Halloween (2018) | RGP Review | Happy Halloween Michael

- Today we take a look at the return of the Halloween franchise following a nine year absence. Written and directed by David Gordon Green and co-written by Danny McBride, this Blumhouse produced reboot began a trilogy which is set to conclude this October with "Halloween Ends". The franchise had fallen far from it's heights, so let's see if the almost decade-long wait was worth it.

Wtf. I’ve binged watched this channel over the past week, and just assumed this channel was huge. Absolutely mind blown these videos don’t have thousands of views.
Ah man I really appreciate that. Thanks for watching the video!
Right?? He definitely has a style that feels like a huge channel already and his commentary is great
Same bro
I’m right there with you in that one!
Dude same
I feel so lucky I stumbled upon your channel. So underrated, love your reviews man, gonna watch them all now.
Only 207 views ? This needs to change.
Thank you! I remember how long this thing took to make so I’m glad you liked it. I’m putting the finishing touches on an even longer video for Halloween Ends right now so stay tuned
Excellent review! I’ve seen many video reviews but this one hit all of the marks for me. Every single one of them. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.👍 👍
Thanks so much! Really glad you enjoyed it.
Your videos are so high quality I'm so surprised youre not a big name channel tbh
I knew nothing about this film until I saw it for sale on DVD in 2019 . I love it.
Great review as always 😊💜🐾👋👍
Awesome video I'm 55 years old and been a die-hard fan since I was a kid this is my least favorite in the trilogy Halloween kills is my favorite
"For his little temper tantrum in 1978" I died.
I never liked the family connection with Michael and Laurie. You're stuck with either every film having to have Michael hunting Laurie which would get boring over and over or you have to keep finding other family members for Michael to hunt so we end up with him chasing his adopted cousins son twice removed. It's also less scary if Myers is only really hunting family members. As long as I don't live near anyone called Strode or Myers I'm good. Far scarier if Michael could be anywhere after anyone for no particular reason.
I hate the Sartain twist but unfortunately it was necessary, because Michael would have no reason to go after Laurie now that the siblings angle is gone.
thank you so much for talking about the music in this movie! omg finally someone noticed how good it is
Adding to your part about the humour ruining the screen with Julian, the part that always stick out for me is when the babysitter slips and falls, she does this comical 'owwww' as she falls. It almost sounds like it was dubbed in it's so out of place. Couldnt agree more with Julian saying "oh shit!" too. Such a cliche to have any black person in any horror movie has say "DAMN" or "SHEET" etc whenever something happens. Like in Resurrection when Busta Rhymes says "Trick or treat....." I SWEAR I shouted out "don't say motherfucker......don't say motherfucker!!!".......and of course, he says......."Muthafuckah..". Just killed me. Regarding the end of this movie tho, the ending shot of Michael staring up at them with the backdrop of fire licking him..........Holy shit that was epic.
Look, I'll be honest, Halloween as a franchise doesn't make sense at all unless you have the Lori and Michael sibling story. Carpenter has always said that Michael is a force of nature and pure evil. Well, tornadoes don't target one person. Michael always targets Lori and comes after her time and time again. It's fuckin stupid to have an entire franchise of Michael to go after one person.
Yeah, which is why Michael isn’t after Laurie in this movie. I think having Laurie be convinced that he’s coming after her and then having her paranoia only put the people she loves in his path is an absolutely fantastic narrative decision. I like Michael motiveless, and stripping away that decision I think makes the character better and the narrative more meaningful with the angle they took
@RocklinGraves I strongly disagree. Making him motivatless and just "pure evil" is lazy writing. Michael Meyers as a character is lame and a missed opportunity to create an awesome slasher icon
I strongly disagree
@@RocklinGraves and you're entitled to your wrong opinion lol. Just busting yer balls kid. I truly think they dropped the ball with this franchise and it could've turned out so much better.
@@levithomas2700But he is THE iconic slasher. How could he be any more iconic? 😂😂😂😂
One of those movie going experiences I'll remember for a long time was just buying a ticket for a late night showing on a whim opening night.
It was a crisp October outside and the crowd inside was loving it.
Hell yeah! I’ll never forget the vibe of that release night either
@@RocklinGraves IMMACULATE vibes. Any issues I was having with the movie just kinda went away. 😂
Evan, your reviews are excellent. You gave me a new appreciation for the two Sinister movies. I really love the way you point out weak parts of the first one and strong parts of the second. I saw James Ransome on the second season of The Wire, and he is easily the strongest element of a completely excellent chapter of a great show. His character is heartbreaking. I love the first Gordon Green Halloween. I thought the deaths of the two bloggers was unlike anything I have ever seen in a mere slasher movie. The actress screaming in terror almost brought tears to my eyes. She wanted to live, and yet she knew this was it for her-just exceptional storytelling. I hate slasher films, but this one really seemed to have consequences for its characters, and thus its audience.
What I would really love to see is your review and thoughts about Ari Aster’s work, especially Hereditary and Midsommar. I love both films. If you had problems with one or both, I would disagree, but you are extremely thoughtful, and I would love to hear your opinions. Fucking loved Lake Mungo!!
Funny you say that Dean because I’m actually sitting down to record a video about Hereditary today! Thanks for the kind words
This is really funny great job!
Thank you!
You missed a great joke when it came to talking to the film students who said Halloween would never become a classic
They should’ve followed up with them 20 years later or whatever restaurant that happened to be working at and see what their opinion was then
just can't put his finger on it LOL amazing
I enjoyed this breakdown so much more than the movie
I love the Sartain twist. I just wish they didn’t kill him off and took it further into the trilogy.
If you reverse every kill scenes, it just looks like Micheal healing people
I hate that Laurie built this Fortress and I hate all the stuff she did in this one house it's just not realistic
Great video, but you accidentally left a typo at the very beginning (“Spolier” instead of Spoiler). Too late to fix it now, though! 😆
Lemme tell you sum, Evan….. no one cares about the podcasters at the beginning of the movie! I didn’t need more info lmao.
Lemme tell you sum…. I care about it because we spend a lot of time with them, and this is my video so I’m gonna talk about it
@@RocklinGraves My comment wasn’t meant to be rude. It was mostly jokey. OBVIOUSLY you can talk about it? Anyway, agree to disagree though on needing more background on them.
I’m not sure how else I was meant to take your comment, but I apologize if that wasn’t your intention
@@RocklinGraves no I get it, it’s via text and I was giving sass but jokingly, unfortunately it fell flat. So, I get your snark. My apologies as well! In other news, literally just came across your channel yesterday and I’m a big fan already!
You know, possibly the weakness of the characters is an indication that you can’t do everything in an under two hour movie. The actors, especially the young woman made me care about their fate. She, screaming for her life, was great acting. I wanted to help her but felt powerless to do so. She seemed to have a range that you don’t usually find among the MAIN characters of a slasher movie, much less peripheral characters.
Great content my friend 👌 you have a new sub.
It is nice to see someone who’s younger. Have a respect for this film.
I was watching some reactors that I really kind of enjoyed and then I made the mistake of clicking on Halloween
She called him, Mike Myers
After that, I don’t know what was said because I couldn’t click off fast enough
that neck shot scene will always get me hype my goodness. the fake crying & giving up mixed with the 80s style one liner than laying one of the most beautiful shots ever mixed with the sound and impact… fcking perfection
Honestly one of my favourite moments in the franchise
@@RocklinGraves as someone who has always been a fan tho not admittedly the biggest MM fan, this and the firefighter massacre are so lightyears ahead of anything id rank in my second spot. even after going back and rewatching my other favorite moments i can say confidently and without recency bias, there PERFECT scenes.
-btw. i came across your channel about 3 months ago and im a huge movie buff if that isnt clear and just as big a fan of movie breakdown pages like yours, i can honestly say youre amazing and criminally underrated. i do believe your time for a big blow up is coming. like my statement about those MM scenes: “i can say confidently and without recency bias” you& your page are PERFECT! i already would consider you to be in my top 5 all time favorite content creators and its not even debatable. your views, content quality, philosophies on deeper meanings, optimism, honesty & overall way of getting point across are TOP tier. kudos brother fr.
& not to get all depressing and super deep, but im currently in the process of restarting/rebuilding my life after losing pretty much everything i ever loved from my own personal mistakes and bad choices, and ive been trying to regain my love for the simpler things i enjoy. such as deep dives into movies.. i came across your stuff at the perfect time. if i had to guess were about the same age if anything im maybe a few years older
[*28* being closer gen makes relating easier] which drew me to your page since most of the people around my age tend to have immature or very click baity terrible take based content so i really appreciate your down to earth style. just know something as simple or seemingly unimportant in the grand scheme of things, as movie breakdowns can be the building block that helps a person keep going and pushing forward in life while also helping keeping their fire burning on enjoying what their passionate about. keep it up dawg. much love and praise your big moments coming🤟🏼
Going through your backlog now. Great stuff.👍
Thank you sm, I teared up watching this.
I honestly feel like they should’ve just released this movie and ended it there
I enjoyed this Halloween
i like your videos!!
Whooohoooo!!!! On to Kills next. Loving these videos.
The actors name was Josh
The sons name is John
I like your videos! Thanks
My favorite one
The off screen voice speaking to you…L O FUCKIN L. “It’s a podcast” 😂😂😂😂😂
who made the song at the end
I did. I don’t use it anymore but it was a little tune I had for my outros haha
@@RocklinGraves dope shit bro
Thanks dude
Great review! Halloween has to be my favourite horror movie franchise. Now I might have to rewatch them this weekend haha
Enjoy your marathon!
This wasn’t really a review. It was a synopsis and you snarky misunderstood a lot of director’s artistic choices.
Going into detail about the reason I like/dislike all the different elements of a movie isn’t a review? Well that makes sense!
I just discovered your channel. You are REALLY good at this. Thanks for the content!
