GBRS GROUP TALKS CARBINE SET UP

  • Here is an in-depth look into the "WHY" we/ GBRS Group sets up our instructor carbines the way we do. Each one is set up custom to the end user because it needs to feel like an extension of their body. We feel a proper carbine setup will allow for more dynamic presentations and overall performance.

I’ve been in the Army 9 years, and I feel much more comfortable using high ready, so I never tell my Soldiers to stick with high ready or low ready: do whatever works for you man. You bring up another good point regarding drills and practicality. I think most of the people here in comment section never went to prone supported/unsupported with the riser, never shot beneath or above a vehicle using the riser. Not just dry firing or moving around your house, but actually training like you’re supposed to. The conclusion? Do what works for YOU and train for REALITY.

@@DaveSmith-cp5kj hey man.. I appreciate the question. I’ll give some things I started on and still work on.
      -Patience
-Chair manipulation and learning how to do it one handed.
-The floor and how to manage/get your bearings if you wind up there. Getting flipped out the chair sucks but it teaches you to adapt.
-One hand manipulation/use of his edc. Being as proficient as possible with hitting target one handed, with non dominant hand, just as much as with dominant hand. It’s a hard ass technique to learn, so I dry practice as much as I can
-situational awareness and knowing your surroundings is for everyone, but tad different for us. Where you may be able to jump a table or go through a window, we can’t. This will tie into chair manipulation.
It’s trial and error on so much of this because no one really knows how to teach it, so there’s no guide per say lol. However, still go to training classes and tell them you wanna do everything possible in the class. Lot of instructors are willing to help because it’s teaching them something as well.
Sorry this was long but I hope he finds a way to make things work in his favor. 🤘🏼

@@the_bearded_hobdy895 How do you wheel one handed? Do you push one wheel then reach around to other wheel and just keep alternating or something like that? We will have to work on his flexibility if that is the case.
I have manufacturing capabilities so we probably are going to just experiment making all kind of gadgets to see where it takes us. Right now I'm working on a lightweight motorized attachment and a little self righting system. Other things I'm looking at is a mechanical setup to move the wheels by pulling a cord. in the opposite direction you want to move. The main issue I have is the reliability of these systems. No point if it is just dead weight that doesn't work when you need it.

    • @the_bearded_hobdy895
      @the_bearded_hobdy895 Рік тому +7

@@DaveSmith-cp5kj 100% agree. You definitely don’t want anything that adds unnecessary weight. I have a SmartDrive for mine that attaches to the back and works through a smart watch that insurance covered. It’s good for distance and inclines but would suck in a defensive situation. It works by tapping your wrist on side of the chair. I set the sensitivity but that could cause more harm than good because you have to tap again to stop it. I’m 210lbs and it can push me with ease, so if you went hands on with someone, the chair could easily pick up on the movements and take off. Trust me, I know hahaha.
I don’t have flexibility either because of injuries neck and shoulder injuries but the one hand thing is mainly for close or short burst, not long distance because you would have to alternate but I practice it.
I carry appendix so that helps with having both hands to move and drawing/reholstering. I may have to move while I have it drawn, so that’s why I practice firing one handed with both arms. I keep it in holster at all costs because it’s hard as hell to manipulate that chair one handed. I had buddies that used to laugh at me struggling with the one hand thing, until they tried it, now they help me work on it, just like you are trying to help your friend.
Best advice I can give is for you to get in his chair and move around, that way you will get a feel for what it’s like and that will help you on design stuff. All of this stuff is typically overlooked because it sucks, but it’s critical.

I put the Crossfire rds on my Aero 16" build & that Vortex dot is uber impressive for what it is . I ran it in a austere condition's course a few months ago and my Aero took a bit of a tumble during a tccc scenario made extra difficult (lesson learned) in a simulated parking garage . My Crossfire & Streamlight Protac on a Cloud defense mount both took the brunt of the fall it seemed from the scratches on both . The Crossfire & Protac both showed 0 signs of malfunction during the final day and live fire course . The rds was knocked a bit off zero but it was the Vortex supplied mount being bent a bit & not the dot itself . Been looking at the Unity and Skalar mounts . The Vortex Crossfire rds is gtg

BCM is known for having durable shit that is trusted by a lot of professionals, and as their company has grown you will see that error rate a bit more clearly as more people will end up with QC failures (it's basic statistics) but for the one's that run, they run like hell.

If you wear any type of helmet or headsets using the riser avoids any type of problems with hits, also it solves problems when shooting in certain poses.
