This tune is from the Vænir album and is mostly in the key of B-Minor (E-Minor position on a guitar in standard tuning) with a couple key modulations throughout.
As is typical for Monolord, the Four Intervals of Doom are used extensively, and the riffs are packed with blends of the natural minor, blues, phyrgian, and phrygian dominant scales.

Just another reason why Steve and DID is amazing. The community, compassion and respect is what it’s all about. 🤘🏼♠️💜
I know you guys are plugging your own pedals, but for those looking for this type of tone, gotta give a shoutout to Pepers' Humongous Fuzz. It has both FZ-2 and HM-2 circuits in one housing. Has the in-between 1.5 setting as a selectable option. Plus it has a clean blend knob, so it's bass-friendly and dirt-stacking-friendly. Hard AF to find though. So if you guys want to make one yourselves with these specs (hint, hint), you'd probably sell quite a few.
Came here to say exactly that. It's a fantastic pedal, and the boost mode being on a footswitch is a gamechanger.
I thought the Humongous was only an FZ-2 clone? How do you dial in the HM-2?
@@DavidSmith-mp6om The "Extra" knob is the HM-2 circuit. Don't need more than that as everything else would be dimed on the circuit. It's pretty cool.
@@illegal_space_alien wow! I bought a Magic Witchfinder because I liked the FZ-2 sound more. But i was between that and a humongous. I may need to go get one to check it out.
Behringer, same circuits $30 each.
What a tooone 🔥
I've never been a musician but this honestly makes me want to try it out. I have a couple old guitars laying around so I might just start practicing.
Give it a shot!!!
Definitely!
Do it
Did you start practicing yet? Hope all is well.
This is absolutely quite the naughtiest.
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Didn't know Saruman played. Cool!
Christopher Lee actually had a metal band and composed an entire concept album about Charlemagne (of whom I believe he claimed to be related to, distantly).
It definitely rips.
perfect tone for a body void lesson
Such a killer band!!
stop giving away my secrets. i've been running these two together for years now
Vicious tone.
I was born in Birmingham UK and as someone who appreciates sabbath (obviously!!) this sounds amazing, you have a new fan. Keep it heavy brother
Good Lord, that sounds GLORIOUS!!
Great lesson! I really appreciate how you break down songs and add the theory!
Killer vid, Steve! Cheers!
Thanks Zach!
Heavy AF 🤘
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Such a thicc, sick tone🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Bobby! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Hey steve i appreciate the lessons and the other content you put out. The shorts of you showing off your gear and giving some history behind it is an aweaome idea. Cheers🍻
Always appreciate your support man! Have been trying to figure out what to do with the short form videos and it seems like I may have found something that people like. Will keep doing ‘em!
Love that blend of pedals. Sounds just killer.
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
@@DoesItDoom Your 'you don't deserve any volume knob' stuff is absurd, like we R supposed 2 buy another pedal just 2 have that knob = LOL!! U should get these done in China or something with tone controls & (gasp) volume controls 2 =)
oliverio vuelve por favor tus amigos te extrañamos
Started doing similar with a sf300 into the effects channel of my peavey standard, then a wah, rat (joyo splinter) and TC eyemaster into the clean channel. Having the wah only on the one channel makes for some crazy blends
How about a shoutout of the Agartha, acuapulco gold and burning sunn?
Nice work as always
This tone…. Absolutely gnarlygasm!
🙏🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Weedpecker - Fat Karma would be an awesome one to learn!
Just throwing it out there :D Definitely doable to figure it out!
Everything from weedpecker basically
Fooking awesome!
🤘🏻🤘🏻
Awesome gnarly tone. Definitely need to try parallel blending my super fuzz with other tones like this. Great idea.
Sick! Has some elements of the song "Black Sabbath" in it definitely.🤘🎸
I've found some really bad ass music that's to this channel thanks!
Glad to hear that!
I own a Sabbathi but no Doomsaw atm.. So Im headed downstairs to stack my SF300 & HM300 🤟 Thanks for the lesson dude.
The key here is to blend them in parallel! I’m using the Signal Blender from Old Blood Noise Endeavors to achieve the blend in this video.
@@DoesItDoom 👌
Steve, you are amazing. That MASSIVE tone is incredible. Thank you for the video.
Thanks Michael! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Sick lesson as always! Quality grows every time! Thanks! 💣
Thanks Ed!
I bet you're an awesome neighbor!
I can imagine it now
"Hey honey! What's that noise?
Hun... thats just the Wizard next door."
Seriously though. Love the videos and thank you bro
Beautiful and very ambient. Kidding! I dig this tone. All heavy and nothing weak! Damn! If I had this sound, I’d be happy. I only have a Marshall JVM205H but I think it’ll get close but I like the low end.
I really should have included the delay soaked cleanish bridge section in the lesson. Haha.
@@DoesItDoom Nah…. ☠️
I think honestly what you did was perfect!
Oh yesss🤘🤘 great work man! Thanks for that
Sure thing! Glad you liked it!
Nice nasty tone. I like it, but I can get an identical tone just using a SG special into Sunn T Acapulco gold clone, going into Biyang Metal End distortion, then into a $30 Behringer SF300 Superfuzz into Peavey amp.Same crushing sound for under $150 worth of pedals! My preferred tone is a little more like Wizard and Monolord fuzziness with the more bass heavy smoothness of Goatsnake, probably because of the Sunn T pre amp clone I'm using first in the chain. One thing about those Sunn Model T pedals is no matter what you can always hear if one is in the chain. Also this setup is way more versatile than any one knob fuzzes as far as nailing many different tones cause the Metal End has mid, bass, and treble controls, a built-in amp simulator, as well as a mid freq knob adjuster that's the secret to shape your mids any way you want them which really gives you an edge when you can adjust EQ pre Fuzz and post Fuzz. When I'm using my Big Muffs this really helps bring an overly scooped Big Muff etc to life and makes em growl. Anyway its amazing what EQ can do before and after distortion.
Great lesson Steve!!! Love Monolord, their most recent album is very heavy, very cool!!! Sorry to hear that they had to scratch their tour, hope everything works out for them. Anyway, great stuff brother!!!🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Yooo I got my slime green Doom Saw yesterday, and it's currently hooked up going into my Behringer super fuzz with the fuzz set on its boost mode.
I'm really digging the Doom Saw!
Hell yeah!! Glad you’re digging it Joe. I need to give that a try!!
I do the same exact thing and it totally sounds incredible!
LOL if U want a 'doom saw' tone Y not get the HM300 or whatever? Behringer makes a copy of the Metal zone & sounds better than the Boss version, as do a lot of their things. I guess it's the 'SMD' stuff being more transparent.
just waiting on the September drop. haha
This is badass
Jeez!!!Sounds just amazingly Huge🤘😎👍
This is giving me ideas to mix my Fuzzlord HM-6 and Occvlt Pedals Fuzzvenger (hyperfuzz based circuit with a decent octave down).
Give it a shot!
Killer man. That guitar is a beauty too.
Thanks man. Amazing guitar for sure.
The editing hit hard! 😂👌 I was not ready
Did you like the editing style here or no?
@@DoesItDoom Oh yes! 🔥♥️
@@DoesItDoom it’s super cool in this vid!
*The guitar you’re using is the Pete Adams? The thing sounds so brutal 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 I’m pretty sure a lot of that comes from the amplifier and pedals. Awesome tone and you never disappoint!*
Thanks John!
Steve in my opinion your best lesson and tone ever - blew my fuckin' head off. The effort you go to is just insanely dedicated and brilliant
Much appreciated, Mike! I was really happy with the tone on this one for sure. 🙏🏻🤘🏻
hey! can you make more Boris stuff? i just fell in love guitarists Wata's tone, echo manupulation, mindblowing solos.
Would look cooler with black pickup rings
Pick it harder man
Unleash ur strength
Damn jealous of that guitar. What a beautiful instrument. Somehow classic and brutal all at once. Feels like you married my high school crush.
Sounds great, too. Gnarly. Looking forward to seeing it in other videos.
Retro because of the 'coffee table' woods & ornamentation & binding, & 'brutal' because pointy horns = very simple. Reminds me of some Washburn models & another brand that does SG/Viper variants I 4get. Best 2 avoid stuff with pointy bits just in case U fall or something = U never know! =D
Epic Steve!!!
Thanks brother! 🙏🏻🤘🏻
Thick and vicious🤘🏼🍻🤘🏼
Wow
I'd love to see you do a lesson on an underrated Iommi masterpiece, "Patterns" from his Iommi album! It has Serj Tankian from System of a Down on it, and it's doom as twenty hells!
Hi Steve, just subscribed to your channel n was wondering have you ever covered any Cathedral? Gaz is one of my favourite guitar players in Doom still to be honest cheers
🤘🤘🤘🤘
🧙🏻♂️
Napalm death used an HM 2 into a Superfuzz copy for the bass on the A side of Scum, or so I've heard. Not doom but whatever.
So jealous of your FA Customs collection
Amazing guitars.
It's a lot like the old Yamaha 'artist' series or something (not sure of the name). It's an 'old hippie pot mop' looking thing, so goes with his 'style' but if U R a modely sleek guy like me it looks a bit silly, like in a distractingly 'grandpa's guitar' sort of way LOL
Hi there, do you think Doomsaw would be good for Electric Wizard? I'm thinking of getting one. You only have one short reel about it. Cheers!
🤘🏿👻💀🖤🖤👻💀🖤🖤👻💀🖤🖤👻💀🖤🖤👻💀🤘🏿 Mega hej hell bro zajebiste kapitalne dzięki pod każdym względem super
Megalith....
Steve, when you say the pedals are in parallel do you mean your original guitar signal is split and going into each pedal simultaneously? Or are you going into one pedal then that pedal feeds into the other? I'm confused.
Signal is split and going into each pedal simultaneously using an Old Blood Noise Endeavors Signal Blender: www.oldbloodnoise.com/pedals/signal-blender
@@DoesItDoom How are you feeding the signal back into the amp?
@@clugokillscluco checkout the Signal Blender pedal. It’s pretty simple.
@@DoesItDoom Will do.
What did you use to get the effect @ 01:16?
That’s an Ibanez Weeping Demon Wah
@@DoesItDoom, thank you! :)
