I grew up in a town with a Wonder Bread factory and each year we would take a school trip there. Among other goodies we were given minature loafs of bread. (1950's) thanks for the walk down memory lane.
In the UK we grow up all our lives hearing American English because of films, music and TV so we just learn all the American vocabulary. However, I never caught on to the fact 'jelly' in US English actually means what we call 'jam'. To us 'jelly' is what you cal 'jello'. I honestly thought peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were peanut butter and 'jello'. So I never wanted to even try it. Still haven't tried it even though I now understand. Is there a particular flavour of jam that goes better with peanut butter?
grape jam is probably the most classic but blueberry and strawberry are both common and better, even an orange marmalade would probably be acceptable. the big detail is that it's almost a dessert sandwhich even though we eat it all the time, that's the flavor profile to expect.
Hot dang! Again what learned. Thanks, Nick. Now that I finally know the history of PBJ sandwiches and therefore I'm able to understand their existance, I am going to give it unbiased try. Pinky promise.
Me as a German: The sweet and salty taste is just awesome! Love it! In Franconia sometimes Schnitzel are served with a blob of Marmelade too. Same principle... But then again i love Pizza or Toast Hawaii too.

Wonderbread: it's a wonder anybody eats this willingly. ;-)
@@mojojim6458 Overracting 2.0 If you never ate german Bread, you wont understand, why germans tvinks its discusting. This has nothing to do with American people 🤦♀️
It's pretty popular in the Netherlands. Not because it made it across the pond but the Dutch eat a lot of sandwiches and peanut butter and jelly were and are pretty standard options and people, especially kids, try different things with two sandwich based meals a day.
I’m 65 and I didn’t have a PP&J until about 10 years ago. Mom didn’t like them, so she didn’t give them to us. So I assumed I didn’t like them. Come to find out I do like them.
Bravo Nalf, we learned so much. I have a PB & honey sandwich for lunch 5 days a week for forty years. lunch box has bread, jar of pb and a plastic honey bear honey jar. I craft one on the go. Thanks for this nonsense
My mom & her parents were born in the United Kingdom and came over when my mom was 8 years old. My mom didn’t not like peanut butter but we did have it in the house as my American born & bred dad did like it. He did make peanut butter sandwiches on occasion for himself but not for anyone else. He only grilled hamburgers and hotdogs which my mom bought (she even prepared the hamburgers by buying chopped beef - no premade hamburger patties)
And here I am sitting, allergic to peanuts, and will never be able to try these wonderful abomination....errrr combination, of bread, frutis and nuts 😅😅
It's tasty but Not a source of nutrition. Not a big surprise that peanut butter and jam is tasty, no wonder the combination of carbs and fat like taste from the oil. As well as the protein, even though plant protein is only half as bioavailable and often inflammatory. The carb and fats combination is according to the latest news a heart health risk. I did not know that it's hydroginated. That's terrible. Basically it's a heart disease on a sandwich. Also It doesn't ship well because the peanuts, and many other American plants are prone to aflatoxin. That is one potential reason that it's not a staple food in Europe.
Nalf, do you really drink that Oat milk crap? It's an income for a Swedish biz but I can not support it. It's toxic sludge. The same amount of carbs as a Coca Cola and the hazardous plant oil similar to fast food fries. Read up on those plant oils and red meat, for example Nina Teicholz lectures and book. One problem is Compared to animal fats they destroy the cardiovascular system, build weak tissue incl joints and lungs. If you want to have a long career you might want to eat animal fats and meat. Also Oats are high in agrochemicals. If you're sensitive to milk products you can try sheep or goat milk or coconut milk, since it's a fruit with very high saturated content, instead. You can also try fermented milk products.
It is an insult to real bread that WonderBread is allowed to use the word bread in their name! This ia just some sort of white sponge. My family loves Peanut butter though but without the fake purple grape jelly 😊
At least no real bread was harmed in making this video...
🤣
😂😂
Well, when I look at the bread you use, I do not wonder at all.
but isn't it wonder bread ? :-)
Kudos to Andrew for going all-in on this, especially for the thumbnail!
I prefer Mettbröttchen with onions 😊
If that thumbnail doesn't stop you in your tracks nothing will. Awesome,Nick! The history lesson was great too.
Ich hatte gehört, es gibt davon sogar fertige Scheiben. Wie Scheibletten. DAS hätte ich echt gerne!
Smooth > Crunchy

I remember when our local grocer used to get the miniature loaves. She’d always give me one.
Good job Andy 👍🏻
thanks Kerry 😀
I understand now where it’s coming from, still not sure if I’m convinced concerning the taste😂😂
war drives civilization ... whether forward or away, you decide ...
I like peanutbutter and Nutella instead of Jelly. Tastes great on a Bretzn too.

Andy used Welch's grape "jelly". That seems to be the standard for this disgusting food item.

Thanks for the Intel. I prefer home made Vollkornbrot with self made crunchy peanutbutter with marmite (weird, I know!)
Think it is pretty funny, americans call this "bread" in 2022🤦♀️🤣 Me as a german, I would call it "sponge" for cleaning the kitchen. (Schwammtuch)
No, a sponge has more texture and probably taste

On separate sandwiches yes, but combined on one sandwich, definitely not!
Plus the Dutch also have satesaus and joppiesaus for their fries, so why not put that on some bread?
@@wwvdh1761 Oh yes, it was already an opinion divider in primary school. Some kids bragged about their invention, others believed it had to be awful.

PB and J sandwich and a glass of milk. Can't beat that.
Crunchy > smooth
Anything other than peanut butter > peanut butter
So funny. Top entertainment
The war and after war food my Granny and my young mother ate was bread with Maggi or bread with a little butter and sugar...
My boyfriend loves bread with Maggi! And I loved bread with a little butter and sugar when I was a child (without war and after war).
I was raised on buttered Graubrot with veggies from the garden. Inexpensive and soo good. And definitely more healthy than PB&J.
Interesting fun fact
You made me want to go make myself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I think I will.
