Halloween Kills (2021) | RGP Review | You've Come Home Michael

- Опубліковано 10 жов 2022
- Today we take a look at Halloween Kills, the direct sequel to the wildly successful Halloween reboot from 2018. Halloween Kills is a far more divisive and controversial entry than it's predecessor, but it's a film I've been extremely excited to talk about leading up to Halloween Ends. This is the longest RGP Review yet, and I hope you all enjoy it. Thanks for watching.

I absolutely loved how disgustingly playful Michael is again in this new trilogy. The way he posed big John and little John was just awesome. He'd definitely did it backwards on purpose though through some sick twisted sense of humour. And swapping them around opposite to the photo actually makes sense thematically with the role reversals within the movie. Cameron being Bonnie and Allison being Clyde. Marcus being a doctor when he was a nurse and Vanessa being a nurse when she was the doctor. And then the shorter John being big John and the taller John being little John.
He swapped them because Michael's inhuman mindset couldn't figure out that he had done it wrong.
“He’s tricking people and treating himself” couldn’t have said it any better
Trick ‘r treat
He's tricking people and treating himself, he can't do that the internet wouldn't approve.
I’m really happy that I found your channel. Your reviews are fun, entertaining, and informative.
My thoughts on this film are almost identical. I was disappointed at first with the tonal shift, but have grown to love the film once realizing what it is.
I like to add in a fan theory to keep Michael human though. Perhaps on the night of the escape, Sartain pumped up Michael with as many uppers as humanly possible to maximize his destruction, rage, and ability to withstand pain. Then after 2018, Michael is left with these profound wounds and infections, resulting in the battered and dying man that we find in Halloween Ends.
Thank you for your videos!
One of my favorite scenes is when Lindsey slaps Michael with the bag of bricks, and he chases her…..maaaaaaan the music key played in that moment was so good when he was chasing Lindsey.🎃
Loved, loved that Michael got back to the human tableaus. We all need a hobby
Exactly!
So glad I found this channel, I needed a new binge watch and these videos are perfect for just that! Amazing content!
Thanks Sarah!
I’m always glad to find someone that Mirrors my thoughts on movies that most people didn’t like! This franchise was awesome from top to bottom. I hope you blow up in the horror corner of UA-cam your videos are awesome
Ah thanks man. Glad you enjoyed the video
I was really frustrated when I saw the mob mentality moments, but after hearing you explain it from another perspective I've honestly changed my mind... It's very frustrating, but it's believable from the perspective of the characters in the universe. So thank you, your video was amazing! ❤
I absolutely love Halloween Kills, the firefighter scene is great. Great review as always 😊🐾💜👍👋
I’ve had a ball bingeing your reviews most of this rainy day. Your insights are very intelligent and call out aspects of some of my favorite films that I hadn’t ever thought of. Also appreciate your balanced approach - pointing out pros and cons in almost equal measure regardless of how much or little you like the film. Honestly, you should consider teaching film/media analysis or something. You come across very likable and would give an interesting lecture. Thanks for the content. Keep it up! 👍🏽
Ah wow thank you that’s so kind! Really appreciate it
pretty much sums up what I thought. What a find. Evan you are a breath of fresh air
Another great video thanks for doing these Halloween kills is my favorite. When Michael comes out of the Gun Locker in the basement in the fire I nearly started crying in the theater opening night with the music
You are totally right about the soundtracks for these movies. They are pretty good!
The best thing about this movie was Big John and Little John 😅
another absolutely fantastic review. You are fast becoming my favourite youtuber. Everything you do seems natural effortless and done without flying too high or sinking too low.
I have very conflicting feelings about Kills. On one hand, its an adrenaline ride, visually stunning, it has some very iconic scenes, and a few decent new characters-Lonnie, the 2 Johns, Lindsay. But it also feels incredibly cheesy, a bit over done on the gore, and worst of all the dialogue is cringe worthy.
Going in to more depth, the flashback is the best part of the film. the attention to detail is amazing, it really does feel like it fits perfectly after the original. The mask isn't perfect but its close enough, and though its clear its not Donald Pleasance, its a good attempt.
The firefighter scene, particularly with Michael emerging from the house, would surely be on a franchise highlights reel. Though it does suffer from the whole "John Wick" problem of why they all stood and waited for their deaths instead of all attacking at once(the mob beating does the same thing).
The whole "evil dies tonight" was a big mistake. Maybe in the heat of the moment, with paranoia and hysteria growing, its not totally unbelievable, but it was rammed down our throats a bit too much. I think most of us could get the message without being repeatedly clubbed over the head with it.
The Myers/Tivoli mix up I still have issue with. Had this been a random location on the other side of the country it would feel more plausible. But the legend of Michael would have been all around Haddonfield for the past 40 years. Every Halloween stories would be told, passed down from one generation to the next. I think there would have been at least enough common knowledge within the town for people to know Michael wasn't 5ft tall. Think about it, if Danny de Vito visited your town, you aren't mistaking him for Christopher Lloyd.
And I know this kind of stuff would stick with local residents. Ian Huntley killed 2 children 130 miles away from where I lived, but as he has briefly lived in my town a couple of years earlier, it became a big deal locally. He is by no means the most famous murderer in England, but I would know if a 5ft man in a mask came to terrorise my town, that it wasn't him.
While the mob takedown was superbly edited and had real impact, I do feel it leaned towards Michael being supernatural, especially when added to the damage he took from Alisson and Karen at the Myers house. I'm not really a fan of that kind of thing. A more grounded human Myers always sits better with me. Plus this then dug a hole that Ends had problems with. If he hadn't been built up to be near indestructible here, then some of the issues with Ends would have gone away.
Kills works best if you remove your brain and just treat it as a amusement park ride. Enjoy the thrill, get excited, a little scared. Then, when its over, realise it wasn't all you hoped it would be and there are better versions of it done before. I think it also depends on your motives for being a "fan" If you love Michael and see him as some anti hero or God like figure, you will love this. He gets masses of screen time and carves up Haddonfield in a way we've never been treated to before. Where as if you love suspense, the less is more approach, and a good, well acted plot, then this will, after the initial thrill subsides, seem pretty vacuous, silly and going in to territory best left alone, like the curse of Thorn. I had fun with it, and can happily sit through it, so it does its job in that sense
I have no idea how your reviews showed up on my timeline but I’m very happy they did.
I want to thank you for this amazing video and breakdown of “Halloween Kills” I like you did a complete 180 of this film. This was just amazingly put together. Fantastic is too small a word. I hope you get to feeling better and you just earned a new subscriber
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it
The flashback is amazing 😊🐾💜👍
yoúre too funny!! 😂 love the videos, bud!!
I agree this movie was so freaking awesome. I thought Dylan's fear when Michael came out toward him was so realistic.
HKills rules so hard. The ultimate Michael movie.
By the way these are the three best videos I've seen on the new Halloween Trilogy excellent stuff
It's called halloween kills and i enjoyed the kills and the atmosphere. I usually just skip the hospital scenes 😂 i love these videos though
Yeah, some people totally miss the point of the story and dont realize its a "Michael vs the town" movie
"It doesn't feel like a result of incompetent writing, but more so an intentional shift in style to allow for grandiose halloween film."
I feel the EXACT same way.
I’ve seen Halloween kills literally prob. 30+ times and have just had it playing in background. Fun movie. Aside from hospital scenes, it’s a good movie. The flashback scene was so dope.
I think what I really didn’t like about this movie was that the kills seem exceedingly mean-spirited compared to the other kills in the franchise; I know Michael is pissed beyond belief, but that “sick playfulness” comes off as the movie aiming for more aggressive shock value to make sure you know Michael is amped up to 11. It just felt like there was an excessive amount of prolonged suffering throughout the vast majority of these deaths that I personally feel didn’t need to be there; yeah, we know these people are going to suffer, but many of them felt like they were drawing inspiration from the “torture porn” sub-genre.
I understand /why/ they did it but it stands out so aggressively compared to the other two films.
I didn’t hate this movie by any means, but it definitely felt like the weakest of the three. I really appreciate the amazingly systematic breakdowns you’ve done for each one and it’s really given me a fresh look on the trilogy.
Watching the behind the scenes of James Jude Courtney working on the kill scene with the firefighters is as gratifying as the scene itself.
I loved the aging Michael Myers’ Old Man Strength. The aging of all the characters makes this seem more honest than most sequels
Michael was definitely the goat in this movie.
Although his mask looks really good in this movie and ends. I thought the music was a lot better than Halloween ends, though.
Great review
When I went to see one of the Halloween movies, I was told by my cousin to be careful and not to sit next to anyone named, Michael, Jason, and Freddy. I said that they need to be careful sitting next to me, because my name's Carrie.
Right there with you! Although I haven't loved all of the choices these new movies have made. I am firmly planted on the Hype train!
Thanks for watching! Here’s to hoping Ends is satisfying
If James Jude Courtney doesn't play Michael in any future movies, I'd like Armstrong to do it. Loved how he played Michael in the flashback. He put off the intimidating vibe like JJC did.
Same! He was so good
I really disliked these movies when they came out, and i still do, but i respect your views on it. Definitely gave me new reasons to appreciate them.
You said everything I love about Halloween Kills perfectly!
Glad you could resonate with it!
watching this video after seeing halloween ends makes me remember my disappointment i had for the movie since i really was excited for ends too but was let down. anyway, great video and i really enjoy watching this channel
Love how the Myers house looked in this one you can actually see it its all lit up by the moon vs original its so dark everything is black only can see some stuff plus don't go in as many rooms lol they fixed it up good later but I still like how it looks abandoned I'd like to live in it either way lol
i loved all three. something about the whole series starting at 1 that i love except for maybe 3. ty for this video
Thanks for watching!
Loved this!👏
One day to go…
Hell yeah my favorites timeline
Some people complain because they’re like why did Michael let himself get taken?
He’s supposed to be the bogeyman
Not John Wick
What else was he supposed to do with six cops with guns drawn?
they apparently never paid attention to the original film.
Michael isnt some unstoppable juggernaut in this timeline.
This is the same Michael who struggled against Laurie the whole time
and was almost killed by her and Loomis
@@millyoneyedeaz1350The point is that Michael from the old movies wouldn't even fall into such a primitive police trap. Are you telling me that he's actually turning himself in to the cops just to spend the next 40 years locked up? It doesn't make any sense, it's only done because of Jamie Lee Curtis and bringing this new timeline in line with modernity. And in this same timeline, they want to tell us that he scatters dozens of firefighters like John Wick (which he never did), defeats crowds of armed men, and then goes into a cordoned-off house to stab Karen, and leaves. Bruh
Halloween Kills is awesome imo
I really feel like Kills and Ends could have been one movie, but being contracted for a trilogy made the two stretched out and was detrimental to them. I didn’t like Kills or Ends, but I do enjoy listening to your thoughts on them.
Love everything I see in this every time I see it
Really good work again mate, I think there are similarities between Halloween and Metallica, the first 4 Metallica albums are untouchable like John carpenters original, but it almost trendy to dislike modern Metallica as it is the new timeline of Halloween. I think Gordon Green has done an astonishing job on this time line and if it was a different slasher franchise it would be applauded, similar scenario with the last 3 modern Metallica albums, their both cursed by how sublime their original body’s of work are.
O love Michael arts and crafts love how he kills them the diarima of the dude on the table with multiple knives in his back so cool I can see Annie in hereditary making little diaromas of that and other scenes in this that'd be cool
I just discovered your channel and enjoy your content very much 😊
Thank you!
@@RocklinGraves 👍 🙂
I honestly enjoyed this movie more than the 2018 version simply because of how hilarious it was. A friend and I went to see it in theaters and couldn't stop giggling and choking back laughter at so many moments. I don't know if the humor was unintentional or not but all of the ham-fisted social commentary, the dumb decisions, the mob scene in general, the never-ending chorus of Evil Dies Tonight, everything just accumulated into a riot for us. Another friend then watched it and hated it for all the reasons we loved it.
You giggling at it shows that u didn’t get it
Someone should edit together the original Halloween and the flashback from Kills and then edit together 2018-End into one seamless movie and then attach it to the re-edited original creating "Halloween: The Michael Myers Supercut".
Did they get the same actor to play Tommy in this movie that played in the original movie?
The mob thing was done in Halloween four to
Is that music from the Friday the 13th NES game?
Michael has no motivation in this timeline, as in the original.
The scene with Lonnie was cut because it doesnt fit the pacing and part of the story.
Michael is fleeing at this point from Loomis and heading home,
that doesnt fit with him suddenly stalking Lonnie.
The scene has no purpose outside of nostalgia.
Also, Lonnie and Tommy are MAIN characters.
They represent the theme of this part of the story.
Pacing is supposed to reflect the tone of the plot, this notion its off, makes no sense.
Tommy is telling a ghost story to the crowd, its not a monologue
and it serves many functions as a scene, its not exposition.
Sherrif Barker is the new brackett ad considering the history in Haddonfield,
he (like the majority of residents, which is the story's point, stemming from 2018)
underestimates Michael.
My issue is: this is the same night, it doesnt matter if its two or 5 movies,
his arc isnt supposed to resolve in a matter of hours.
The movie is clearly saying these people dont know what to do.
I think you might need to rewatch the entire trilogy again, without projecting onto it.
you;re missig alot of connections
I have watched this trilogy like six times through lmao. I think we just came away from it with different conclusions my dude
i loved this movie so much
There’s a lot to love. Hopefully Ends brings a lot to enjoy
Yeah I love how Michael trick r treats lol
Why did he come back on overdrive 😂
He'll Yeah I wanted flashback in the flashback I wanted to see kid Michael looking out window in script they mentioned him at school and how people thought of him I wanted to see all that way better than rob zombie though that was pretty funny lol yeah return of Dr Loomis lol they already showed pictures of people that look like loomis why not bring him back lol awesome pumpkin credits
He'll Yeah more Alison in ends lol
So many decisive movies last Jedi this one Halloween ends exorcism believer lol oh god I hate it its not like original yeah it is lol if not better but like with new strangers oh god I hate it its exactly the same as original lol this one is awesome right there with original if not better lol the flashback the kills the music the mask James is awesome as Michael Myers house back more Alison he'll Yeah awesome Super awesome lol
Did he get through this whole thing without mentioning "Evil dies tonight" !????? Did he forget that mess of a chant?? 😂
Pretty sure I addressed it if I remember correctly. This was a while ago lol
@RocklinGraves I appreciate the time you took to bring us reviews on the 3 movies. I watch reviews on these movies all the time. Yours stands up against anything out there.
Didn't Alison's boyfriend dumped her phone into some kind of bowl at the Halloween Party?
Bowl of cheese yes
That one scene of him taking out the firefighters is just awesome. Best scene in all 3 of these p.o.s. movies.
I know it's been several months but...
You misspelled "spoiler"
Nahhhhh you’re misunderstanding. “Spolier” makes me sound sophisticated….. anyway yeah this was like a year and half ago that graphic’s been fixed lol
@@RocklinGraves LOL! It's all good, just a playful nitpick. Just discovered your channel and my gf and I are loving going through your catalogue. You do a good job.
Haha cheers man I really appreciate it! Glad you guys are enjoying the videos
I used to hate this movie.
Big Mouth is hilarious though 😂😂
...
I disagree Tyler, Mane was the best he was the scariest
DUDE! THANK YOU. You fucking get it.
Haha glad you can relate with my feelings on this one
People need to get over nitpicking these movies. They’re great movies-they’re slasher movies, what kind of Godfather level continuity and detail do you expect, forreal? Get over it. If the plots literally made no sense like obi wan or the rise of skywalker, that would be one thing, but y’all are upset over petty shit
I’m not sure if you’re referring to my video or how other people talk about it, but if you’re taking issue with the video you do realize that this is my favourite Halloween sequel right? I love this movie
Dude was the " token black "
No Tyler mane is thee best Michael Myers period. More violent more anger and rage and definitely more evil
Tyler Mane was a brute. There’s nothing wrong with that, but that’s not Michael Myers. James Jude Courtney captured the cold and calculated but also playful side of the character in every facet. His movement was absolutely spot on in a way that no one else came close to. No hate to Tyler Mane I just find that to be a much less interesting version of Michael
@@RocklinGraves I have never lost a debate with so much respect before 🤣 I have 0 argument for that you are 100% correct. I also came to realize I was going with a recreation of the original.
