    Just dropped one of my 2’ Chicago Hardy figs Into outdoor DWC and wanted to find a successful PPM. ( I had already set all my systems to around 1100ppm this season but I didn’t want to risk losing the newest addition) Everything else is Aeroponics but I’m out of water pumps so I just blast extra air stones! Thanks for sharing!

    Thank you very much for this information. I just took some cuttings off my black genoa and brown turkey fig trees a few minutes ago. I was thinking about doing a kratky system for a bit of fun to see what happens. Havent had much luck with clones unfortunately. Bought some white adriatic cuttings online and managed to kill them all haha.

    • @MrSoggyjocks
      @MrSoggyjocks 9 місяців тому

      My cuttings lived, and went into a flood and drain set up. These plants exploded in growth over spring. A few months later and the hydro fig is bigger than the parent tree, which was only small when i took the cuttings. No sign of fruit yet. The parent plants are a couple of years old and haven't fruited yet either, which worries me. Time will tell

    I am building a Dutch tote hydroponic system in my greenhouse in MA. I have multiple varieties of fig seedlings and cuttings I am going to start growing this year in the system. I also use masterblend and feel the ppm range you use will be very suitable. I am not sure what you target for ph, but I will use 6.0 as I do with my other plants. I love figs and have a desert king fig growing inground for over 2 years as I shelter it in the winter. I am hopeful to have results anywhere near what you have done. Thanks for sharing your videos.

      Woundring if tree required watering once a week could grow hydroponicly or lets say aeroponicly in tower garden they usaly require 15 minutes of watering every 45 woundring how to set it up for Catha edulis when in soil it only needs watering once A week

    Some Varieties will die of root rot in a hydroponic system. Other varieties will grow like mad.
    For hydroponic figs, I find that the advantages over soil based is the fruit is more juicy and the Brix may be a bit lower than soil based as the sugars are more concentrated.. But I prefer very juicy figs.
    I use (washed) coco chips and coco coir in 82C temperatures.

    I am wanting to transfer my chocolate and coffee trees to a dutch-bucket style setup in 5-gallon buckets. I considered hydroton but was not sure if it would support the plant well enough. Other options are pea gravel, or a mixture of pumice, vermiculite, and perlite. The International Cocoa Quarantine Centre uses sand, gravel, and vermiculite that they flush with nutrients 6 times a day. So I am still trying to decide what would work best. Mine would recirculate the nutrients. Thoughts?

      Pea gravel is good because it has weight to support plant from falling over. If you want lightweight inexpensive option use lava rock

    How do these tomatoes and figs taste. Hydroponic tomatoes from the grocery store are bland compared to garden grown!

    • @BobGrows
      @BobGrows  4 роки тому

      I think the problem lies in buying non-heirloom or commercialized variety tomato. Hydroponic or not you would be hard-pressed to find exotic or rare tomatoes in a supermarket. Same goes with figs, pretty hard to find figs anywhere

    How do you handle the water temperatures during the summer in Fla? I thought any water temp over about 85 was not good for hydroponics? Do you cool the water?

    • @BobGrows
      @BobGrows  4 роки тому

      I don’t have any issues nor do I cool the water. Occasionally go out there and put my hand in the water and it feels cool to the touch. I keep my reservoir out of direct line of sight of the sun and I know it helps if you bury it too but I can’t on top of concrete.

      @@siegfriedroy6757 figs to grow in tropical climates all over the world. They are primary food source for many animals including small monkeys. They do not need to have an off-season or a period of hibernation. The ones growing in Northern climates absolutely do have hibernation cycles and you must acclimate them to the weather or you must encapsulate them for the winter in a warm blanket. There are varieties that are set up for Northern climates and it is very easy to plant them and let them grow, then all you do is towards the winter you cut it back a little and let it winter through without a cover. The following season it comes back.
