    I've just signed up for the Spine Challenger Race and this video is going to be super helpful with my navigation and familiarisation of the route...and David Goggins, the man who said 'when life throws you lemons, don't f**c about making lemonade, just eat the damn lemons'... love the man's focus and determination, he's something else!

      Thanks for watching Ginette, I recognise you from your posts in the Rich Roll Podcast group on Facebook 👍😎 I'm slowly working towards the Spine Challenger Race, I've increased my running fitness and I'm now doing more on this sort of terrain. Hope you have fun in the race, will keep an eye out for you on the tracker 👍 Thanks for watching and I hope the videos help with your research. Dean

      @@DeanRead Good old Rich Roll! I've signed up for the Summer Spine Challenger - the 108 miles as opposed to the full route - I'm running the London to Brighton 100km race just three weeks prior to the Challenger, with a run on Dartmoor with Adharanand Finn and Damian Hall inbetween the two races...so I'm trying to keep my body hanging together...next year I'd like to try the full Spine route. I'm volunteering at CP1 - Hebden Bridge for the 2021 Spine Race, so I'll be helping out there between the 5th, 6th and 7th February (the race had to be postponed from Jan to Feb) Running trails is very different to road running and it's great to practice on the actual terrain you'll be racing on. I used to live in the Peak District, but now we're based in Shropshire where I can run on the Wrekin, Shropshire Hills, Clee Hills and Wenlock Edge...still prefer the Peak District though! I'll carry on watching the videos and getting all the information I can from them - thank you so much for posting such clear and informative videos - I'm subscribed! :-)

    Thanks for this,it's my patch. I've been from Marsden to Crowden and back 4 times this year,on a Circular Walk called "Ten Reservoirs" (official start/finish is at Dovestones,Greenfield). This section resonates so much with me,it's fantastic. Listening to the Cuckoo in Spring down in Crowden,near the top-class camp-site,is quite honestly one of the highlights of my year!

    Wow Black Hill looks so GOOD these days! I remember walking through a bog whenever I was up there less than 10 years ago when I did the Way .. and now look at it! A real credit to the people who go up there and put in the work to re-green our Moorland

    Don't apologise for the lack of music buddy. For me it's its always a great relief to not have to listen to a hideously inappropriate choice of noise obliterating the sounds of nature and the spoken commentary. So often it ruins the possibility of enjoying the often excellent videograhy here on You Tube. Your informative commentary is infinitely preferable to the tasteless noise usually inflicted upon the viewer. So, many thanx for presenting this in a way that allows me to enjoy the land and the skyscape, the ever changing light and sound of the wind and the natural life surrounding your journey through miles of land that has not changed since life returned after it was formed by the last ice age. Well done.

    • @DeanRead

    • @IfUfindthisURlost
      @IfUfindthisURlost 2 роки тому +1

      To be fair, the first two days are the hardest. The Pennine way doesn't break you in easy, but it does get better. Statistically, most people who quit, do so in the first two days. I strongly advise pushing through it, especially as those moors are now so much easier than they used to be, pre-paving slabs. (though some might say that the 'death by bog' initiation, was the true test).

    • @DeanRead
      @DeanRead  2 роки тому

      The first few days along the PW have changed a lot since I first started hiking the Peaks in my early 20s. Thankful for the flag stones and the moors are certainly in a better condition because of them (and the work of Moors For The Future). The Pennine Way has many hits up it's sleeve, it keeps kicking you in stages as you travel north. Looking forward to doing the Montane Spine Challenger Race this June and being thoroughly destroyed by the PW 😂
