why so many youtubers clickbait with a "challenge" or "reaction" to get people to watch a 20minutes-long vlog (more time for ads) with only two minutes of them actually doing the challenge or reacting to whatever they were supposed to be reacting to.
I always use community channel as an example of great UA-camr . She had a life so she always something to get ideas for sketches from and to talk about. Not only that but she get film and book recommendations from viewers and then actually watch/read them . It wasn't so self-centred . She'd have the comment section at the end too and have jokes with her viewers. It's nice when UA-camrs care about their viewers. Shame she doesn't post anymore but those were the good days. I bet any youtuber who has her as an inspiration is probably a great UA-camr eg dan Howell

Most youtubers do have other jobs Marcus owns a real-estate company, owns strip bear, does a podcast , as well as writing main stream television scripts and is involved in the modeling world, and owns the company with 2 others called source box.Alfie Dey’s once again does real-estate is essentially the CEO of his own company. Jim Chapman does presenting, works in the fashion world and probable owns businesses that we don’t know about. Louise she owns 3 houses do I don’t know if that considered real-estate as she’s not actively selling and buying properties but she’s a writer. Caspar lee , actor owns a management company does real-estate ect. Ect.
I think Alfie comes across ignorant and really unrelatable. I one Vlog he said something like: "We have people come over to clean our cars out." And it's the way he says things like that, like it is normal to have people come over to clean your cars (it definitely isn't where I am from).

Honestly not going to lie the old school British UA-camrs used to use one direction & everything American teen/young adults loved about the British culture as a way to draw in their audience. Now everyone isn’t into that anymore & more into makeup accounts, kpop & things that are waaaay more funny & creativity.

The things Alfie wastes his money on is obscene!...I really don't think he sees how privileged ( hope i spelt that right..lol..) and I dont think he cares because he "woks hard" to get things like giant pogo sticks (he,he) He says he works hard (yeah right!!) eating out, driving round in one of his many cars ( who really needs that many cars for god sake!!)...Living in a 'HUGE" house with another house in the garden....Thinking he's had a hard day coz...1, he's been working out in his PERSONAL gym with his PERSONAL trainer...2, getting in his car to go into Brighton to buy yet another camera ,Ipad, iphone ( or anymore toys I think of at the moment...lol....3,...Opening up his parcels to see what designer brand things he has been sent today ( free things I may add!)...4... Oh, while hes in Brighton he buys lunch at a little cafe he recommends ( somewhere that we could bareley afford a glass of tap water in) 5 ...then is on to his office for some important meetings ( but its a secret and he cant tell us about it!)... 6.. now the afternoon is finished and he buys a Nandos on the way home for him and Zoe for tea...By this time hes exhausted coz he had such a busy day ...Oh and I forgot he met up with another ( even worse hanger on) idiot Sean Elliot to go shooting guns in his private "woodland"...Just time to eat his tea coz the hairdresser is coming round to cut his hair ...By this time he is totally exhausted and toddles off to a bed (whos mattress and possinly the bed too) he was sent free from some company or other to have a good nights sleep before another exhausting day doing the same sort of things again tomorrow...Oh yes Alfie you have worked as hard a nurse/doctor on their feet all day on a 12 hour shift then having to walk or get a bus home...Yes Alfie u work VERY hard... Try living in the real world!...Oh, by the way I spent £10 in Primark the other day and couldnt eat for the rest of the week!

You know who I really miss on youtube? Jacksgap. Their yt was fun and evolved into these travelling, actually educational videos. Now the only British youtubers I watch are Dan & Phil (as a lot of people in the comments). But yeah, Jack and Finn were genuine guys, very creative and I'm happy that they're now successful outside of youtube and doing what they love but i wish they uploaded a video at least once a year :) x

oh I loved Jacksgap!! I was acc upset that they weren't making as much views on their later videos just because it wasn't like the traditional youtube videos. They're very creative and it was nice to see how their content matured with them and got a lot better and more meaningful as they started to develop their own style.
Both of them are really inspiring and I still keep up with them.

Ooh. So this has been something that I've been thinking about for a long time-- probably since I stopped watching the "Brits' Crew" in 2014-2015. I've got to say that the main problem with Marcus is that he's become really boring. His peak was during the early 2010s. I remember there was a point that he was even more popular than Alfie and Zoe! I think his sense of humour was catered towards viewers who were obsessed with the British invasion and that eventually died down with the rise of kpop and comedy videos ala Emma Chamberlain and a whole new genre like Elle Mills and David Dobrik. Plus, everyone cared about him because Niomi was in the picture. His fanbase was also built on the whole "shipping" aspect and otps so when they broke up, that part of his fanbase did too. Plus, his main viewers, in general, have grown up. We care about different things now. I just don't think he knows how to insert himself into the trends of people who are 10-11 years younger than him and that's where he struggles. He can't find another genre to turn to.
And as for Alfie? Oh, he's a twat. He's always been privileged (his father is the Director of Information Management & Technology at LSE) and with the whole UA-cam thing, has become more and more ignorant. I also think it has to do something with his immaturity. He came into UA-cam really young and hasn't really explored much beyond it. He doesn't know what real life is-- it's not driving fancy BMWs and complaining about ice. It's about working, taxes, adulting etc. How many 21 years old take Ubers to work every morning? This simply proves that he is quite obtuse.
I agree completely with both. Marcus is struggling to find a fan base he can hang on to. And Alfie is out of touch. Both are not relatable and therefore uninteresting to watch
Melissa remember the side that ‘we’ see of him is the side that he chooses to put out onto UA-cam. UA-cam is like any other social media platform we can’t look at Instagram and judge that person so shouldn’t it be the same for UA-cam. UA-cam doesnt show 3 dimensional characters with depth we are witnessing someone across a screen, it’s harder to feel emotional, the aren’t actors who are told how to act how to convey emotions. Also this side of Alfie might literally be 5% of his personality it could be 70% we don’t know, so it’s unfair to judge someone. When he was 16/17 he had an immature or childlike side to him ect he could have started to grow up like we all do and mature but yet he still chooses to portray that side on UA-cam. We don’t know him personally. Also he owns businesses multiple at that.

You're totally right about him not realising how privileged he is. I don't he or Zoella do to be honest, and I don't think either of them give a shit about their fans. That £1 video made me so angry when he said it would be difficult because where he lives 'everything is expensive'. Yeah we get it mate, you're rich, most people aren't. How hard it must have been for you to pretend to be underprivileged for one day.
Like if he was gonna make the video so bad, there was no point of making it. He could have done something else.
I used to be obsessed with the OG British youtubers when I was like 12. Now the only British youtubers I actually watch are DazGames, Jaackmaate, Dan & Phil and sometimes Joe Sugg.

it's not necessarily the british youtube scene. it's selected youtubers. people like willNE, the sidemen, nightscape, caspar, calfreezy etc are doing bits in the youtube scene now. people don't care about chubby bunny challenge youtubers anymore cause they know they're giving out a false reality

Dan and Phil, and Emma Blackery are really the only british youtubers i consistently watch now. I used to watch alot of Zoella and Louise but after awhile zoes vids of her showing how much new clothes she able to buy and all of her makeup and kinda boring collabs got annoying. I get that louise,her life, and her vids changed when she became a mom but recently it seems that shes almost just making vlogs and motherhood vids which just isnt super interesting to alot of people on youtube.

Used to love Marcus, Alfie, Louise and Jim chapman etc. They’re all so boring now, I was never subbed to Alfie. I only saw his collabs, the only British youtubers I stand by now are KSI and the sidemen willNE, Stephen tries, TGFbro, Joe Sugg, Caspar Lee, Pewdiepie and Dan and Phil. They all have stayed the SAME person but slightly changed their content. Don’t get me started on Zoella, she’s always been boring and will be forever, same videos every month, has never changed her content and always seems to be above everybody else

This is totally accurate. I remember the slightly older UK UA-camrs, CharlieIsSoCoolLike and Nerimon and watching them fall from grace so quickly made me realise it’s a hell of a lot easier to lose a huge following than gain one. Alfie’s revenue will dry up just like Marcus and his channel did, I just hope he invests the money sensibly while he’s popular because you can’t be young, fresh and relatable in your late thirties. Glad that the UK is producing great UA-camrs now like WillNE, Stephen Tries, Memeulous, True Geordie, etc. I think it’s a matter of time before we’re completely rid of the middle class vloggers but they’re definitely on their way out.

Yep, they have had no scandals or big dramas. They post regularly on the gaming channel and seem to put real effort into their videos. Dan speaks about stuff like mental health and life experiences while being funny. And Phil makes a conscious effort to be family friendly and make fun lively content. They make lot's of content for fans (2 books, an audiobook, two world tours etc.) and their friendship is genuine, while alfie and zoe seem a bit fake sometimes. Other youtubers such as Felix and Louise have said how humble D&P are.And I just think they are genuinely good people.

I was watching all the British youtubers back when they were blowing up on the internet. This is my own opinion but I think the majority of views for Zoella, Alfie, Marcus, Caspar, Joe were from teens like me in high school and their fans just grew out of the whole "British people are so cute and adorable omg" phase. I still watch Zoe but her videos are draining to watch. She used to do collabs and fun hauls now its pizza taste tests

I used to watch british youtubers back when I was a teen but once I hit 17-18 I got fed up with them and grew out of them. It just bothered me how materialistic and obnoxious they had gotten and how they CLEARLY ignored the big influence they had on younger, easily impressed kids who probably wanted to imitate them and couldn't. They still annoy me to this day and I'm not surprised they're going down.

I miss the old UA-cam! All the challenge videos, when youtuber’s actually didn’t care about views and money - they just had fun and enjoyed themselves. Now it’s all about trying to stay relevant with clickbait titles & trends which they themselves wouldn’t do if they weren’t popular. The only youtuber who I still love watching is Joe sugg, he is probably one of the more down to earth youtuber’s out of them all
I like Naomi Smart and Intefrow. They are both such lovely girls. And Marzia (she lives in UK so I guess she counts!). I feel like most of the other ones are irritating with their vlogs, flexing and bad humour. I do also like Dan and Phil, they seem quite normal and honestly that's what I like, anyone creative and different than the majority.
Taz’s video on the one pound challenge was so good, it included alternatives to buying food from the store, when to buy from the supermarket, etc. it was very educational, well thought out, and funny. I feel like Alvie just heard that there was a challenge and took at face value not doing any research or understanding what it was actually about. He acted like it was impossible to eat with only one pound and it’s simply not true

I think it got to the point where people like Zoella were just doing it for money, and her content really changed. The advent calendar, and tbh all of her products, are just way over priced, and her target audience are young kids who will beg their parents to spend their money on it. It just got repetitive and boring, so I unsubscribed. I don’t think she’s a horrible person, but she needs to rethink and remember what got her to where she is now (her fans). Like stay humble, you know?

To be honest I don't watch any of the British youtubers anymore. Zoella comes across as spoiled, annoyingly sweet and actually kind of boring now; there are only so many hauls and beauty tutorials I can sit through, plus her merch is overpriced and low quality. Alfie has always been irritating while simultaneously having 0 personality and challenge videos and vlogs really are the laziest form of content. Marcus has never been funny his intro is annoying and his content hasn't changed since 2012. Joe Sugg is ok but every video is a collab with someone annoying (oli white, caspar lee, josh pieters) Tanya burr and jim have pretty much just disappeared so its safe to say that era of British youtube is pretty dead. I'll stick to Shane Dawson.

If you want decent British youtubers watch the likes of ; Jaackmate, willNE, The True Geordie, and that whole group. They're genuine, funny and not spoiled by the upper class youtube bubble of privilege.
I used to watch all of the British UA-camrs but stopped when the group stopped collating together and only watch Zoe, Alfie and sometimes Joe. No one else out of the group. I srsly miss 2014 UA-cam..... Things were simple, not as much drama, everyone was pretty much happy, it wasn’t as hard, pretty much everything was real.

The reason I stopped watching alfie and Zoe is because once they bought their newest house, I realized how materialistic (for lack of a better word) they were. Their house was perfectly fine but they bought a new house that cold hold more of he stuff they just keep buying. The only youtuber from their group whose content I still watch is Caspar because he seems like a genuinely good and generous guy and I like his content. I think joe also still has the right mindset, I’m just not into his content as much (:

Damn i feel old..i took a break from really enjoying youtube from freshman year to junior year and used to watch all the classic “old school” youtubers, but i think the only ones i can really enjoy now are Dan and Phil. I started watching them from 7th grade until now in my senior year. They’re so down to earth and i’m glad Dan talks about mental health.
Old school British UA-camrs to me would be more like charlieissocoollike and all and that sorta content was at its peak during 2012 and it's beyond disappointing as I know it's beating a dead horse but the content was really wholesome and felt closer to the audience (remember when people could do video responses?) But nowadays that sorta content doesn't work which is a shame as it seems that most major UA-camrs now would rather just create controversy than actual content
I personally think that smaller British youtubers are so much better, I used to love Zoella but now.. I think the popularity has gotten to her personality wise

I've been thinking lately, that UA-camrs that had started their channels in the 2008-2010's, had their spike to online fame, are now having the issue where their viewers have outgrown their content, and don't appeal to the younger demographic anymore. I would be scared if I was them: they're so used to having the security of earning an income from UA-cam, they have nothing else lined up besides selling their own merchandise.
The video with Markus‘ girlfriend probably also got a lot more views bc she has a large online following from winning Germany’s next Topmodell a couple years back and linked to it.
I don't really watch British UA-camrs apart from Dan and Phil, like everybody else in the comments, it seems. Joe is fine, I just find that most of his videos are collabs with his friends who I aren't interested in. I've gone off the idea of Caspar since the whole Jaackmaate thing where he came across really petty. I do watch Jack. I've never been into Zoe or Alfie. I watch Pewds, Marzia, Graveyardgirl, Shane Dawson, Good Mythical Morning and that's about all now. I try to stick to genuine, humble people. X

Couldn’t of said it any better myself. The British crew were relatable cause they had normal life’s now there is nothing that makes them relatable. They are all very privileged to get to where they are now. I just wish they remembered where they have come from it’s a shame though. They bore me watching them now. I rember back in the day I got a message from Marcus asking me to subscribe to him and I did. Then he got famous and I was like, "Wow, that guy asked me to subscribe to him that one time and now he's famous." (it was a fishing for subs kind of thing and he probably sent out like a million of those) Now the tables have turned and he's right back to being pathetic, fishing for subs and likes. Marcus needs to realise he's not famous anymore and get a real job.
Another British UA-camr would be FunforLouis. I used to watch his travel vlogs all the time, but stopped. I feel like he puts so much effort into making those videos (i.e. drone shots, buying lenses/special cameras, GoPros), but never really getting the amount of views that he deserve.

I just think the phase of ‘big UA-camrs’ has just gone down the toilet because these days anyone can pick up a camera and be a creator, and content-wise there isn’t much out there right now that people are interesting and fresh... I mean I personally don’t watch UA-cam much anymore unless it’s Shane Dawson or vine compilations (yes I live a sad and lonely life).
It’s quite sad when you think about it because UA-cam is some people’s livelihoods/jobs and if it slowly disintegrates then they are screwed.

Me too. I loved Alfie, Zoe, Tanya, Jim, Marcus, Niomi etc. but then I found out about Zoe's book scandal and I instantly unsubscribed. Tanya grew too annoying for me and Jim and Alfie seemed really spoilt. Naomi had broken up with Marcus and they were now irrelevant to me. I now only like Louise because she actually has a functioning life outside of UA-cam and she is grateful for everything.
